Year in and year out Titans GM Jon Robinson seems to pull a rabbit out of his hat and sign some pretty good to great talent, even when it seems the Titans have zero cap space left. It's sort of a lot of pressure but nevertheless J-Rob gets something done to keep the Titans in the mix. I'm pretty much a J-Rob fanboy at this point but I mean the Titans have been consistently winning with him and his solid moves. His drafts the past few years have been a bit too close to average, but even those have been overall pretty good. Plus as I have said in previous posts, there's still a handful of drafted talent that have not gotten a fair evaluation due to injury.
A part of me wants to be a bit mad at Ryan Tannehill and well, a part of me probably is. But man, the Titans were insanely injured last year and Tannehill's receiving options were no exception. Tannehill was practically the only offensive player that stayed healthy, and that was amazing.
A pretty absurd amount of receivers went down last year. Including Tannehill's top two receivers. Oh yeah, and Derrick Henry went down with injury. Just a mess.
Well, J-Rob made two STRONG moves offensively to help resurrect this Titans offense.
After creating some money from releasing players and restructuring contracts J-Rob managed to get his hands on two Pro Bowl caliber offensive players.
WR Robert Woods and TE Austin Hooper are officially Tennessee Titans!
Woods was acquired through a trade and Hooper was acquired via free agency! The more I think about these moves the more I LOVE them.
Hooper is a truly solid do-it-all tight end and his presence will be a SERIOUS breath of fresh air. Tannehill does seem to do pretty well with having a go to tight end to throw to, as most quarterbacks do. The Titans were WEAK SAUCE for the most part at tight end ESPECIALLY due to injury. I was even saying in an older post that I really hope the Titans can draft a TE, well this move works too! It's only a one year deal too, so I guess the Titans are just playing it safe which is cool. Hooper had two somewhat down years in Cleveland after starting off his career pretty strong in Atlanta where he was a two-time Pro Bowler. I don't hold those years in Cleveland against him though, the Browns QB play wasn't too elite let's say, and the Browns were a run heavy offense anyway. Hooper can block very well too.
No disrespect to Hooper, he's a great TE! But the player I'm kind of more pumped about the Titans signing is BOBBY TREES BABY. Robert Woods. In fact, I'd say with the Titans getting Woods, it really compliments the Hooper signing greatly.
Last year the Titans were supposed to get a boost from Superstar Julio Jones, but that really didn't pan out whatsoever. Jones did not even crack 500 yards receiving. So, that sucked.
Who are the Titans getting in Robert Woods? Perhaps one of the most underrated receivers in football! Woods is just a good receiver that knows how to get open. It's quite surprising that he's never been a Pro Bowler. Woods was a really big part of the Rams high powered offense from the past half decade. He has succeeded with poor QB's and good QB's. Woods has two 1,000 yard seasons in his career and is just really pretty consistent.
It may just be two players, but it is two desperately needed, proven players. Feels like hopefully perfect fits.
The Titans are already talented. These two vets in their prime will be great as the Titans head into the draft.
Can't wait to see these two in two-tone blue!
Can't wait till the Draft!
Can't wait until September already!!!
Welcome to the squad Hooper and Woods!! Pretty sweet last names too, LOL.
Woods and Hooper just need to combine for 500 yards receiving and they will be a better pickup than Julio was last year LOL.
What do you think of the signings?
LET'S GO #TITANUP!!!
