Armor is the main attribute for defending against attacks from Ranges and Meeles. What makes it so powerful is the fact that it doesn't matter how much attack the attacker has, if the monster being attacked only has 1 point of armor, it will defend it from any of these two types of attack, with the sole exception of those with the Piercing ability.
This means that many matches are won with just the combination of a monster with armor, plus another with Repair, even if the life is low.
This is not possible in the Unprotected battle ruleset, where all monsters on the field lose their armor. In this case, both Ranges and Meeles have a big advantage over Magicians, as they are usually faster and have the advantage of attacking first.

To defend against this, it is essential to use the skill Shield, which reduces the damage caused by them by 50%.

The use of Flying, Dodge and Blind are also good options, as they increase the chances of dodging attacks.

In the battle I faced, the mana cost was very low, just 12 points. So I needed to make good use of cards, especially those with low mana.
As a summoner, I chose Selenia Sky. It's one of my favorites, because its mana cost is only 3 points, and its special effect is to increase the attack of all Ranges on the field by 1 point.
In front, I put Pelacor Conjurer. He's one of the best value for money, as he only costs 2 mana points and has a high amount of life, as well as the aforementioned Flying ability, and also reflects magic damage.
Right behind it, I put Kra'ar Xoc, which not only costs 1 mana, but also has the ability Scavenger, gaining 1 life point for each monster killed on the field.
Finally came the attackers. The Celestial Harpy, which attacks the monster with the lowest life on the field, the Naga Assassin, which has high speed and can damage monsters that miss attacks on it, and at the top the Vruz, positioned to wait for Sneaks from the opponent's side, activating its Martyr and then increasing the Naga's attributes.
It wasn't possible to use neutral-type monsters, as the Taking Sides ruleset was in place, and healing abilities didn't work, thanks to Healed Out.

My opponent had a similar idea to mine, putting monsters that have no attack at the front, but are good to hold, since they have high life, with the damage being in the last positions of the back line. But look at the difference between them. My pelacor had more life, could withstand an attack without taking damage and had the Flying ability.
Choosing the right element meant that I had better options of monsters available for this battle, not only for defense, but also for attack. The fact that I fielded a monster with Sneak and another with Opportunity, meant that these tankers were ignored, leaving them last, focusing on the attackers first.
In the first round, my team eliminated an opposing monster and left another badly wounded, while mine had lost very little life. My Vruz attacked the enemy's Naga Assassin, causing my Celestial Harpy to focus her attacks on it. Her ability that makes her not miss attacks made the Naga useless for holding off attacks from the Meeles.
The opponent's Naga is eliminated in the second round, leaving only one attacker for him.
So in the sixth round, I win the match.

A armadura é o principal atributo para se defender dos ataques de Ranges e Meeles. O que faz o tornar tão poderoso, é o fato de que não importa o quanto de ataque o atacante possua, se o monstro atacado possuir 1 ponto de armadura apenas, ela irá defendê-lo de qualquer um desses dois tipos de ataque, com a única exceção dos que possuem a habilidade Piercing.
Isso faz com que muitas partidas sejam vencidas apenas com a combinação de um monstro com armadura, mais outro com Repair, mesmo que a vida seja baixa.
Isso não é possível na regra de batalha Unprotected, onde todos os monstros em campo perdem suas armaduras. Nesse caso, ambos Ranges e Meeles tem uma grande vantagem sobre os Mágicos, já que costumam ser mais rápidos, tendo a vantagem de atacar primeiro.

Para se defender disso, é essencial o uso da habilidade Shield, que diminui em 50% o dano causado por eles.

O uso do Flying, Dodge e Blind, também são boas opções, pois aumentam as chances de se esquivar de ataques.

Na batalha em que enfrentei, o custo de mana era baixíssimo, apenas 12 pontos. Então, eu precisava fazer um bom uso de cartas, especialmente as de baixa mana.
Como invocador, escolhi a Selenia Sky. Ela é uma das minhas favoritas, pois o custo de mana é de apenas 3 pontos, e seu efeito especial é aumentar em 1 ponto o ataque de todos os Ranges em campo.
Na frente, coloquei o Pelacor Conjurer. Ele é uma das melhores custo benefício, pois custa apenas 2 pontos de mana, e possui uma quantidade de vida alta, além da habilidade citada anteriormente Flying, e de quebra reflete danos mágicos.
Logo atrás dele, coloquei o Kra'ar Xoc, que além de custar apenas 1 de mana, possui a habilidade Scavenger, ganhando 1 ponto de vida a cada monstro morto em campo.
Por fim, vieram os danos. A Celestial Harpy, que ataca o monstro com menor vida em campo, a Naga Assassin, que possui alta velocidade e pode causar dano aos monstros que erram ataques sobre ela, e na ponta o Vruz, posicionado de forma a esperar Sneaks do lado adversário, fazendo ativar seu Martyr e então aumentar os atributos da Naga.
Não era possível utilizar monstros tipo neutro, pois a regra Taking Sides estava presente, além de habilidades de cura não funcionarem, graças ao Healed Out.

Meu oponente teve uma ideia semelhante a minha, colocando monstros que não possuem ataque na frente, mas que são bons para segurar, já que possuem vida alta, com os danos ficando nas últimas posições da linha de trás. Porém, veja a diferença entre eles. Meu pelacor possuía mais vida, além de suportar um ataque sem levar danos, além de possuir a habilidade Flying.
A escolha do elemento correto fez com que eu tivesse melhores opções de monstros a disposição para essa batalha, não só para defesa, mas como para o ataque. O fato de eu ter campo um monstro com Sneak e outro com Opportunity, faria com que esses tankers fossem ignorados, deixando-os por último, focando nos atacantes em primeiro lugar.
Na primeira rodada, meu time eliminou um monstro adversário, e deixou outro bastante ferido, enquanto o meu, pouca vida havia perdido. Meu Vruz atacou a Naga Assassin do inimigo, fazendo com que a minha Celestial Harpy focasse seus ataques nela. Sua habilidade que faz com que ela não erre ataques, fez com que a Naga se tornasse inútil para segurar ataques dos Meeles.
A Naga do adversário é eliminada na segunda rodada, restando apenas um atacante para ele.
Então na sexta rodada, eu venço a partida.
