I have just had one of those low mana battles. This one was a max of 12 mana per player.
Strategy time?
What should I do? Should I put my faith in a heavy hitter? Or do I work on the assumption that many hands (monsters) make light work (and harder targets)?
If my opponent selects a heavy hitter, I need to get under their armour. So I chose magic as my main weapon. And who better to use magic than Alric Stormbringer for 3 mana.
Alric Stormbringer is from the Water Splinter and gives each monster a +1 magic attack.
For the remaining 9 points I chose the Ice Pixie (2 mana) ; Enchanted Pixie (3 mana) ; and Medusa (4 mana). This left the strongest to last, and maybe a "miss" attack for the flying pixies in first and second position. I was hoping each round to get 6 health, 4 health, and 2 health from any "high powered" monster an opponent might have chosen.
Let the Battle commence
My opponent had chosen the Pyre summoner from the Fire Splinter.
They chose two monsters : Living Lava and the Goblin Fireballer.
Living Lava, although it has armour, it has a slow movement speed. The Goblin Fireballer also has a slow movement speed. I might have first attack.
This would be a game of Water vs Fire.
Round 1
Although Pyre powered up my opponents monsters to level 2 speed, my pixies and medusa went first.
Living Lava took 3 full hits from my team doing a total of 6 damage. And as magic hits health (and not armour), I was able to take out Living Lava in the first round.
Cue the Goblin Fireballer on my opponents team.
But wait... the Goblin Fireballer had to take first position now. And the Goblin Fireballer only uses ranged attack. He can't attack me in first position!
Round 2
The fun bit. As my opponent can't attack, I watch in anticipate to see which of my team will finish him off. Go on Ice Pixie. You have the speed. You do it.
A quick battle, and over before my opponent could even attack.
Luck or Skill?
I don't know if it was Luck or Skill. I will do the same next time I have a low mana match to find out.
But what is your strategy?
How would you approach it?
Is there a flaw in my thinking?
Let me know your thoughts on other good low mana strategies!
