My most recent Splinterlands POST was all about my typical stuff: Land Resources to DEC, continuing to harvest Aura, increasing my position in the Grain-DEC LP, and buying more land plots. I also briefly discussed new cards I added to my collection in order to remain somewhat competitive in this new Modern era.
Though I have been very open about my earnings and how meticulous I have been to create my current land setup, I have to admit that one of the things I haven't been paying attention to is about how my approach compares to the rest of Praetoria.
I make this much DEC per week just from Land. What about the others? What is everyone else up to?
And then comes @azircon, the Cabal Lord himself, gifting us back to back to back articles that present information about Land Earnings and Player Rankings.
In this post, we will take a gander into these articles, get familiar with new terms and metrics, and interpret the data gathered regarding this resource-management division of our favorite game, Splinterlands!
Article Number 1: Land Efficiency Ratios
In case you missed it, AZ's first post (can be found HERE) introduced new terms and acronyms to the resource management division of the game.
Before we familiarize ourselves with these new terms and hope we remember what each letter in the acronym stands for, let's check my Land Earnings in DEC terms. For the purposes of this article, we will ignore the taxes I get from Keeps.
Using @beaker007's TOOL, we see that I can net a little bit over 510 DEC per hour from my Land investment.
510.751 DEC per hour equates to 12,258 DEC per day.
Neat!
LPE: Land Plot Efficiency
This is the relationship between the DEC generated per hour and the number of owned plots.
As of today, I own a total of 344 plots (yes, I'm still buying here and there). Only 78 of them are active and I am working towards getting more of them online.
Land Plot Efficiency (LPE) = (Total DEC Equivalent generated/hr)/ (Number of active Plots)
Using the formula above, we can compute for my current LPE.
- 510.751 DEC per hour / 78 active plots = 6.548 DEC per hour per plot.
Okay, is that good or bad?
LCE: Land Card Efficiency
Another land term we need to start remembering is the LCE which stands for Land Card Efficiency.
This is the relationship between your active Production Points (PP) and the DEC you generate per hour.
Land Card Efficiency (LCE) = (Total PP employed)/ (Total DEC Equivalent generated/hr)
AZ used BASE PP in his article so we are doing the same thing with our calcs.
Let's compute for my LCE. Using the above formula and referencing the image from Beaker's tool:
Total Base PP = 550,152.818 + 195,545.455 + 204,931.818 + 236,573.396 + 158,000.0 = 1,345,203.487 PP
1,345,203.487 PP / 510.751 DEC per hour = 2,633.775 PP / DEC per hour.

Don't be fooled by the title. It's not about me!
The 2nd article (HERE) is all about Land Player Rankings using the new land metrics. The initial data gathered from the first post included a lot of accounts. This time around, AZ limited the sample size and added a threshold of accounts earning at least 500 DEC.
Lo and behold, your boy made the cut, and that's why AZ put my name on the title! Even though my number wasn't exactly 500 DEC, AZ was nice enough to round it up so that I meet the minimum threshold.

So apparently, this ratio means my land setup is efficient! This is a good thing!
Keep in mind my total DEC/hr shown is a little different from our calculation above since this table was created a few days ago. Exchange rates of land resources vary from time to time depending on the activity in the pools.
Azircon is also aware that, as of the publishing of that 2nd article, his account didn't even make the cut. He's switching things around to ensure he is highly efficient, as well.
He also used @cyguy and @redundancy4040 as examples.

From these numbers, you can tell that our guy, cyguy, is highly efficient!
807 DEC per hour just from 26 active plots! He either has a lot of High PP, Gold Alphas or has massive Production Boosts like Totems, Titles, and Runi!
On the other hand, redundancy4040 isn't that far off regarding DEC earnings, though with 780 plots active, his LPE ratio was under 1.0.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just means that there is plenty of opportunity to make the land assets produce income more efficiently.
Back to AZ. He did say at the time of publishing his post that he's planning to adjust these his numbers.
I am extremely baffled to find out that my setup makes more DEC than his considering he's got a bigger collection and that he's been in the game longer.

Article Number 3: Land Efficiency: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Players have upped their land game! I may have fallen off the list of people who made the cut but that's okay! I will study my land setup again and analyze where I can do better!
Azircon is now ranked 33rd with 563 plots active, generating an impressive 719 DEC per hour! His LPE ratio increased to above 1.0!

LDE: Land DEC Efficiency
Another one!
The last metric we will discuss here is the LDE. This is the relationship between a player's staked DEC and the daily DEC the player earns.
Land DEC Efficiency (LDE) = (total_dec_stake_in_use)/(DEC/hr*24)
I currently have 1,713,245 Staked DEC. From an earlier calculation, my daily DEC is 12,258 DEC per day.
Using the LDE Formula results in a ratio of 139.77.
This means with my current land set up, every 139.77 DEC I have staked earns me 1 DEC/day.
I'd say it's good but it could be better.
For example, cyguy only needs around 5 DEC to earn 1 DEC daily!
What kind of workers and boosts do I need in order to lower my DEC usage like that? Hmm...
How These Metrics Affect My Splinterlands Strategy
I think I am off to a pretty good start with land. If you have been following my posts, you would know that I have been preparing for this for a long time.
Even though I have slightly switched strategies here and there (like when I acquired two tracts at different times and when I adjusted my setup to harvest Aura myself), my eyes are still on the prize: acquiring more shares of Praetoria and having a bigger position in the Pools. Also enjoying the game, of course.
I love playing the game as evidenced by my recent purchase of a few Conclave Arcana cards, but I also would love to generate enough income from the more passive parts of Splinterlands.
Understanding where I stand in terms of Land, in comparison with a lot of other players, especially big names, in the community is really eye opening.
I wasn't even planning on being this efficient. I just wanted to play the land game, produce, contribute, and then reap some rewards. It just happened that way!
You can interpret the data many different ways.
Some might not care about efficiency and just want to populate all their land.
Some would rather own enough land plots that they can afford to work and not even bother acquiring more since they will just be idle anyway.
You do you.
I believe Az's posts were meant to inspire, not dishearten others, especially smaller land holders.
For me though, I'd like to do both. Purchase more land, especially if the price is right, and gradually build them over time and buy purchasing and/or renting more workers suitable for that terrain.
This is a long game. I will keep at it and continue to grow my Splinterlands account one way or another.
