Bonding with friends through adventures is another way of escaping the realm of sadness and pressure that we face in our lives. I met people with the same vibes I have, whether traveling or nature-tripping. We all love going to the beach, setting up our tents, and enjoying the sunset – and there are times when we also get to wait for the sunrise. It was one of the things we like to do together, aside from the drinking session we often plan.
A getaway with a few pals can be another memory to keep. Since I shared our obsession with the beach, my friends and I decided to go on overnight on the shore of Pundaquit in San Antonio, Zambales.
The place is popular among some tourists and other people in the neighboring towns of San Antonio. We had to ride a tricycle to get there. Because we planned to spend the whole night in the area, we packed up enough of our things, from camping tents to kitchen utensils. However, we made sure to keep our baggage light.
We got there around 5 PM, and it was almost nighttime when we were done setting up our tents. My partner and I brought our tent for privacy; the others also had their own. It was not too hard setting up since we have experience doing it. We were the only people on the spot we chose, so we decided to keep our tents close to each other – to be ready for anything that might happen overnight.
Since we packed uncooked foods, we had to look for a spot for the grilling session. We bought hotdogs, chicken, and a few fish as our viand. One of us volunteered to bring the rice cooked already. We needed to be mindful and resourceful at that time because we lack in some kitchen utensils, like a grilling pan.
My partner knew what to do, so he got us two large rocks and told us the strategy for successful grilling. The girl in the picture is my best friend, who insisted on cooking as we prepared the area where we would have our dinner.
When everything was set, we had dinner together and enjoyed the moment while having conversations. As you can see in the picture below, we ate using our hands because we forgot to bring spoons and forks. But I was still thankful that my friends were not too meticulous. Even with the lack of some things, we still enjoyed the food. One thing that also added up was the sound of waves.
While eating, my partner insisted on taking a picture of us. Since we were on the beach, you can see us wearing something that shows a little bit of our skin. Can you spot the bonfire we made? It was around the corner, and it kept the night warm. Plus, it served as our light. The sea gave us a cold breeze, so we moved closer to the bonfire while eating.
And after a few minutes, we had our drinking session. The fun started when we shared stories and talked about life. Honestly, the experience will not be great without a few shots of alcohol. It was our way of getting the conversation to continue.
We had to go with the flow the whole night, but what made it more impressive was when the stars showed up. We took the chance to lay down on the sand and stare at the sky – enjoying and appreciating the beauty of what we have. While some of us continued stargazing, some started making S’more. We were just there enjoying the moment until we went inside our tents to have some sleep.
We woke up around 5 AM, the right time for a swim. The waves were calm, and the water was warm. My friends and I took the chance to let the seawater touch our skin and hug us early in the morning. We had so much fun swimming while waiting for the sun to go up.
It was also the time when a few people started to show up. Some brought some coffee, and some went there with their bikes. We realized that people also crave the beach in the morning, which may be calming for them.
When the sun was finally up, we had to pack up because one of us needed to go home for her online class. It was a great time, and I look forward to more beaches overnight. Every bonding will be worth it and memorable if done with amazing people too. I hope you find time to do this as well!
