Greetings to all members of this wonderful community. Today I want to share this practice of a drawing from a real reference using some things I have at home.
It is always better drawing from a real life source than using a photo reference, because a photograph can't give us the full information we need to obtain a better drawing or painting.
Un saludo a todos los miembros de esta maravillosa comunidad. El día de hoy deseo compartir ésta práctica de dibujo que he realizado del natural valiéndome de recursos que tengo en casa.
Siempre es mejor opción dibujar del natural pues una fotografía no nos proporciona la información necesaria para obtener un buen dibujo o pintura.
Today I have used a plastic skull I have at home, this anatomical model has little holes in the eye sockets and I will take advantage of them to try to project the lighting.
In theory light should come from tht side to get more defined areas of lights and shadows in order to have a sensation of three-dimentionality, but I have decided that I will place the light source inside of the skull by using a little ring light.
Hoy he utilizado un cráneo que tengo en casa, este modelo anatómico tiene agujeros en las cuencas oculares y les sacaré provecho para proyectar la iluminación.
En teoría la luz debería venir de un costado para obtener áreas definidas de luces y sombras que nos darán la sensación de tridimensionalidad, pero he decidido que la luz va a venir desde adentro del cráneo utilizando un pequeño aro de luz.
The first step is to center the figure and to trace the rough shape of said object and I will be defining it as I go along.
Having the figure relatively complete I evaluate the proportions, it will gain definition as I place lights and shadows, without forgetting to establish a hierarchy, which means I will compare an area of lights to another one, and comparing the shadow areas as well.
El primer paso es encajar la figura y trazar una aproximación de la forma que iré definiendo de a poco.
Teniendo la figura relativamente completa se evalúan las proporciones, que igualmente ganarán definición al ubicar las luces y sombras sin olvidar establecer una jerarquía, es decir, comparando un área clara con otra, y lo mismo con las áreas de sombra.
A simpler way is to establish an scale of values. I normally use five shades, white, black and three shades in between.
Having this guide established it's just a matter of analyzing the placement of each shade in the areas of the composition.
Una manera simplificada es elaborar una tabla de valores. Por lo general empleo cinco tonos, blanco absoluto, negro absoluto y tres tonos en medio de estos. Teniendo establecida está tabla simplemente se analiza en qué área de la composición corresponde cada tonalidad.
After having finished the pencil drawing of the skull I decided to re-draw it with two more techniques. Always using the same principles.
Luego de haber finalizado el cráneo a lápiz he decidido hacer lo mismo con otras dos técnicas. Siempre partiendo del mismo principio.
