Once again, I'm going "off script" for my HiveBloPoMo topic today. I'm only mentioning it though to remind people that it's perfectly fine to do your own thing each day. The Hive Blog Posting Month daily prompt calendar is just there in case you're looking for something to inspire a post.
And as I've had tons of moon photos gathering dust on my hard drive for months now, I thought I'd take this opportunity to finally get some of them posted. You see, sometimes I get myself a bit overwhelmed with how many pictures I take at at time. In this case, I took something like 100 shots the night before the full moon, and fifty-ish more the following evening. Then when I start scanning through, looking for the ones I want to post, my brain melts and I have to stop because I can't decide.
However, doing this daily challenge means I really do have to decide, so rather than shooting (ha!) for a long post with all my favorites, I decided to just go through chronologically and go with the first dozen pictures I thought were cool.
(truth be told, I ended up with sixteen at first, but I narrowed it down again from there...lol)
This also happens to be the night that I saw something strange in the sky, but those photos are a bit further down in the file. I'm hoping to get to those over the next few Mondays.
As for these photos, as per my usual FYI - these were taken in the yard of my Durham, NH home with my Nikon, also using my tripod. All were resized, then cleaned up a bit with PicMonkey - mostly the exposure and sharpness, but with a few other tweaks like vignette filters for the corners here and there.
Moon Monday - Night before the Full Moon, May 25th 2021
1. When I first stepped out on the porch, the moon was sitting directly behind the flag, something I don't recall seeing before.
2. It looked wicked cool, so I tried to take a few pictures, but soon realized how difficult it is to get a clean shot of something waving in the breeze at night, even during the bright light of an almost full moon.
3. This is my favorite from the bunch, but even still, I don't feel it does justice to the moment.
. 4. The view of the sky as soon as I stepped off the porch.
5. Given how cloudy the sky was getting, I zoomed in quick to make sure I got at least one close up.
6. Then I walked down the yard a bit, to see if I could get some cool shots of the moon playing peek-a-boo with the trees. Here's the zoomed out all the way shot.
7. Zoomed in a bunch.
8. Then zoomed in even closer. It's always so
frustrating interesting how the lighting changes & doesn't actually reflect how it looked in the sky.
9. Although I won't complain. Much.
10. It's also tough trying to find the balance between getting a sharp image of the moon without losing the focus on the tree branches.
11. A little bit of a zoom out and the moon loses focus completely and just looks like a glowing blob. But at least it's a pretty blob.
12. Zoom back in a little bit more, and the blob turns into a circle again. I could probably edit this somehow to show the definition of the moon, but for now, I'll just enjoy the glow. I hope you do too.
