Hello there, this is my entry to the latest "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or learn more about the challenge, click here. This week we have to formulate a strategy with the Rise of the Commons ruleset.

RULESET: Rise of the Commons
With the Rise of the Commons ruleset in action, only Common and Rare units can be used in the battle. This makes it a bit challenging and gets most of the players out of their comfort zones as Epics and Legendries are a big part of the game.

The 'Rise of the Commons' ruleset is an interesting one as it forces you to come up with strategies by only using commons and rares in your lineup. Some players, who are more dependent on epics and legendries, find this ruleset difficult to handle. But players should not be too focused a specific types of units as those will not allow them to progress and win more games in the long run. Understanding the fundamentals of the games and applying them to any situation is very important.
Let's see how this ruleset affects my lineup and how I strategies for the following battle.

My Lineup
This is my lineup for the battle
This was a 24-mana cap battle in Modern format and only had the Rise of the Commons ruleset.
All elements except Water were active during this battle. I went with Earth and chose Helios Matriarch as my summoner which allowed me to use a Gladiator card and increased the speed of all friendly units by 1 at the expense of 6 mana.

I placed the Palidon Rakk in the first position as my tank. It was a gladiator unit for which I used my summoner. This comes with a bloodlust ability that increases its stats every time it defeats a unit. Once it gets going it can be very difficult to stop. It costs 7 mana and deals 3 melee attack damage and has a good amount of health to start with.
Next in my lineup was Madcap Magus, a mage costing just 4 mana and dealing magic attacks with a 'scattershot' ability. So it will hit a random target. It starts with low health but has the 'life leech' ability which can make it last much longer and it happened during my battle which you will see later.
In the third position, I placed the Goblin Psychic which was the backbone of this entire lineup. It not only deals a good amount of magic damage but comes with the 'tank heal' ability that supports the tank and makes it last much longer.
I spent most of my mana on those three units and was left with just 1 mana to spare which I used on Mycelic Morphoid. I placed it at the end just to make my backline stronger. I knew it would not be able to attack from this position but it can take a few hits from those sneaky monsters and protect my healer at the back for longer.
Now that my lineup is set let's talk about my strategy for this game.

My Strategy
The 'Rise of the Commons' ruleset was not an easy one for me. Mostly because I had a lot of choices on which element to choose and make the strategy. I went with a strong tank at the front which will get stronger if it eliminates some units and that's why I used this gladiator unit as my tank.
I supported my Palidon Rakk with a healer to make it last even longer and for that, I used the trusty Goblin Psychic which also does a good amount of magic attack damage on its own.
Madcap Magus proved to be the MVP for this battle as it silently gained more and more hp during the battles and proved to be a tough candidate to be eliminated off the battlefield.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube. Battle Link

My opponent went with a more magic damage-oriented lineup and used the Obsidian as their summoner and also used the Endless Ape towards the front line which can be a tough unit to eliminate, especially with a healer in their lineup.
My tank became more powerful after eliminating their Mycelic Morphoid earlier in the first round. This was a position development for me. Now both teams' tanks were opposite each other and went back and forth for a few rounds.
It took four rounds to get rid of their Endless Ape but my tank had more health and survived for longer after getting timely heals at the start of each new round.
Only at the start of round 7, did my tank get eliminated. It did its job beautifully and almost guaranteed us a win.
Since it took a lot of rounds to eliminate the tank, my Madcap Magus leeched life out of the opponent's units and increased its maximum health which also got heal support and it proved to be a tough task for them.
The battle went on for a few more rounds but the results were already known, my opponent was fighting a lost battle at that point. And I registered an easy win at the end. It looked quite tight at the start of the battle though.

Conclusion
Rise of the Commons ruleset is an interesting one as it will force you to use only Rare and Commons, and come up with a good strategy. It cuts down a lot of cards but if you go back to the fundamentals and use the basics well, you would win any battles comfortably.
Using a strong tank in the front, giving all my units extra armour or health and supporting the tank with 'tank heal' or possibly extra armour. All of these are helpful in most of the battles not just in this ruleset. In the end, just see what you have in your arsenal and try to come up with the best strategy.
Let me know what your strategy is with this ruleset.
