I did not know what to expect when I found this video entry by @yuli-27 Vibes Web3 Music Competition Week 38. However, when she was singing and I listened to her words of a prayer, Espirado Santo, la venome (this means Sprit Holy, fill me), I was moved. Being a Nigerian woman who understands what it is like to endure difficult seasons, I saw her song as one that I have prayed many times in my heart.
Her voice struck me the moment the video began. Nor was it loud or dramatic, but soft, and full of peace. She sang deliberately, taking her time about it, so that every word went into the heart. Although it was the Spanish language that she used as the major language of the song, she also incorporated English portions as well. This assisted me to track the message in an easy way. She had a clean, relaxed and emotional voice. It might make you think that she did not sing because of any competition but because she believed in every word.
I really liked one thing about her entry, and this is its authenticity and candor. She did not apply some special effects and costly backgrounds. The video was raw. Her voice only, her face and her heart. To me, that was more than enough stage compared to a catchy stage. There is a simplicity at times which produces the best worship. It has nothing to do with show-off, it has to do with connecting with God, and that is what she did.
@yuli-27 revealed her life in describing her video. She told me that she has been experiencing very terrible days. In the midst of that though, she did not fail to sing and praise God. It is powerful just on that alone. This is something that I have never forgotten that she said, and that is: We know that there is a God who raises our spirits every day. That was a self-evident statement, and yet so true. It brought to mind that there is always a way that God will support us even when we are so weak.
I know being a Nigerian woman it can be hard at times. We experience having obstacles, we feel ignored, and we even feel that we are not doing enough. @yuli-27 has something similar too; she felt unnoticed and never being picked like other contestants in the competition. However, she did not let those emotions hold her back though, and she went on to submit her song. That takes guts. Such power. That is belief. And I respect her on that.
It is a humble reminder that regardless of what we may be experiencing at any given moment we are supposed to invite the Holy Spirit to enlighten us and to be with us. In this noisy world that is distracted more than it is focused, her song was like fresh air, a calm, peaceful, God centered one.
I also liked the fact that she did not force herself to disguise or mask her emotions. She was honest, helpless and loved God. There are times when the most powerful worship is said by a less than flawless voice but heart bent on praise. That is what I found in her entry.
To sum up, the video entry of @yuli-27 to the Vibes Web3 Music Competition Week 38 is simply beautiful. It pulled at my heart and it reminded me of the significance of being near God even when life is difficult. All her voice, all her story, all her faith combined to bring something powerful. I think her song can bless a lot of people as it blessed me.
