There are many kinds of party games out there, some for cooperative, other competitive, but the most effective ones for having buddies to play with are those that are simple to pick up and play, yet can turn into an absolute mess between the crazy of the game and shouting over each other for the chance of victory. Duck Game is a game that excels on being a must-have for anybody with friends as it succeeds tremendously in this goal, specially as it is one of those rare cases with 8 player support.
With a retro throwback presentation of crispy sprites and Genesis-style music, the game can be digested quickly with a simple premise and controls: You can jump, grab things, fire with weapons, quack (which is...exactly what it sounds like) and even ragdoll (pretending that you're dead). Anything you can grab can be thrown, and hitting someone else with anything that wouldn't kill them will make them drop their weapon. This means that having a prop or a weapon out of ammo still can be useful to disarm another player.
The variety of weapons is what really sells the experience: guns, rocket launchers and lazers need no explanation, but grenades have to be used to start a countdown and throw them before they explode on you, some weapons have bouncy bullets or need to be reloaded, there's a weapon to catch others in nets to dispose them in any way you wish (either by using another weapon or just picking up and throwing them at spikes, lava or outside the map), there are some few that do nothing (instruments and flower)...and there's even a gun that will kill you if you don't notice that the cannon is facing at you.
The map variety is also on point: With several visual themes, big maps with a lot of weapons and space to play around, small maps that force you to act fast, and most premade maps come with a specific gimmick or set of weapons. Maps with net cannons with spike or lava pits to get rid of others, maps with the amazingly broken pirate sword, maps where there's a blue shotgun hidden or behind a door (this shotgun having infinite ammo), and so on. However, there are also randomly generated maps (which always have a specific brown temple setting), as well as the option to download custom-made maps and make your own.
This is definitely one of the best games for parties ever, as the controls are snappy enough to understand yet the weapons and maps can flip everything on their head; the aforementioned ragdoll/play dead button is also an incredibly cheeky yet valid tactic in pretending to be dead (since any player killed stays on the map). I've actually used that tactic some few times and caught off-guard the last survivor out of a round, basically winning points by pulling off the Undertaker trick! 😂
(There is a way to know if there's someone playing dead or not outside of just shooting at the bodies to make sure, but you might eventually notice how by yourself 😉)
With a huge variety of maps, weapons, and unlockable hats (yes, this game has hats) along with a set of Single Player challenges and online support, this is one game that's a blast to play with friends no matter what. It also has a modding scene which adds even more weird weapons and such, so you know that these crazy matches could be even more crazy! In any case, I'd recommend anybody to grab their buddies, put this game on and have a real ducktastic day. You won't regret it.

Hay muchos tipos de juegos para fiestas, algunos cooperativos y otros competitivos, pero los más efectivos para jugar con amigos son aquellos que son sencillos de coger y jugar, pero que pueden convertirse en un absoluto desastre entre la locura del juego y los gritos por la posibilidad de victoria. Duck Game es un juego que destaca por ser imprescindible para cualquier persona con amigos, ya que cumple con creces este objetivo, especialmente porque es uno de esos raros casos con soporte para 8 jugadores.
Con una presentación retro de sprites crujientes y música al estilo Genesis, el juego se digiere rápidamente con una premisa y unos controles sencillos: Puedes saltar, agarrar cosas, disparar con armas, graznar (que es... exactamente como suena) e incluso hacer ragdoll (fingiendo que estás muerto). Cualquier cosa que puedas agarrar puede ser lanzada, y golpear a otra persona con algo que no la mate hará que suelte su arma. Esto significa que tener un accesorio o un arma sin munición aún puede ser útil para desarmar a otro jugador.
La variedad de armas es lo que realmente vende la experiencia: las pistolas, los lanzacohetes y los lazers no necesitan explicación, pero las granadas hay que usarlas para iniciar una cuenta atrás y lanzarlas antes de que te exploten, algunas armas tienen balas que rebotan o necesitan ser recargadas, hay un arma para atrapar a otras en redes para deshacerse de ellas de la forma que quieras (ya sea usando otra arma o simplemente cogiéndolas y lanzándolas a pinchos, lava o fuera del mapa), hay algunas pocas que no hacen nada (instrumentos y flor). ... e incluso hay un arma que te matará si no te das cuenta de que el cañón está orientado hacia ti.

Con una gran variedad de mapas, armas y sombreros desbloqueables (sí, este juego tiene sombreros), junto con un conjunto de desafíos para un solo jugador y soporte en línea, este es un juego que es una explosión para jugar con amigos sin importar lo que sea. Además, cuenta con una escena de modding que añade aún más armas extrañas y demás, ¡así que ya sabes que estas partidas locas podrían ser aún más locas! En cualquier caso, recomiendo a cualquiera que coja a sus amigos, se ponga este juego y pase un día realmente ducktástico. No os arrepentiréis.
