Hello summoner.
Today, I want to share my experience playing in Frontier mode — the mode that really forced me to think strategically instead of relying on my card collection. What makes it unique is that everyone uses the same pool of cards. So it’s not about who owns the rarest or most powerful monsters, but who can craft the smartest strategy. And honestly, that’s what makes it so fun. It feels like starting from scratch — but everyone else is starting from scratch too.
One of the most exciting moments I had recently was when I got hit with the Earthquake ruleset in Frontier. If you’ve played long enough, you know how terrifying that is when your team doesn’t have flying monsters. The twist? In the Foundation deck, almost no basic-level monsters can fly. You’d only get flying after leveling them up — and unfortunately, I hadn’t reached that point yet.
So how do you survive an earthquake that chips away 2 damage per round to all non-flying monsters? That’s where my trusty combo from the Earth element came into play!
My Go-To Formation for Earthquake
I usually run these three monsters:
1. Dread Tafarian

This one’s the star of the show. With his Heal ability, he can restore 2 HP to himself every round. He starts with 6 HP and has 1 armor, which means the first round of earthquake damage gets absorbed by the armor. And since healing kicks in at the end of the round, he stays steady through the shaking. But I don’t place him in front — and there’s a reason for that. My strategy is all about delaying the damage.
2. Spellmonger

Think of this guy as the decoy in round one. He doesn’t have any attack, but he does have Thorns, which reflects damage back to any melee attacker. I place Spellmonger at the front. So when enemies strike, they take damage in return. And if they don’t have magic attackers, Spellmonger can hold the line for a while — softening up enemy armor before going down.
3. Lunaki Howler

As my magic attacker, Lunaki Howler goes in the backline. Her job is simple: deal consistent damage, especially if the enemy is using Dread Tafarian too. Since magic attacks bypass armor, she’s perfect for pressuring the opponent.
The Turning Point
I’ll be honest — the first round was tense. My Spellmonger fell, but that was all part of the plan.
In round two, the Earthquake really started to hurt — everyone’s armor was gone. My Dread Tafarian, sitting safely in the middle, still had 7 HP, while my opponent’s Tafarian, placed up front, was already down to 3 HP. That was the turning point.
Round three — my Dread Tafarian moved to the front. My opponent only had an archer left. With 2 HP healing per round, my monster could completely neutralize the Earthquake’s damage. The ground kept shaking, but Tafarian stood firm… and I walked away with the win.

Final Thoughts and Tips
One key takeaway from this match: sometimes a simple combo of healing + delay + spell damage can outperform teams that rush to throw their tank up front. Monster placement is crucial, especially in special rulesets like Earthquake.
Here's the golden lesson:
Understand the ruleset, and build your formation around it — don’t just throw your strongest cards on the board.
Frontier mode is perfect for learning this because everyone has the same tools. It’s all about how smartly you read the situation and combine your monsters’ abilities.
This match taught me that victory doesn’t always come from brute strength — but from strategy and positioning. Cards like Dread Tafarian, Spellmonger, and Lunaki Howler might not look overpowered on paper, but when played at the right time, in the right way, they can win you the battle.
So if you’re jumping into Frontier and Earthquake shows up — try this lineup. It’s not just solid, it might give you the edge over opponents who only think about offense, not survival.
Good luck and see you in the arena, Summoners!
