Any game requires certain skills and tools in regards to progress and conquering the ranks. The same stands for Splinterlands where the player needs to understand the game mechanism and have powerful cards to achieve success on regular basis, but it requires patience and investment in the game to make this journey a profitable one.
When I started playing this gaming it took me some time to make myself invest in the game starting with buying the Spell Book. I went through a lot of YouTube videos to understand the game's potential for earning since it is known as a play-to-earn style game, but there's more to it on the earning side of the game.
I'll discuss here Splinter Shards (SPS) token in general and its benefits to having a profitable game portfolio. Because, some new players get confused with gameplay and DAO, so here it put some potential know-how about Splinterlands DAO system and how it helps a player get more out of the game even if the player plays the game or not, the investments in SPS staking will keep making profits for them.
SPS, AIRDROPS, AND, SPS STAKING
What is SPS?
Splinterlands team launched Splintershards (SPS) as an official governance token to formalize the DAO in July 2021. The purpose of inducting SPS into the game is a step toward a decentralized structure of the game, where SPS stack holders will participate in the decision-making process for the improvement of the game. Players holding staked SPS will be able to create new proposals and vote to decide the course of Splinterlands' future.
SPS Airdrops:
With the launch of its governance token, the mechanism of token distribution was clarified in SPS Whitepaper. Around 13.33% of a maximum supply of SPS will be airdropped to the players meeting certain eligibility criteria as set out in SPS Whitepaper, the airdrop will occur on daily basis and run for 365 days. It is to be noted that SPS's maximum supply will not be more than 3,000,000,000 tokens, and around 400,000,000 tokens will be distributed among qualified players for 12 months.

SPS Token Distribution Table
Airdrop Criterion: The airdrop criterion is based on the point system, each game asset has given some points against its value, when someone owns any qualified asset in the game or connected wallets, it will provide points for SPS airdrop, based on those points the player will receive daily SPS.
For example, if a player owns a common card, which has a collection power (CP) of 5, the player will get 5 airdrop points, and similarly, 1 DEC equals 1 point.
If you look at the below image, you'll see each asset has been given certain airdrop points. If you own any of the assets shown in the image, you can find complete airdrop points detail in the game.
SPS Staking
After the launch of SPS as a governance token, Splinterlands was updated with In-Game Governance to provide players a platform for staking SPS tokens, generating profits, and involving in the voting mechanism. The latter will be implemented in the future according to the SPS whitepaper, currently, it is in the planning phase.
The voting power will be based on the amount of staked SPS, suppose if a player holds 1 SPS in staking, it will have 1 vote, that means more staked SPS a player holds more voting power he or she will have.
Staking Rewards:
Players who lock up their SPS in staking will receive SPS and Vouchers as staking rewards based on a variable annual percentage rate (APR), which keeps varying depending on various factors.
Splinterlands' vouchers are a special kind of reward, these are tradable assets and can be sold or bought in secondary markets. Vouchers add value to the purchase of event items in the form of discounts and bonuses, and in some cases, vouchers also become a requirement for purchasing event items.
Current Airdrop Points vs. SPS Airdropped
According to my last airdrop claim, I had 14,153 points, which earned me around 0.906 SPS, take a look at the images shown below.

Here you see that a major portion of airdrop points comes from DEC because DEC is the cheapest game asset to increase the points.

The image above shows the amount of SPS ready to be claimed. It might require 1000 to 1500 additional airdrop points to receive 1 SPS daily.
Current Staking Rewards
As already discussed that SPS staking rewards vary depending on the estimated APR, my current earning rewards are shown below, the snapshot was taken after 24 hours.

The current voucher drop rate is 20,000/day, and any player who has staked SPS will receive the vouchers.
Conclusive Remarks
Players who don't want to spend a lot of time playing the game can earn through SPS airdrops and staking.
SPS airdrop is a limited-time opportunity to earn free SPS, airdrop is about to end after 40 days, so there is still 40-day time to get some free SPS by adding airdrop points, and the simplest way to get daily airdrops is to buy DEC using Hive or HBD.
Having staked SPS in the game has certain benefits, currently, players can enjoy SPS+Vouchers as rewards. There will be more features available in the future, which may enable players to shape Splinterlands ecosystem the way they like to be based on the proposals and voting.
