The South Africa Krugerrand Antelope Rand Refinery coin design is well known, this one is pure silver. With the 1000% premium, copper rounds aren't for serious stacking, but they're cheap and have a nice shine to them - this one celebrates the Leo Zodiac sign.
The Rand Refinery
The Rand Refinery is recognized as the first world producer of gold bullion coins, with one of the most recognizable Krugerrand designs. It was opened in Germiston, South Africa, in 1920, to maximize the gold presence in the area. Rand is also known for gold ingots and silver coins (Source).
1oz Krugerrand Silver Coin
The Krugerrand is a classic coin design from the Rand Refinery, for their gold bullion, these 1oz Krugerrand coins are .999 pure silver.
The front side of the Krugerrand coin features South Africa's national animal, the Springbok Antelope, prancing to the right. Along the top curve is the text "KRUGERRAND". On the left side of the coin is "20", in the right side is "22", for the mint year of 2022. Along the bottom curve is the text "FYNSILWER 1OZ FINE SILVER R1". FYNSILWER is in the Afrikaans language.
The backside of the coin features the head of Paul Kruger, facing to the left with an impressive neck beard. He was the final president of the South African Republic.
The left upper curve of the backside has the Afrikaans language text "SUID AFRIKA", the right upper curve has the English text "SOUTH AFRICA".
1oz Leo Copper Round
This 1oz Leo Zodiac .999 copper round was minted by a USA company, I'm not sure which one. It is from a Zodiac series of twelve rounds. This one celebrates the zodiac constellation sign of Leo - the front featuring a Nemean Lion, moving to the left and menacing a look forward. Above the lion is the text "LEO", below the lion is the text "July 23 - August 21", the birth dates that fall under Leo. Around the outside of the round are the twelve zodiac symbols separated by stars (Source).
The backside of this round features a yin yang symbol in the center, surrounded by the 12-year Chinese Zodiac animals, with each animal corresponding to full years. The year of the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, boar, and their corresponding years of birth. Along the top curve of the coin is the text "ONE A.V.D.P. OUNCE", along the bottom curve is "COPPER .999 FINE - USA".
The Krugerrand Antelope coin is a well known classic bullion design, a well crafted fine silver round for the stack. Copper rounds aren't for stacking, but I've been enjoying adding them once in a while to the collection, I like the Chinese Zodiac year reference on the back of this Leo round.
