I can't adequately describe yesterday. The fear I went through, the intensity of the experience... Holy Shit!
The Canyon Ferry dam t he north end of the lake.
This was where we loaded up the boat to head down to the launch site.
As we were pulling into the launch site this bald eagle was sitting on the point. I launched just behind it later. I yook that as a really good omen to have it there, waiting for us to arrive then it took off.
The amount of fear I felt was incredible for me as I RARELY ever feel this intensely or go through such levels of emotion. The tow is the shit part while the act of making my wing collapse was the easy part. It is just listen and respond. This was as I reached up to pull the front risers down to cause a full frontal collapse of the wing.
This is grabbing the other side.
Then the pull, the wing collapses and falls behind me, I let go of the risers and the wing reinflates with a boom and flies again. HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!
That point is the launch and landing site.
These are shots of my collapses.
This is the launch site which is just all out in the sun. It was a hot day but the winds ended up pretty perfect.
Scott was the first to go for the day and he had done the course before. I for once was not the least experienced person in the group. The most outwardly afraid, but still with hours.
The only one to land in the water was the most experienced guy who was practicing stalls to back fly and lost too much altitude and hit the water near the campground. @stryeyz got this shot.
Laid his wing out on the shore to dry along with his reserve.
I got myself a healthy sunburn on my leg late in the day and then had to wait a while for @stryeyz and the boys to come get me. It was after 7pm when I was in the car riding back to the hotel thankfully with a cold beer in my hands.
Only so much I can type right now about this as today is starting earlier due to winds mid day to afternoon likely to kick us out. I feel WAY better about the whole thing now and am not nearly as scared or unsure. This is the most intense thing I have put myself through in decades, if not ever, and I'm going back to do it again.
