The hunt for circulated silver coins
Some months ago I received a few Swiss francs as a gift when I bought some silver and I decided that I would keep an eye out for circulated coins with some silver in them on my local market place. I was mainly drawn to the Japanese coins with their cool designs but mostly found stuff too late.
Except for this 1908 10 Sen from the Meiji Era recently. Thanks to the help from @dbooster I found out the exact data and I'm happy that it wasn't a fake which I thought for a brief moment. Upon searching for some other coins containing silver, I also found this 1 lats coin from 1924.
This coin has 0.835 Silver in it which is nice because it gave me a little taste of the cool sounds of silver change. I only had the Swiss francs until now and I didn't take these out of the cover so far. Now that I got the taste of this sound, I already ordered more old silver coins. Advised by dear @silversaver888. They will be shipped tomorrow he said, so hopefully I have them by the end of the week.
Obverse
My favourite side is the obverse because of the arms and supporters. For some reason it reminded me of the Royal Dutch Lion but I have very little knowledge about it for the rest, it was just a first impression.. In fact, I should look into some Dutch old silver a bit more in the future but for now I'm mainly focused on what I can get my hands on locally.
It's pretty isn't it? I realised it's a century old, how amazing is that? I love that idea and I think it still looks quite good for a coin that age? The way it sounds is what makes me love it even more, lol.
Reverse
Usually there's a less interesting side in terms of design but hey, this will do the trick:
It's not that bad, but I just fancy the other side more..
The edge
Normally I don't pay much attention to the edge as it's not as interesting to me as the rest of the coin. This time I found this note in Numista that there are several varieties of the 1924 1 Lats coin. I shall start counting somewhere this week because I'm curious which variety I have.
I reckon that counting them is a daunting task which can go wrong easily lol. Either way, it's just fun to know and add to the notes.
The waiting game
I received a message from the Spanish Royal Mint that my two ordered coins will be delivered somewhere in the next days. Great! That took so long, it was annoying. And then there's another amazing note on the way from the US, fingers crossed it finds its way home this week too. Last, the US dimes will hopefully find their way home this week as well..
It's really nice to be able to buy some silver more regularly now, it's probably time to make a wish list so that I can keep an eye out for certain coins I would love to have.
Thanks for stopping by, hopefully you had a good weekend!
