I'm not a big fan of "random dungeon queue" system not existing. For those not aware, later on in WotLK they added a way for people to queue for a random dungeon, either normal or heroic, where you pick what role you'd play and it would automatically queue and teleport you to the dungeon when it found a group for you. This meant you saved time being able to teleport to and back from the dungeon automatically where you were when you queued and on top of that if you did the random one you got bonus xp. While there's good and bad things about it, one of the bad things being that it all became so stale and "inhuman" according to many, i.e. you just queued for random dungeon, got your daily tokens for having finished it and back out, most of the times you didn't need to interact or socialize with anyone else or make your way to the dungeon, use summoning stones to summon the rest of the group to the entrance, etc. On top of that it becoming easier and easier to play the game it just sort of gave it a more "auto" feel to it, most players doing everything on automode, etc.
However, if you don't have that much time, are in a PVP realm where open-world PVP exists, a lot of players all leveling up through quests and taking your mobs, killing you if you took their mobs, etc, the random dungeon finder system would have been your friend. I personally still like that it doesn't exist early on cause it makes the leveling a bit harder and more worth an accomplishment once you get to max, but at the same time this time around, about 15 years later or so, I find myself busy with a lot of things in my day to day to bother questing and running around handing in things from one NPC to another.
So what did I do instead? I happened to find a place that for one reason or another gives you infinite mobs to kill around the same spot. My theory is that since it's a quest, there needs to be at least few mobs existing which means they are forced to spawn rather than waiting the normal timers most have as to once you kill a certain mob, it won't respawn until a certain amount of time has passed. This was not the case in this spot, so here's a recording of me doing some aoe grinding and farming on my paladin.
Note the "Titan Panel" addon at the top shows my current xp/hour which has definitely been a lot faster than me trying to solo TBC dungeons or doing "xp runs" of WOTLK dungeons.
Apologize for the video ratio, forgot to turn my game into the normal size before recording.
While unfortunately I was already a bit too high level for this place and found it accidentally doing a quest on this side of Northrend, I think it's a great place for any AOE class just starting out WOTLK or maybe having leveled all the way and hitting 68 to get here. As long as you can maintain your HP and mana up you're able to constantly be killing something without needing to run around and look for new mobs which is usually the case in most other places which makes this xp/hour impossible. Unless you're really great at questing and have a epic flying mount at level 77+.
I decided to google if there were other spots similar to this and found a video by someone who had made a top AOE grinding spots in WOTLK, thankfully he hadn't mentioned my spot or I would've felt like I didn't find anything. He did however show me another spot more appropriate to my level and even better, more appropriate for my class, the Paladin. The reason this spot is better for my Paladin is due to the mobs being farmed being undead which means I can use a certain spell that does a big AOE attack every 30 seconds or so and stuns everything around me for 3 seconds. This makes the killing even faster, them being higher level yields me more xp and similar to my place these also seem to be forced to spawm and exist a certain amount at any given time thus allowing you to farm it as fast as you can.
Okay dunno what's going on with youtube lately, but these videos are not supposed to be 4k, the quality definitely isn't, lol.
Note that this place is a bit difficult to find, you enter a museleum and have to go straight until you hit a wall, then there will be a hole in the wall on the right side (I missed it first time I got there and had to look around once more). You pass that cave full of roots and then get to the spot.
It seems quite a few other people have found the same video I did as they were there as well but doesn't seem like it meant there'll be less mobs for everyone as long as there aren't too many other players. Over a longer period of time I managed to get to a constant 450k xp/hour here, with the Wintergrasp 5% xp buff up. This means at level 75 it should take me roughly 3 hours to level up which is a lot faster than my questing and dungeon experience.
Another cool thing about these is that it's quite "automode", as a paladin there's not often a chance that you'll die as your abilities keep healing you unless you overpull a few times too often in a row. Thus you can sit back, farm on automode while watching Netflix or maybe listening to a podcast and not really being there. :P
I'll try looking for another spot for once I hit 76-77 but for now I think I'm gonna stick around to this spot for a while longer.
