Splinterlands is a Play-to-Earn game and this game requires different types of assets and items to enjoy the benefits and rewards either as a player or an investor.
These assets and items are all valuables and possess a market value in the fiat currency of the US Dollar or any other denomination. Having these assets in Splinterlands is an essential part of playing the game and starting to earn regular compensations offered by Splinterlands.
In the last edition of Splinterlands Basics, we learned about Game currencies used in Splinterlands known as "Tokens". and now we are about to learn about the game's Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and items on the blockchain.
NFT is basically a tokenized form of any digital content (image, video, music, document, etc.) that can be used in various ways, once tokenized each digital asset gets a signed contract on the blockchain with a unique identity code.
NFTs in Splinterlands are found in different types, these NFTs can be cards, packs, different items, and land plots. Let's learn about these NFTs and different items that reside on the blockchain.
CARDS
Cards are the essential NFTs to play Splinterlands game and earn rewards, without owning these NFTs you may play the game with available starter cards but you cannot earn any rewards, because you should have real NFT cards to start earning in Splinterlands.
Cards section can be accessed through 'ITEMS' menu after logging in to https://splinterlands.com account as shown in the image below. You will find 'Playable' cards as default, but you can use the filters to see other collections of cards.

A typical NFT card looks like the image shown here, which may contain some numerical values and abilities. Numerical values describe the card's mana consumption, attack, armor, speed, and health points, while abilities describe special effects a monster or a summoner will apply during a battle session.

I have written an exclusive guide to understand card types and how to read them, you may visit the original tutorial post and learn more about cards there.
Card ID: Each NFT card has a different ID code on the blockchain, you can view that code by clicking on a card in CARDS section.

How to Obtain Cards: The primary source of obtaining new Cards is Booster Packs purchased from Splinterlands.com "SHOP", but cards can also be purchased from Splinterlands Market or any secondary card/rental market such as https://monstermarket.io or https://peakmonsters.com.
You may also rent cards, your friends may delegate cards to you, or you should participate in contests on Hive frontends and win lots of cards for free.
Cards Utility: You may utilize your Splinterlands cards in the following ways:
- Use the cards to play the game i.e. battles and brawls
- Grow your Collection Power (CP) by accumulating cards to reach higher leagues
- Sell cards for profits or trade them to get other tokens
- Rent out your cards to earn passive rental income
- Burn unwanted cards to receive DEC tokens
LAND NFT TOKENS
Land is a tokenized portion of a plot that digitally exists on the map of Praetoria.

Land tokens can be obtained in the form of 1) Plots, 2) Tracts, and 3) Regions. A plot is a single portion of land, a tract is a combination of 100 Plots sharing a common border, and a Region is comprised of 1,000 Plots sharing a common border.
How to Obtain Lands: All 3 types of digital assets can be purchased on decentralized exchanges such as https://hive-engine.com/ or https://tribaldex.com/.
Utility: Currently having a piece of land can reward you with SPS tokens regularly, but when the Land section will be fully developed, players can harvest different valuable resources that will help them create different types of Spells and Items.
OTHER ITMES AND NFTS

Summoner's Spellbook: It is a one-time purchase token to upgrade a Splinterlands account for earning rewards from ranked battles and brawls. Without Summoner's Spellbook, you cannot earn rewards from ranked battles.
Buying this item rewards you with the following perks as shown in the image below.

If you want to grow your portfolio in the game, this item gives you superpowers for a lifetime, and enjoy the game features to the fullest.
