A number of good posts have been written on how to fill a bug out bag. This post addresses a few additions to the first aid kit in your bug out bag.
Small containers to limit weight are best:
These three items are usually overlooked.
They are lavender oil, comfrey tincture, and Carmex.
The lavender oil is the best thing for burns. Rolled onto a blister, the pain will be gone in minutes, and the blister will be gone in a day. It is good for treating headaches, when rubbed on the temples. It is also a good insect repellent.
Comfrey tincture is a healing accelerator, and will heal a bruise overnight. It is effective on brown spider bites, and per the reading also works on rattlesnake bites (thankfully I haven't needed this). Since it is 50% alcohol, it will also disinfect a wound. Muscle damage will also heal Fast, with this rolled on where it hurts. It should not be used on a puncture wound; since it will heal the skin over, and cause an abscess underneath!
The Carmex is intended for chapped lips, but works well on any skin difficulties. Covering a tick, will force them to back out in order to breathe. It also can be used as waterproofing, to fix leaky seams.
All three of these items can be used on a cotten ball or tinder to help start a campfire. Multiple uses for bug out items increase their usefulness.
