A bit of a quiet spell at the auction house was broken by this little win... I do love my old silver coins, and this United Kingdom 1854 Groat (4 pence) was a nice little item to pick up. Pre 1900 coins are hard to find in Australia at a decent price... so, when one pops up, I do bid a tiny little bit over the stinky spot price! And sometimes, these things are overlooked by other bargain hunters... and I think that this time, it was overlooked, because it was bundled with two other pretty worthless coins. So... lucky me!
It is a tiny little coin, and only weighs a couple of grams at best... apparently it was introduced, but lost favour to the three-pence. And it is Sterling Silver as well, 0.925 in silver content. And the actual coin itself isn't the worst shape either!

Well... the head side is definitely in less good shape...

Also included in this bundle was a strange little 1911 King George medallion of some sort... It appears to be a commemoration of his coronation... so, interesting.... but ultimately, not really worth anything to me!

Still... decent enough condition, and it might be worth something to someone else... but I'm more than happy to let this one go at some point in the future!

... and then the most useless coin in the whole batch! A commemorative Australian modern coin... worth 1 dollar at face value, and minted in celebration of the last ANZACS. In very good condition, and it would be worth a little bit to someone who had a more personal connection to the ANZACs possibly?

... but for me, it is only worth the face value of the dollar coin.
