Hello Splinterland Warlords,
Out of the learning process comes both success and failures. We are fun of sharing the most exciting and successful moments. But what of the petty little mistakes that we make during the learning process? We hardly see that but it all counts in the success stories.
Found myself super pumped to jump unto the battle field on Spllinterland just some few days ago. As soon as I did, I went straight to the Practice section, to get myself equipped with the needed knowledge and skills before hitting the main screens. As anybody will think it wish to do. Not the case this time round though. You will get to know why so in a short while.
Went straight to the market to get some cards for the action. The name Chaos Legion sounded super cool and there were a lot on both sales and rentals. Who wouldn’t want to make some chaos in the arena? Lol. It was also packed with lots of cards on rent.
I had wanted to buy initially but on a second thought, felt like renting for now. Afterall, I am now getting used the system. It was really packed, with about 136 Cards. I rented the Card Set. Then begin to practice on the Practice Section hoping to jump unto the Modern later to kick some gamers down the throat.
To my surprise, Cards where not available anytime I visit the Modern format. Then I realized ohhhhhh!! Chaos Legion cards have been recently pushed out of Modern format. Yup, could not even use the cards I spent credits on in the format I planned on using them in.
Totally my fault, I didn’t take time to thoroughly read the guidelines. And besides I never thought there was anything like that, where cards could be exempted from a particular format on the same gaming platform. Funny enough, it was written boldly on the Modern format page/interface as we as the other Formats: Wild and Survival.
Just like most newbies, I did not fully understand the difference between the various formats: Modern, Wild and Survival. Just saw powerful cards on the market from Chaos Legion and thought these will definitely boost my win rate and push me faster to the top. So as usual, just jumped on them but time to battle on the Modern format which seemed to be the hot cake now just to meet this message “Card not eligible for Modern format.” Disappointing to hear, but I am a guy with lots of patience so I sort out other means.
The only option available was to try other formats like Survival. But looking at the risk that comes with the survival too was a threat to a newbie like me. With Survival format, Cards becomes unplayable once they are defeated until they cool down in order to be revived.
That was a bit strange, I didn’t understand to even know what that was like in the first place. But it didn’t sound nice to me. Like you know what I mean? Your card being defeated and you have to wait for who knows how long for that card to be used again. Didn’t sound nice to me. I hesitated and I’m still wondering whether to give it a try or not. I need serious advice on this, gurus out here, help out with your suggestions.
Where is the lesson and why is it necessary?
It’s very good to take notice between the three (3) different formats namely Modern, Wild and Survival. They are different game formats and requires different cards for battles.
What’s the Differences?
As mentioned earlier there are basically three (3) different gaming format. Let me brief you them. You can check the main page for deeper insights.
Modern This game format only includes latest sets of cards for example Rebellion, Soulbound, etc with the exemption Legion Chaos. An idle place for new plays starter points.
Wild This allows for all sets of which older cards like Chaos Legion, Beta and Untamed are all welcomed for battle but just that is very competitive and requires a pass to access. This last for a season and then pass is to be bought again. This format is not for free. Take not as beginners guide.
Survival This game format also welcomes all cards including the old ones just. The only difference is that, cards can be benched for a while due to injury. That’s being defeated at battle will take a while for it to cool down to revive.
Its very good to have a game plan before entering the battle field. Things like this is very necessary to consider because Splinterland is a strategic environment. Strategics are not only applied at the battle field but in managing available resources as well. Cards are assets and needs to be managed strategically in order to get the maximum results and satisfaction as well as the fun side. Being able to strategically manage the little is a sign of greater achievement in the long run on splinterlands.
Brotherly Advice to Newbies
Make sure to know the various game formats and check if cards to be rented or bought are usable in the preferred format. Being intentional about the format of interest.
Also read updates on the page and anything constantly evolving especially changes like rotating sets out. Try and filter out Modern-eligible cards if that’s actually the main target.

A mistake it was but in Splinterlands, even the smallest mistakes can teach great and powerful lessons about game strategy, card/asset value and decision making.
I wouldn’t call this a waste but its an experience worth sharing, it might be of help to somebody new to our community. So to make a journey easier for somebody new here too. Keep heads up for something new.
