Throughout our lives, we had to leave the cities we lived in, both to complete our university education and to work and pursue a career. This period can be either permanent or temporary. In this process that we are trying to get used to, maybe we get new opportunities or new experiences.
The first time I saw another city from the house we lived in when I was a child was in the fifth grade of primary school. We achieved success by beating all schools in the inter-school volleyball tournament. After that success, I was away from home for the first time with my classmates and teachers to participate in new tournaments from Bartın to Ankara. Of course, the fact that a 10-year-old boy was away from home, even if there was someone with him, brought about different feelings and concerns.
While my parents were evaluating the issue among themselves, I was witnessing these conversations and expressing the feelings of fear and anxiety inside me after every sentence in which my name was mentioned, with the expression on my face. What could it be? everyone was with me on this journey, even my friends, my teachers, even Celil, who was sitting in the same row.
I always told myself this. I should never leave the group. If I have an open stomach, even if I have a toilet, there must be someone with me. Even when I was going to the washroom, someone had to come with me, even if they didn't need it. I should have accompanied them. Although our teachers were interested in the road plan, I should have known where and when to go. In short, I had to do everything the people who took us said. Wait. Don't leave. Not only me, but all my friends should have followed the words of not going anywhere without my permission.
The second time I left home was for my university education. To enroll in Süleyman Demirel University, I had to go to Isparta. This time, my parents didn't even make the same assessment they did for me at that young age. I could sense that they were happy and proud. I had chosen one of the coldest days of autumn for the dormitory and registration procedures. I had put my documents and a few items to snack on the road in my yellow and gray toned backpack that I used all the time in middle school. This time there was no fear or anxiety in me. All I felt was longing.

Yaşadığımız hayat boyunca, gerek üniversite eğitimimizi tamamlamak, gerekse çalışıp kariyer elde etmek için yaşamış olduğumuz şehirlerimizden ayrılmak zorunda kaldık. Bu süre kalıcı olabileceği gibi geçici kısa süreli de olabiliyor. Alışmaya çalıştığımız bu süreçte belki de yeni fırsatlar ya da yeni tecrübelerde elde ediyoruz.
Küçükken oturduğumuz evden ilk defa başka bir şehri görmem ilkokul beşinci sınıfta olmuştu. Okullar arası yapılan voleybol turnuvasında tüm okulları yenerek başarı elde etmiştik. O başarının ardından Bartın'dan Ankara'ya yeni turnuvalara katılmak için, sınıf arkadaşlarım ve öğretmenlerimiz ile birlikte evden ilk defa uzaklaşmıştım. 10 yaşındaki bir çocuğun yanında birileri de olsa evden uzaklaşması elbette ki farklı duyguları ve endişelerini beraberinde getirmişti.
Anne ve babam konuyu kendi aralarında değerlendirirken bu konuşmalara tanıklık etmek ve adımın geçtiği her cümlenin ardından içimdeki korku ve endişe duygularını yüzündeki ifadeyle açıkça belli ediyordum. Ne olabilirdi ki; herkes yanımda arkadaşlarım, öğretmenlerim hatta aynı sırada oturduğum Celil bile bu yolculukta benimle birlikteydi.
Kendime hep şunu söyledim. Gruptan asla ayrılmamalıyım. Karnım da açıksa, tuvaletim de gelse yanımda mutlaka birileri olmalıydı. Lavaboya bile giderken, benimle birlikte ihtiyaçları olmasa bile birileri gelmeliydi. Bende onlara eşlik etmeliydim. Yol planından her ne kadar öğretmenlerimiz ilgilenmiş olsa da nereye ne zaman gideceğimi bilmeliydim. Kısaca bizi götürenlerin her dediğini yapmalıydım. Bekleyin. Ayrılmayın. Benden izin almadan bir yere gitmeyin sözlerini sadece ben değil, tüm arkadaşlarım uygulamalıydı.
İkinci defa evden ayrılışım üniversite eğitimim için olmuştu. Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesine kayıt olmak için, Isparta'ya gitmem gerekiyordu. Bu kez anne ve babam o küçük yaşta benim için yaptıkları değerlendirmeyi yapmamışlardı bile. Mutlu ve gururlu olduklarını sezebiliyordum. Yurt ve kayıt işlemleri için, sonbaharın en soğuk günlerinden birini seçmiştim. Ortaokulda sürekli kullandığım sarı ve gri tonlarındaki sırt çantama evraklarımı ve yolda atıştırmak için bir iki malzemeler koymuştum. Bu sefer içimde korku ve endişe yoktu. Hissettiğim sadece özlemdi.
