I used to have a rod and tackle box. They vanished at some undetermined point in the past decade. I have picked up a few things from time to time, but this month I finally began to rebuild in earnest.
Some of the tackle at the sporting goods store seems designed more to hook anglers than fish. Some of the logos are flashy, others cheesier than a block of cheddar.
I bought the bobbers because I thought they might be a good fit for the Altoids Tin survival kit. It should work after I rearrange things a bit. Some kit lists advise a birthday candle instead of a tealight, so that would save a lot of space, too. I also plan to replace the tangle of heavy line with the thinner, stronger braided line pictured above. Perhaps I'll even assemble a couple leaders. After some experimentation, there will probably be a proper update on that project.
I also have an assortment of lures I picked up at various post-season sales in years past. The box is a Dollar Tree container like the ones I use for war game miniature bitz and jewelry-making supplies. The old box containing some of this stuff bore the logo of a NASCAR team that must not have done well that season.
I don't yet have a proper fishing pole, but this telescoping rod by Shakespeare is better for my backpacking plans anyway, and I have a fairly compact Cetus LF500 reel for it, too.
The fillet knife is a prototype I bought several years ago from the Buck Knives factory store in Post Falls, Idaho. In all honesty, fit and finish are not especially good, but then again, it's not production-ready anyway. It's just an odd curio, unless someone out there thinks it's worth something, in which case I won't part with it for less than 1 BTC! I think it was an experiment with wood scales on a blade intended for a synthetic hilt, and I think the original would be better in general.
I plan to keep things fairly streamlined with this kit. Many a tackle box is loaded with lots of bulky, useless crap in my observation, so while I will likely need to expand a bit, I do want to keep it all backpackable... is that even a word?
