I've been wanting to write a post about the loss of our cat Sid (short for Obsidian) since June of last year, which is when he passed. But every time I try to do it, my heart gets poked too hard.
He literally walked into our lives way back in June of 2004, when we were in the middle of a very stressful move from a large duplex to a much smaller place (story for another day). The kitchen door on our ground floor was open as we hauled boxes, and he wandered in, sat down in the middle of the floor, and meowed at us like, "Umm, where have you guys been? I'm hungry." He stayed with us over the next sixteen years and six places (including two stops at campgrounds during our fulltime camper living experiment).
I thought #HiveBloPoMo would be a good time to tackle it, since the pressure is on to get out my daily post. But the Universe is conspiring against me in the form of lots of busyness both online and off over the past couple days, so my planned memorial post is going to just be some of my favorite pictures of him from over the years.
1. One of my favorite pictures of him from the early days, in 2005.
Â
Â
2. Another of my favorites that always makes me smile - the eldest (who was about ten at the time) holding him in a way that, while it wasn't his favorite, he tolerated on more than a bazillion occasions. 😂
Â
Â
3. Sid and our late dog Eddie (who we lost in 2013) chilling while we got one of our campsites set up in 2012.
Â
Â
4. Out for a walk about a month later at the same campground.
Â
Â
5. In May of 2016, hanging out in the yard of the place we live at now. Yes, we walked him around on leash, and he even did his business outside that way until the final year or so of his life (when he ended up preferring the litter box).
Â
Â
6. Sandy & Sid hanging out together in 2017.
Â
Â
7. While Sid didn't mind sharing, he also enjoyed it when Sandy jumped down from the bed. We used to call this his, "Super Kitty" pose. 😂
Â
Â
8. Freddie and Sid hanging out together in January 2019, only a few months after Freddie joined our family in November 2018.
Â
Â
9. The boys again in April 2020, just a couple of months before we had to say goodbye to Sid.
Â
Â
Sid also kindly agreed to pose for a few graphics for me. This is my favorite one from 2015 (created with a bit of photoshop, as he wasn't kind enough to tolerate a witch's hat like this...lol).
