Pirates dominated the seven seas in the 17th and 18th centuries, flying their distinctively frightening black flags to proclaim war on their enemies.
The Perth Mint has released a popular series of coins that each show a well-known pirate and the emblem they are identified with. Blackbeard and Queen Anne's Revenge, Black Bart and the Royal Fortune, Ching Shih and the Red Flag Fleet, and William Moody and the Rising Sun were the preceding entries in this series.

The fifth issue in The Perth Mint's Black Flag series showcases Henry Every's renowned hijacked vessel, the Fancy. Henry Every is referred to as "The King of Pirates" because he orchestrated the most successful pirate raid in history. Every and his crew took home an incredible £600,000 worth of gold and jewelry in one score. Because of the extent of the looting, there was what many believe to be the first-ever worldwide manhunt in history. Unlike most pirates who had to cross the plank, Henry Every escaped despite being the most sought-after person on the globe. Henry Every vanished with his wealth, leaving no trace behind. Henry Every earned him the legendary title as "The King of Pirates."
