Binbir yüzlü bir varoluş şeklini hissettim bugün. Etrafım onun parçaları ile dolu. Ben de onun zihninin bir parçasıyım. Hep değişiyor, yeni eklemler ediniyor ya da bazı uzuvlarından vazgeçiyor. Sürekli bir devinim içinde. Her bir parçasını besliyor ve büyütüyor. Bizim toplamımızdan daha büyük bir dağarcığa sahip. Çünkü önceki nesillerin hafızasını saklıyor. Onları hep gözümüzün önünde tutuyor. Çehresindeki izler işte bu hafızasından günümüze ulaşanlar. Zamanla silikleşse de hafızasının izleri, unutulması nesiller boyu zaman alıyor. Ayrıca kendini oluşturan parçalardan besleniyor. Bizim ruhlarımız ile besleniyor. Onu yaşayan her bir ruhta farklı anlamlara bürünüyor, farklı yüzler takınıyor. Farklılık onu manevi olarak büyütüyor. Bize de aslında büyümeyi telkin ediyor. Bu varoluştan çıkıp başkasına geçmemizi fısıldıyor. Peki nedir bu varoluş şekli? Binbir yüzlü bu varlık şehirdir. Şehir değiştirmek ise insana iyi gelir ve onu büyütür.
Şehir bir bedendir ruhumuza. Her gün yüzümüzü yıkar ve içinde hayat buluruz. İşimiz, evimiz, arkadaşlarımız, duygularımız, umutlarımız, dargınlıklarımız hep şehrimizin caddelerinde, sokaklarında, bahçelerinde ve manzarasında vücut bulur. Git gide alışırız. Zamanla dibe dalarız. Demleniriz adeta. Ama unutmamak gerekir ki kapalı bir döngü içinde uzun süre kalmak, bizi alışkanlıkların neden olduğu bir çeşit hissizliğine sürükler. Aynı pozisyonda uzun süre kalınca bedenimiz uyuşur ya, aynı şekilde ruhumuzu gezdirmediğimiz zaman bu manevi bedenimiz ruhumuza acı verip onu küçültmeye başlar. Yeni bir giysinin getirdiği mutluluğu, yeni bir şehir ile de ruhumuza armağan edebiliriz. Hani tırtıllar kelebeğe dönüşür ya, aynı bunun gibi güzeldir değişim. Beden değiştirmek gibidir, şehir değiştirmek. Bir nevi metamorfoz geçirmektir. Büyümektir, gelişmektir.
Biraz da imkan meselesi tabi ki... Maddi imkan olmayabilir. Ya da hepimizin bir çeşit bağı var. Ama en azından arada sırada da olsa başka bir yerde soluk almak lazım. Temelli bir değişimin de hep fırsatını kovalamalıyız. Nerede yeşereceğimiz belli değil. Bazen bize iyi gelecek o yer ile daha tanışmamış olabiliriz. Ayrıca bir gerçek var ki o da artık hiç terk etmeyeceğimiz tek yerin ancak mezarımız olduğudur.
Şehir değiştirmek eskisini unutmak demek değildir. Eskisinden vazgeçmek değildir. Anılarınla, hafızanla, geçmişine saygı duyarak yaşamaktır. Yeni durumun ve öngörülemez şartların getirdikleri ile kendini daha iyi görür ve tanırsın. Bu yönden de bizi büyütür. Düşünsenize iki şehirlik bir dağarcığınız olduğunu. Sonra belki üç hatta dört. Yazı yazdığım sırada basit bir internet sorgusu ile öne çıkan (başkent veya büyük ölçekli) 47000 adet şehir olduğunu gördüm. Küçük yerleşimleri de ekleyince çok daha fazla... Şehir değiştirmek insana iyi gelir ve onu büyütür. Önümüze kurulan bu dünya sofrasında bizi besleyecek deneyimlerin peşinden gitmemiz gerekir. Bizi büyüten, bizi geliştiren yerleri aramalıyız. Kimliğimizi zenginleştirip, ruhumuzu geliştirecek ve bizi büyütecek farklı deneyimleri ise şehir değiştirerek bulabiliriz.

Today I felt a form of existence with thousand faces. I am surrounded by its pieces. I am a part of its mind. It is always changing, acquiring new joints or giving up some of its limbs. It is in constant motion. It nourishes and grows each of its fragments. It has a larger consciousness than the sum of us put together. Because it stores the memory of previous generations. It always keeps them in front of our eyes. The traces on its face are the ones that have survived from this memory. Although they fade over time, the traces of its memory take generations to be forgotten. It also feeds on its constituent fragments. It feeds on our souls. It takes on different meanings and wears different faces in each soul that lives it. Diversity makes it grow spiritually. It actually inspires us to grow too. It whispers to us to get out of this existence and move into another. So what is this form of existence? This being with a thousand faces is the city. Changing the city is good for us and makes us grow.
The city is a skin for our soul. Every day we wash our faces and find life in it. Our work, our home, our friends, our feelings, our hopes, our resentments are all embodied in the streets, alleys, gardens and landscapes of our city. Gradually we get used to it. Over time we sink to the bottom. We become steeped. But we should not forget that staying in a closed loop for a long time leads us to a kind of numbness caused by habit. Just as our body becomes numb when we stay in the same position for too long, in the same way, when we don't let our spirit wander, this spiritual body starts to hurt and shrink our spirit. We can gift the same happiness that a new dress can bring to our soul with a new city. You know how caterpillars turn into butterflies, just like that, change is beautiful. Changing a city is like changing a body. It is a kind of metamorphosis. It means growing, evolving.
It's a matter of circumstances, of course... It may not be affordable. Or we all have some kind of bond. But we need to breathe somewhere else at least once in a while. On the other hand we should always chase the opportunity for a fundamental change. We don't know where we will flourish. Sometimes we may not have met the place that will be good for us yet. It is also true that the only place we will never leave is our grave.
Moving to a another city does not mean forgetting the old one. It is not about giving up the old. It means living with your memories, your memory, respecting your past. With the new situation and unpredictable circumstances, you can see and know yourself better. In this way, it makes us grow. Imagine that you have a repertoire of two cities. Then maybe three or even four. As I was writing this article, I realized that there are 47000 prominent cities (capital or large-scale) with a simple internet query. Even more including smaller settlements. (source: https://simplemaps.com/data/world-cities) We are currently experiencing only one of them.
Moving to another city is good for you and makes you grow. We need to pursue experiences that will nourish us in this world that is set before us. We should look for places that make us grow and develop us. We can find different experiences that will enrich our identity, develop our soul and grow us by moving to a different city.
