Time passes by way too quickly. Been super busy with work, that my Titans updates have been less frequent, in addition to my own laziness and procrastination of course.
It's already September! So the news and updates about the team have just been heating up in general. So let's get right to it.
Last week the Titans defeated the Cardinals 26-23 in the Titans' final preseason game. When it comes to preseason games, this was a really good exciting battle to watch. Felt like a borderline regular season game out there!
Malik Willis seems to be improving slowly but surely! He found fellow rookie, Titans 2022 first round draft pick, Treylon Burks for a sweet looking slant that went for a TD! Malik threw the ball side arm to ensure it wouldn't get batted down at the line of scrimmage. The ball whizzed just passed the fingertips of a Cardinals defender. Just a really slick, pretty high level play.
Malik has shown his wheels off multiple times this preseason, and against the Cardinals he went off for a fifty yard scamper!!
The Titans other backup QB, longtime Titan Logan Woodside, had the game-winning score in the game! On fourth down late in the fourth quarter Woodside showed that Malik isn't the only QB who can scramble. Woodside cut through the middle of the pocket and ran for the TD! He finished it off with a nice emphatic spike! I'm happy for Woodside. Good depth, practice squad QB, solid competitor.
Backup rookie running back Julius Chestnut and journeyman linebacker Joe Jones have also played really well this preseason.
Harold Landry III injured, Josh Gordon Signed
In two very recent pieces of news, Titans old reliable vet OLB Harold Landry III tore his ACL and is out for the whole season!!! Terrible news. He is a big part of the Titans strength that is their defensive line. This is a big loss. The Titans are pretty deep, but this is a massive hit no doubt. Hopefully Rashad Weaver can come in and make more of a name for himself. Still got Bud, Big Jeff, and Denico and company.
In some hopefully more positive news, the Titans signed mildly controversial wide receiver Josh Gordon to the team's practice squad. I feel like the guy has bounced around a lot. Getting older, and perhaps washed up. But hey, he did have a great prime, and the Titans are maybe a little thin at wideout. Not a terrible signing at all, but just nothing to be pumped about. I will be more than happy to be proved wrong by him.
A wild day for the Titans for sure.
