Hello everyone, hope you are doing fine. I got back to 3D art and specifically Splinterlands art after a long time... I got inspired by Mr. Singh's work here : https://twitter.com/amritpaldesign.
The above image is my official entry for Splinterlands Art Contest this week too. As I said, my inspiration was Mr. Singh's wonderful work which I have linked above. I wanted to make some art of one of my favourite characters Ancient Lich and I decided to do it in this style.
I first choose the reference image from the lore page :
I concentrated on the face and in fact I went for the angry scowling look in my model too but the smiling cuter Lich looked better, as pointed out by my wife!
Onto the process then:
I choose an icosphere as a primitive and scaled it in different dimensions to suit my needs for the head.
I then choose a torus(the one you use to make a donut 🍩) to model the crown and extruded some faces vertically, and some not so vertically ;), to complete the crown. This was probably the easiest part.
I duplicated some faces in the front and moved it a little front and give it a mettalic look. Then added another icosphere, duplicated that and moved it a little front again to complete the crown.
I had to think of the hair and eyebrows and beard then. I decided to use bezier curves for all but the beard somehow didn't look alright with the curves.
The hair and eyebrows are still Bezier curves; I haven’t converted them into meshes.
They eyes and nose are some more modified icospheres.
The mouth is another Bezier Curve. The torso and some design similar to the original completed the picture.
I decided to add the staff at the last minute.
Here's a render without the staff:
Hope you liked the different take on Ancient Lich. Thanks for reading and viewing, see you in the next one!
