If you've been around the spiritual and self-development world at all, chances are you've come across the "Conversations With God" book series by Neale Donald Walsch.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that I can sometimes be a little on the "nutball" end of the spectrum — and should add that I have NO aspirations to be "God" — but I have often had "conversations with myself."
It's something I've been doing since I was a wee lad, perhaps somewhat inspired by my Auntie who was the first adult to tell me that "All intelligent beings talk to themselves," rather than the more typical "Stop that at once! People will think you're crazy!"
Tiny explorer...
I suppose the habit of talking to myself — which a lot of kids actually do, until they are "untaught" to do so — came about because I spent so much time alone, from a very early age. But it felt very natural.
Sometimes, I'm actually really grateful for cell phones because I can sit in the car and talk to myself with impunity, and people no longer look at me strangely because virtually everyone has a hands-free phone for the car, these days!
Yay for technology!
Conversations...
Maybe there is something slightly schizodoodle about this idea that "you" are actually two separate voices, carrying on both sides of a conversation.
Regardless, I find it to be a very useful psychological tool to work through problems and situations. For some reason, "speaking what I am thinking" helps my flow of thoughts.
I am still a little dumbfounded by the whole idea that something gets labelled "mental illness" when it is actually helping a person be functional, in their life...
Autumn mood...
Today is the 1st of November, and with it, we start the HiveBloPoMo challenge.
Honestly, I don't really have any specific goals, other than trying my best to complete the challenge. Well, maybe not entirely true.
...and Goals
I have one goal of making an effort to engage more on Hive, and to make a point of visiting posts tagged with the #hiveblopomo tag.
The other goal — which came up when I started thinking about the whole goals thing — is to create 30 days of posts (independently of my typical blog content) centered around this whole "Conversations With Myself"
concept.
November is often when I start thinking about goals, anyway. It's when I start looking back at what I had hoped to accomplish during the preceding year... and determine whether any of it can still be reeled in with a "last ditch effort," or should I just admit defeat and spend my time with more modest ambitions.
Usually, my goals are pretty modest.
That said I am far more of a "thinker and planner" than I am a "doer and executor" of aforesaid plans. I plod along slowly and methodically (tip of the hat to @slothlydoesit and the whole @slothbuzz crew!) and hopefully get where I'm going... eventually.
Goals... and 2024
More than anything, the whole "goals" thing got me thinking ahead to 2024, and what to plan. If anything.
I have not had much "success" with goals... most years, some "unplanned disaster" strikes and wipes out all my good intentions. In 2023, it was having to power down 90% of my Hive to pay a property tax bill. Such is life, I suppose...
Anyway, I had a lengthy debate with myself and then I went back through my "Big Planning Spreadsheet" and ended up revising down my previously set goals for 2024. Frankly, I'd rather be conservative and overshoot in 2024, than fall short and feel disappointed again.
We'll see how it all turns out. Maybe I'll change my mind if the Cryptosphere has a "Santa Claus Rally!"
Comments, feedback and other interaction is invited and welcomed! Because — after all — SOCIAL content is about interacting, right? Leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation! I do my best to answer comments, even if it sometimes takes a few days!
