Have you noticed? Hive is still in a rut. Hive price is down 49.5% from this time last year. Posts are down 23.6% in the same time frame, monthly active authors are down 27% and overall transactions are down about 47%.
And yet, there is one side of Hive that has just kept chugging along - that is the Hispanic/Venezuelan community on Hive. Since the start of 2023, not only is the Hispanic Hive community not declining, it is in fact growing at a brisk pace not usually seen outside of a crypto bull market.
It is still down 17% year on year, but the direction is positive. In 4 months, the tag 'spanish' has gone from 12% of Hive posts to over 15%, near an all time high. This is likely an underestimate of how many posts are Spanish, as about just as many posts are made in the language without using the tag.
Aside from Venezuela, we have a rapidly growing community in Cuba.
Cuba is also second in Hive for penetration rate (excluding microstates), and is joined by Trinidad and Tobago (not officially Spanish speaking, but this likely represents the large Venezuelan minority in the country) in the top 15 by this metric.
Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries feature heavily in the top 20 for Hive users.
