The Royal Mint have waved their magic wand once again… and conjured up something rather special for fans of Harry Potter, silver coins, or — like many of us — both.
Just released this week, the 2025 UK Silver Proof 50p – The Patronus is the latest spellbinding addition to The Royal Mint’s officially licensed Harry Potter coin series. This time, it captures that unforgettable moment from The Prisoner of Azkaban where Harry first masters the Patronus Charm — a protective spell conjured from pure positive energy. And in this case, beautifully conjured from .925 Sterling Silver.
The design itself has been carefully remastered by Bella Briggs and officially approved by Warner Bros. It features Harry, wand raised, summoning the Patronus — his stag guardian — with eerie, ethereal energy swirling across the scene in full colour. As a lifelong Potter fan, it’s a truly nostalgic tribute to a pivotal moment in the books and films.

Only 2,500 of these colourised silver proofs will exist worldwide. That’s fewer than most UK proof coins in recent memory, and easily one of the most limited of all the Harry Potter 50ps to date. A handful more will appear in presentation sets, but the individual boxed version — with its official Royal Mint packaging and full-colour artwork — is capped at just 2,500.
The coin weighs in at 8g of sterling silver and measures 27.3mm across — classic 50p specs, but with that proof-quality finish that gives it a mirror-like sheen and razor-sharp detail. It’s got that satisfying heft in the hand and looks seriously good under light.
