Hey Splinetrland Warlords,
The Campaign Mode:
For those who have not tried it yet, it is an exciting single-player experience that takes a new player through a lore-inspired battles upon battles, gradually unlocking the challenges and rewarding cards. Splinterlands new found favorite – Frontier is no doubt making massive wave not only on Hive Blockchain but across the entire web3 gaming space. It’s free to play mode, makes it very charming and interesting. Thankfully this game format was launched just when I got onboard. This Mode is most beneficial to newbies in sharpening their battle strategies and synergies before hitting the main screens. OGs are resharpening their skills to improve on the battle fields. The Book One is the first in this evolving saga, offering a beautiful crafted mix of stories, strategies and survival of the fittest.
My Journey through Book One : Waur Medge Academy
This is the starting point of the whole thing. In this mode, you have the chance of adding value to the gaming space by engaging in the various tasks. Though it might look very simple at first, it requires a lot of attention and critical thinking. Following the process keenly and gathering the needed info for the right time. That’s on the grounds of Core Mechanics: Mana Management, Card Synergy, and adjustments to meet rulesets requirements.
The Book 1 is mainly divided into Parts and Chapters with their subchapters.
- Prologue (Part 1)
This part is where we travel to the Waur Medge Academy of battle Magic. We went in to start lesson. Along the road, there was a confrontation by the wild bear hence need for a battle. Had one card (Dread Tafarian). The only Monster (7 Mana) to battle with, having 9 lives and a melee attacker with -1 damage. This part is to introduce the student to the card usage (Summoning). The bear was wounded to the core by the Leonine.
- Prologue (Part 2)
The arrival at the Waur Medge where we had a bowl but was against a whole army. I had just Dread Tarafian to battle all these monsters hence a big lose.
Chapter 1
A warm welcome into the class which was done by Headmaster Bimbelnok.
- Chapter 2
This is where we were able to get knowledge on cards types.
- Chapter 3
Made emphasis on the melee attack, where Melee monsters are to be positioned at the front roll because that's the only position it can strike from unless maybe stated otherwise in the ruleset. Or the Melee monster has an additional special ability(s). So as you can see Dread Tafarian put on the first position because its a Melee attacker and Mad Gearhead put behind him. Victorious as usual.
- Chapter 4 - Ranged Attack
Delve into the Ranged attackers. Of which we got to understand that, ranged attackers can only strike from the back. I failed on the first attempt because I didnt position my cards well. Then give it one more try then success came in.
- Chapter 5 - Armor
This has to do with Amors. It help prevent damage from attackers so to maintain the health of the monster.
- Chapter 6 - Speed
This is what determines the team which takes their turn first and also decreases the accuracy of enemy Melee and Ranged attacks.
- Chapter 7 - Magic Attack
Capable of breaking all the rules and going straight at the enemy army without much resistance especially in the case of Monsters with Armor. It can break through and cause direcet damage to the health of Armor armed Monsters. Can also be used from any position and hardly does it miss.
- Chapter 8 - Abilities
In this chapter, Professor Montclair introduced us to the various abilities that could maximize the potential of a beat down of an enemy army.
- Chapter 9 - Mana
This part has to do with effective team building. There Mana is the total limit of to which both Summoners and Monsters can be deployed unto the battlegrounds. This is the most strategic aspect of the whole show, in the sense that, a player is given a certain limit and he has to make the best of choice in the selections to meet that limit. Hence it such a calculative part get the guys who can deliver.
- Chapter 10 - Element
The various elements are Water, Earth, Death, Dragon, Fire and . The archons with no elements are Neutral and can be used for any battle. There are instances where the Ruleset can restrict a player to a particular element(s). In this case you have to make the most effective selection to bring about the best result.
- Chapter 11 - Modifiers
The abilities of the monsters can be limited in some circumstances. That is when the Ruleset are given. This renders some monsters useless or super powerful. Depending on the kind of monsters chosen, the game could go in favor of a player or against. But there are instances where the rules does not change, it remains the same. A strategic player should be able to select the best summoner and monster to take advantage of any modifications in battle.
Chapter 12 - Putting Knowledge Acquired to Test
This chapter exposes the player to the battlefield. We put all knowledge acquired into practice. The Chapter 12 alone is divided into four chapters where every chapter increases the challenge. From Chapter 12.1 to Chapter 12.4 . The Chapter 12.1 is the beginning of the test. The beginning of strategic synergy building through summoner and monster selections. It takes into account the Rulesets: Mana and Elements. No time limit on the chapter 12.1 tho.
I took the challenge and it was easy on there although I made some risky positioning. The battle was won in grand style without a single monster being eliminated. I used the fire elements. Summoner Barthalamas, with +1 speed to all member monsters. Then placed Frankarsgard on the first position to shield my team for long. Followed by Chaos Furybringer, a Reach ability that can use melee attack from the second position. Then Vengeful Monk, Ash Archer, Spellmonger then Scale of Justice.
The toughest part was the Chapter 12.4. At a point in time i felt it was impossible to beat. Thayko Gol'eavas had the upper hand in every wise. Speed, heath, and it was a gang of Magic attackers. Not a bit subjective to Armor. I got beating till I remembered the secret weapon against the Magic, Speed. Then a summoner with maximum speed was used. That was the beginning of the end for Thayko Gol'eavas.
The last few missions were no joke! I had to dig deep into my collection, rent smarter, and play patiently. But the satisfaction of seeing that “Book Complete” screen? Absolutely worth it.
It was fun. I was able to unlock all the chapters and waiting patiently for Book Two.
This journey has helped me gain deeper knowledge into cards mechanics that i previously undermined. Built the exact confidence to take on the big boys and advance challenges which will prepare me for Book 2.
