Peace to all fellow members of the StarterKitDAO community. As an experienced user on the base layer, HIVE, and as a member of StarterKitDAO that wants to see its success, I decided to put together some posting guides for those new to community hub here at StarterKitDAO.com.
Creating a web3 hub for SKD on the HIVE blockchain provides countless ways to leverage an active network and build with other active communities and developers in the ecosystem. @starterkitdao has only scratched the surface with the content presented so far so be sure to follow the main page and keep an eye out for more content.
Posting Guide Pt 1 - Some tips to hit the ground running 🏃♂️
- If you have already made a post and want to make some edits, you have 7 days from the posting date to make any changes before that content is permanently stamped on the blockchain. Reason being, that is the payout period (how many days a post can earn before payout). When payout occurs, it is stamped. So again, feel free to make any edits before the payout period is over. To see how many days are left on a particular post, just hover over the current earnings and a popup will appear like below.

- Limit traditional hashtags in your post. They don't hurt, but the algorithm here does not respond to them like we're used to in web2, so a bunch of hashtags just taints your post appearance more than anything else. I personally would use 3-5 tops, if any.
- After making an intro post, spend a little time engaging. One tip that has proven effective in multiple communities when trying to grow an account is making at least 4-5 comments for every post that you make if you plan on posting regularly. So a 4:1 ratio of comments to posts.
Think about it...if you make a quality post and then make a genuine comment on 4-5 posts here in SKD (or another community with content that resonates with you), you're likely to get a mix of comment upvotes, followers, and new eyes on your posts which usually leads to more upvotes. - If you're interested in being active in other communities and dApps here's an easy way to find content that interests you.
Go to https://peakd.com/communities. (To keep it brief, PeakD is the most user-friendly way to interact and track your activity on the base layer, which is HIVE.) Once there, enter the niche of content you're searching for. In the example below I searched "art" and got a list of all the art communities:
A good rule of thumb when looking for the active communities is finding those that have a least 1,000 members. - Make sure you download the HIVE Keychain browser extension. This is the most user-friendly way to plugin to all the dApps and communities built on top of the HIVE blockchain.
- "Don't rush to make posts" doesn't mean "don't post". We just want everyone to be in the best position to succeed and grow within the community. Having an understanding of the platform will allow you to have a smooth transition from web2 to web3, especially if you're already a content creator.
- Source all images that aren't yours. It is important that the images used in the posts are also copyright free, or at least it's fair use (even though there are cases where there is no other way, like in movie reviews, videogames, books, etc,). This is because they will be potentially monetized, and it's like using other's people work to earn money. A quick way to do this is
[SOURCE](image URL address). If you don't source your images the AI will let you know. Check out this test post to see an example of the AI at work https://starterkitdao.com/hive-139307/@hiveangelists/wiz-khalifa-is-da-bomb. Scroll to the comments and you'll see the hivewatcher bot activated since the image from the post wasn't sourced, and the image is the primary piece of content. Also, sourcing content does not remove any copyrights.

*Sidenote, images can be inserted by link through the posting toolbar but also by a simple copy and paste command with the imaged placed in the text.
Limit traditional hashtags in your post. They don't hurt, but the algorithm here doesn't respond to them like we're used to in web2, so a bunch of hashtags won't help. I personally would use 3-5 tops, if any.
Short Form (twitter style) post are welcome but are better utilized when posted using one of the short form dApps like d.buzz. To post short form content usind DBuzz that appears on SKD you would actually use the #starterkit or #starterkitdao hashtag in your text (unlike 3Speak where they have a seperate box for that). Also, you can post to Twitter and DBuzz simultaneously by using this button:
A recent twitter post (below) from fellow community member @marshamcfly is a prime example of an instance to take advantage of the DBuzz twitter feature.
The posting toolbar is your friend. For easy formatting to make your posts more visually appealing, you definitely want to utilize the toolbar. There's also a markdown guide there for further formatting (highlighted below)
If you already have original YouTube content (preferably recent) that aligns with StarterKitDAO take advantage of the feature that allows you to embed YouTube videos by simply inserting the link anywhere in your text. You will then see the video in your post preview. Here's a vid I created a few years back covering my favorite coinmarketcap.com alternative, Messari:
To embed this video all I had to do was copy and paste the YouTube share link. The YouTube feature is great and should definitely be utilized, but if you want more support, engagement, and potential earnings use the https://3speak.tv/ platform. This is HIVE's decentralized version of YouTube.
Uploading video content here that shows up on StarterKitDAO is simple. Once you log into 3Speak with your HIVE account (and an email to prevent bots/spam) and navigate to upload ("Upload Video"), scroll down in your text box until you see "Tags". Here you want to type "starterkit" or "starterkitdao" Unlike YouTube, once you post video on 3Speak it lives on the blockchain forever.Since you own your account you can't be censored from the base layer so you may post whatever you please. But be aware, each individual community has their own posting guidelines, so if your posts aren't in line with vision of the community, your account can be muted from that particular community front end. This isn't censorship. Imagine creating a sports community and accounts keeps posting content about politics or poetry...not a good look. Or even better, imagine someone is upset they aren't earning like others and just make posts complaining...spamming the chain. So with that in mind, these are safeguards that have been developed over time to prevent abuse and keep the content niched out across the ecosystem.
If you aren't familiar with the posting guidelines here on SKD check out the rules on the home page. Also here's the spill directly from the community Discord:
StarterKitDAO posts are usually tutorials, journalism, recaps, reactions, and reviews. The point of these posts are to educate, update, or premiere. Your content can range from video, photo, audio, and text. If you want to post short form content there are other sites within our network where you can login with the same wallet and engage...Your first post: Your first post should be a formal introduction to the whole network so feel free to tell your story and provide any video or links that have.
- In closing, these are just tips to increase your chances of better growth and earnings within the ecosystem as a whole.
Be on the lookout for part 2 soon where I'll be sharing more resources and tips!
