It has been a while since sharing anything with the SGS. So, thought while waiting for a couple items I ordered I'd share some items I had laying around waiting to be placed into mylar holders. Nothing real special but hey, it's something silver.
This is the 1923 One Florin from Great Britian. It is circulated and has seen many hands I am sure. I wonder if it passed through the hands of some British soldier's to U.S. soldier's during WWII? These are the type of things I like to think about when I collect and file these old coins.
The obverse has an uncrowned portrait of King George V. The translation, according to Numista, around the edge of the obverse means George the Fifth by the Grace of God King of all the Britains Defender of the Faith Emperor of India.

Ole' King George was king from 1910-1936. HE was also cousin to a few of the other royals across Europe. One in particular of note was his first cousin, Czar Nicholas II of Russia. I always found it really haunting how much they looked alike.
From what I have read they were also best of friends, so it must have struck him hard when the Czar and his family were killed.

The reverse of the coin has, according to Numista a, Crowned cruciform shields around central Garter star, sceptres in angles, denomination above, divided date below.
This coin has a reeded edge and is 50% silver and weighs 11.31 grams.

I will have a few more to share in the coming days, nothing fancy, but I am still waiting for the better stuff to arrive.
If you have any further information about this coin you would like to add, like historical information I left out or want to correct any I may have gotten wrong, please drop it in the comments.
Thanks for reading,
Joe
