I take all internet gear reviews with a grain of salt, and I hope my readers do the same with my work. That said, there are a few I think are reasonably reliable. One such reviewer is the Youtuber who goes by "Wranglestar." He has beat the crap out of a lot of tools, and exposed a lot as sensationalist garbage. He also seems reasonably knowledgeable about bushcraft, so if he says Harbor Freight got something right, I'm willing to give it a try.
I paid $12.99 + theft sales tax, and I took a little time examining what was on the shelf to pick the one that seemed to have the best fit and finish. All the handles were a bit different from one another, as befits any real natural product, and the one I chose had no big gaps where it fit into the head and a nice swell in the handle at the top for a better grip.
I have yet to re-profile the blade and refinish the wood as shown in the video above. That might happen tomorrow. I may need to buy some boiled linseed oil first, though.
