Hola querido hiver.
Era una tarde de sábado. Paseábamos por el centro comercial La Torre Outlet. Desde hace unos años cuando hay un local vacío suelen ofrecerlo a asociaciones para que monten exposiciones. De este modo se ven todos los espacios ocupados y anima más a las compras.
Lo que no esperaba era encontrarme con una exposición sobre las extinciones que ha sufrido nuestro plantea y una muestra de fósiles y minerales. Por supuesto, dejé a mi marido entretenido viendo un partido de fútbol en el móvil sentado en un banco y yo entré a curiosear y hacer fotos.
Como buena niña curiosa desde que tuve conocimiento de que la Tierra estuvo poblada por dinosaurios que desaparecieron de repente por una catástrofe planetaria esos bichos me han llamado siempre la atención. En mi caso las películas de Jurassic Park llegaron después. Además, la comunidad en la que vivo tiene numerosos restos fósiles y un gran museo que hace las veces de parque temático con los dinosaurios como eje central, Dinópolis.
La exposición comenzaba con una gran diversidad de ammonites. Los había de todos los tamaños, con su forma espiral.
Parece increíble que existiera tal diferencia de volumen dentro de la misma especie.
Lo más llamativo eran un par de esqueletos de mosasaurios, una especie de mezcla entre ballena y dinosaurio. Al leer el panel explicativo es evidente que se trata de maquetas a escala, pues estos animalitos medían unos 15-18 metros de longitud. Pero los niños que había por allí era lo que más admiraban.
En un rincón nos enseñaban varias clases de carbón fosilizado y explicaban su proceso de formación en la naturaleza. También había unos estantes con folletos, juegos y láminas relacionadas con la exposición. Los peluches de dinosaurio estaban presentes por todo el local aportando un punto divertido.
En el expositor central aparecían diversas especies de fósiles marinos, tanto animales como vegetales. Entre estos los más característicos de la zona son los helechos y los trilobites.
Me hizo mucha gracia el cuadro lleno de dientes. Me recordó a los que se pusieron de moda por un tiempo que tenían nudos marineros. Bien pensado, todo queda en el mar. Por cierto, aunque ese tiburón sea pequeño no me gustaría ser mordido por esa boca ni en mi peor pesadilla, qué miedo.
Allí había más dientes que en la consulta del odontólogo. Algo que me he preguntado siempre es por qué no tienen apenas raíz. Al verlos incrustados en estas mandíbulas encontré la explicación: son tan planas que no cuentan con espacio suficiente para eso.
En otro expositor encontramos una pequeña muestra de minerales. Mi favorita siempre ha sido la pirita. Sigo sin comprender cómo puede lograr esa forma cúbica con aristas tan perfectas. Me fascina.
Cuando era niña se pusieron de moda las colecciones de minerales y tuve algunos ejemplares. El cuarzo y la fluorita estaban entre ellos.
Al final del recorrido tenían un espacio de venta de artículos relacionados con la muestra. ¡Incluso pedazos de meteoritos!

It was a Saturday afternoon. We were walking through the shopping centre La Torre Outlet. For a few years now, when there is an empty place, they usually offer it to associations to set up exhibitions. In this way you can see all the occupied spaces and encourage more shopping.
What I did not expect was to find an exhibition about the extinctions that our planet has suffered and a sample of fossils and minerals. Of course, I left my husband entertained watching a soccer game on his cell phone sitting on a bench and I went in to browse and take pictures.
As a good curious girl since I learned that the Earth was populated by dinosaurs that suddenly disappeared due to a planetary catastrophe, those bugs have always caught my attention. In my case, the Jurassic Park movies came later. In addition, the community in which I live has numerous fossil remains and a large museum that acts as a theme park with dinosaurs as the central axis, Dinópolis.
The exhibition began with a great diversity of ammonites. There were them of all sizes, with their spiral shape.
It seems incredible that there was such a difference in volume within the same species.
The most striking were a couple of skeletons of mosasaurs, a kind of mixture between whale and dinosaur. When reading the explanatory panel it is evident that they are scale models, since these little animals measured about 15-18 metres in length. But the children there were what they admired the most.
In a corner they taught us several kinds of fossilised coal and explained their formation process in nature. There were also some shelves with brochures, games and sheets related to the exhibition. The dinosaur stuffed animals were present throughout the place providing a fun point.
Various species of marine fossils, both animals and plants, appeared in the central exhibitor. Among these, the most characteristic of the area are ferns and trilobites.
I was very amused by the painting full of teeth. It reminded me of those who became fashionable for a while that they had sailor knots. Well thought out, everything is in the sea. By the way, even if that shark is small I would not like to be bitten by that mouth even in my worst nightmare, how scary.
There were more teeth there than in the dentist's office. Something I have always wondered is why they have hardly any roots. Seeing them embedded in these jaws I found the explanation: they are so flat that they don't have enough space for that.
In another exhibitor we found a small sample of minerals. My favourite has always been the pirita. I still don't understand how it can achieve that cubic shape with such perfect edges. It fascinates me.
When I was a child, mineral collections became fashionable and I had some copies. Quartz and fluorite were among them.
At the end of the tour they had a space for the sale of items related to the exhibition. Even pieces of meteorites!
