I have no idea if this will become a regular thing or not (if I'm being completely honest, it probably won't), but in an effort to be more active, I'm going to give myself an easy thing to keep up with. So, with that, I welcome you to my Two Tunes Tuesday!
I grew up in the '90s/'00s New Jersey alternative scene. There were a LOT of bands that came out of our area back then and it was almost difficult to keep up with them. One of my favorites from the time was Thursday. They became decently successful following the release of their second album, but kind of faded back into the shadows shortly afterwards. I had moved on to other genres and lost track of what they were up to for a while, but last year they released the single "White Bikes" and it's been stuck in my head almost constantly since. It hearkens back to the sounds I remember them for in my youth and it brings me a ton of joy to hear:
In the same vein, but different... a little band from South Carolina released an album called "Rituals of Life" in 1999. While the whole album is fantastic (it's officially rated a perfect album by both my wife and me), one song in particular has always stood out... the sixth track titled "For Now". The song goes through emotional stages of grief and joy and ends up pulling the listener into so that you can't help but posi-point and sing along while the person next to you sweats it up int he crowd:
And there we have it; A couple of tunes that have affected me a bunch that I can confidently say most people haven't heard before! Again, I can't guarantee I'll keep this idea going, but I think it's a relatively low effort post that I could get myself to do on a consistent basis. Let me know if you've got any feedback or suggestions for other tracks I should check out!
