TODAY'S TOPIC:
MAKE A COVENANT WITH YOUR EYES
BIBLE TEXTS:
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should l think upon a maid" (Job 31:1).
KEY VERSE:
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18).
CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
Check what you see and guard your daily responses.
THE MESSAGE:
The eye is one of the five windows through which we receive information into the body. Psychologists assert that we can only remember 10% of what we hear, but 30% of what we see. Based on the findings of experts, it behooves every reasonable person to both guard what he sees and also check his responses to what he sees.
Job had all it takes to have many women around him but he made a covenant with his eye not to look or think on a young woman. This was unlike Solomon and unlike many men today. You may not have 100% control of what you see, but you may have absolute control over your response to what you see. With the fruit of the Holy Spirit called temperance in Galatians 5:23 it is possible to responsibly respond to what you see.
Brethren, the eye is a major gateway to most sins. Lust, fornication, adultery, greed, envy, drunkenness and many others begin from seeing. Eve's disobedience began when she saw that the tree was good for food (Gen 3:6). Dinah's rape began when she went out to see the city of Shechem (Gen 34:1, 2), Achan's theft that brought the death of his entire family began by seeing (Josh. 7:1). David's adultery and the concomitant sins began when he saw a naked woman bathing (2 Samuel 11: 2). The unbelief that brought the death of the ten spies and many other Israelites in the wilderness began by wrong interpretation of what they saw (Num. 13:31-33).
What do you see and how do you respond to it? "For all that is the World, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever" (1 John 2:16, 17). Have a mastery of yourself; never give the flesh all the eyes see.

CALL TO SURRENDER:
If you would like to surrender your life and will to Jesus, say this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I come to You a sinner. I ask that You forgive my sins. I accept You my heart as my Lord and personal saviour. Thank you for saving me, in Jesus' name. Amen.
