Hi Stackers
Isn't that a great title? Old find new found....
The actual title about this recent find was:
"Amateur historian discovers 600-year-old English coin in Newfoundland"
The coin did this person found was a Henry VI quarter noble gold coin (inted in London during 1422-1447). Now the media immediately added that 1422 is before the first Eurpeans (other then the Vkings much earlier) came to Canada so "there must have been contact before and or earlier!"
Ofcourse this is nonsense. If I go to Canada now with a gold ROman coin and drop it in Newfoundland under a rock does not eman the Romans were in Newfounland! Especially gold coins are for protecting wealth and would be accepted globally alos in the 1600's or whatever period it was with the Frechmen interested in Beavers ;)
The article also says it is a "rare" coin.. let's explore on MA-coin shops:
As you can see below the nobles are offered online and I counted some 20 of them so yes that is quite rare. The price for below quarter gold noble is 3750 pound. A price of a rare coin!
The other funny thing I read on these coins in MA website is that they are minted not only in Lodon but also in Bristol and Norwich. And minted means hammered here!
Oh I love the history of coins! The psot is kept secret so you cannot start to find more!
