Coinbase QR Box Shut Down the Site
Hello everyone and YIPPEE! I'm back! I've missed writing you all and engaging with you, but I hurt my hand along with being super busy at work, so I was limited on writing to you. My hand is better, so I plan to be more focused on my business and posting about Splinterlands, but first let's talk about the Superbowl and the QR Box that shut down coinbase-BRILLIANT!
Marketing Genius Plan!
During the Superbowl, Coinbase dropped a genius ad, with a QR code bouncing around the screen slowly and offering bitcoin to all who join! Now I was driving on those lonely Kansas highways, so I missed the advertisement myself; however, before the night was through, articles were already deeming this thinking outside the box by using a box had broke Coinbase!! WHAT?! Yep. Daily mail was already telling the story that within moments after Coinbase aired the $14 million-dollar ad on the Superbowl, their site crashed. So, was the ad by Coinbase a genius plan--or was it? So let's discuss:
- If this idea by Coinbase was a genius idea
- What reaction/consequences can we possibly expect from this 60 second box
- How Splinterlands could respond, WHICH INCLUDES what YOU could do as well!
Was this Box a Good idea by Coinbase?
You betcha! Sure the news is Coinbase crashed; however, they are giving away $15 bitcoin from now until February 15th, so you still have time if you're interested! I believe it was a genius idea, because it appealed to a whole new group of non-crypto users. While I wasn't able to watch the game due to a meet up for my children, my sister was anxious to tell me all about it when I arrived back for the end of the third quarter (side note.... I should have been watching Kansas City Chiefs play, but HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR! YAY!). My sister knows I'm invested in crypto, and she said it was as if the TV was broke--nothing happened except this code on the screen! Brilliant! No extra flares. No extra digitally-enhanced technological commercial flying across the screen-- just back to the basics, out of the box thinking! Or in the box really! Anyone my age or younger was going to scan that code, because what are you doing during commercials anyways but holding your phone and sending a quick text? So you might as well scan the thing and see what happens, right? GENIUS!
If that many people responded that quickly, breaking Coinbase, then I think we know where to go marketing-wise, don't you?
Reaction/Consequences for this Box
Folks, the reality is, a whole bunch of people just got crypto. Getting into crypto is actually NOT that easy. I know the readers here on Hive are quite familiar with crypto and perhaps you forgot how difficult it can be, but when I set up a whole new entity for my business and put money into crypto, it took me nearly a month which meant I didn't even have the funds ready to actually buy the cards for the general sale of Splinterlands Chaos Legion by the way. Getting your money into crypto is a bit of a trick. Now, these folks who scanned that QR code will already have crypto to play with, but trust me from experience, they won't be able to do anything with it outside of Coinbase for several weeks except play around in the markets (which is how Coinbase wants it of course!). Sadly, Splinterlands is a non-tradable token in Coinbase, so people will need to wait nearly three weeks before they can move that bitcoin over to Splinterlands. It's a bit crazy, but hopefully if Coinbase prepared themselves (and based on their site crashing I'm not confident they have! HA!), they will have tutorials, explanations and otherwise telling people how to use their money. The negative here will be that Coinbase wants you to keep your money on Coinbase,so they won't really be suggesting you move it off to somewhere like Splinterlands. At the same time, you've now got TONS of new people ready to dip into the crypto world. WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
How Splinterlands Could Respond
Well, first of all, it would be AMAZING if they could get their token tradable on Coinbase. That would be the smartest move of all, but I don't see that as a quick and easy action, but I do hope they will get focused on it, because all that money is just sitting there for people to use, so let's market to the Coinbase crowd!
If Splinterlands can't get to Coinbase, let's bring the Coinbase users to us! As you may have noticed, I've created a QR code for my thumbnail and for the border. Do me a favor and go scan that (giggling). Yep that's right! It's my Splinterlands REFERRAL LINK! YIPPPEE!!
Now, if Splinterlands (OR YOU) would make your own gifs, and otherwise, you can promote your own QR and explain YOU DON'T NEED BITCOIN to get into Crypto.... wooo hooo!! It's a great marketing plan, and one I will be posting on my twitter and here of course. In fact, let me show you my gif right now.
See! I can make a bouncing QR code as well! YAY! So can you! So can Splinterlands! So please get your QR codes out the door folks, and let's see if we can bring some excitement to Splinterlands! Let me know if you try it or if you need help on how to do it and if I get enough interest I'm happy to make a tutorial to share with you on what to do. I've already posted to Twitter as you can see here:
