I’ve been a member of Splinterlands since 2019, and I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I am beyond grateful.
Because of scammers, I lost everything — and got it all back.
Here’s my story:
The Hack – April 20, 2025
Someone hacked into my Splinterlands account.
How did it happen?
I was trying to sell some cards and posted them on Discord. A man named Haikyuu contacted me. At first, he seemed trustworthy and friendly. He said he would buy all my cards at my listed price — he didn’t even try to negotiate.
When it came time to exchange — him sending me HIVE and me sending the cards — we had a video call.
That’s when the trouble started.
He told me to open my Hive Keychain and go to:
Accounts → Manage account → Show keys
I immediately told him I couldn’t do that because it would allow him to access my account. I explained how he could simply send HIVE to me — like I’ve done many times before. But he kept insisting I go into Keychain.
Then he said:
"Don’t show me your keys, just show your QR code so I can send the money faster."
I didn’t think much of it. I wasn’t familiar with that method — so I trusted him and showed my QR code during the video call.
That’s when I saw the warning:
⚠️ Do not share this code with anyone — it contains your keys.
But it was already too late.
Vanishing Cards and Realization
He started making excuses — said the internet was bad, and he’d call me back in 15 minutes.
I even asked him directly:
“You didn’t take a screenshot of my QR code, right?”
“No, of course not,” he replied.
So I said, “Okay, talk to you in 15 minutes.”
Of course, he never called back.
About 30 minutes later, I checked my account — and my cards were gone.
Panic and Immediate Help
I immediately realized what had happened.
Tried to change my keys — but I couldn’t do it through Hive Blog. So I went to Discord and asked for help.
Instantly, kind people jumped in to help.
One user explained how to quickly change my keys through Peakd — and it worked perfectly.
He also checked my account to see what had been stolen.
I’ll forever be grateful to him.
The Splinterlands Team Steps In
Shortly after, one of the main team members from Splinterlands reached out.
I explained everything — how the scam happened, who the person was, and what was taken.
He was incredibly understanding. I asked him if there was any chance I could get my items back.
Luckily, I had most of my cards locked for 3 days.
What was stolen included:
- DEC
- 2 cards
- All my Lands
- Some SPS
- A few Totems
They managed to unlock my SPS and 2 cards, but I was ready to accept the loss. I knew it was my mistake for showing the QR code, and I took responsibility.
🇸🇮 As we say in Slovenia: Every lesson costs something.
The Miracle: Everything Returns
Four days later, someone from Splinterlands contacted me again:
“Have you checked your account lately?”
I hadn’t — so I logged in…
And saw that:
✅ My 2 stolen cards
✅ All my Lands
✅ All my DEC
…had been returned!
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I jumped back to Discord:
“How is this even possible!?”
He told me they had blocked 3 accounts connected to the scammer and were able to recover most of my stolen assets.
I was completely speechless — and beyond happy.
I thanked the Splinterlands member a hundred times. He also told me he had personally lost $60 in the process.
I immediately offered to repay him — and four days later, I did.
Grateful Beyond Words
Now, here I am:
💖 Happy
🙏 Grateful
🌟 Still amazed
…that something like this is even possible.
Once again, THANK YOU to all the incredible members who helped.
You are all amazing.
A big hug to all. 🤗
Splinterlands is not just a game — it's a community.
And that’s why I’ll say it again:
