Happy new year!
A few things happened so I didn't show up with these news earlier, but I finally got to finish the game, wahoo.
But before I get ahead of myself talking about that, I have to mention how I finished the Hero Story since the last time I talked about the game.
Echidna mans up and punches the ghosts out
When I picked up the game again, being back at Death Chamber, I decided to just take a breath and test with the big ghost at the center if they were...punchable.
Those stitched face ghosts will turn into the big eyed, toothy smile agressive ones if you punch them...but guess what.
Punch them enough and they will disappear. So punching my way into rooms and ghosts was my approach to get rid of those pestering things once and for all - finally getting Death Chamber done.
DIE MONSTER, YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS WORLD
And the boss right after it, King Boom Boo, didn't have the same creepy effect as the other ghosts, so I just used the knowledge I had from many years ago of it and...basically kept running back and forth until the little ghost with the clock let up, punch it, and chase the big ghost hiding in shadow to dig it up then punch again.
Rinse and repeat until it's gone. That was the last level of Hero Story involving ghosts, so that was that the silly fear finally defeated for good.
To summarize how the last bit of Hero Story went:
- Did one last Knuckles level in space at Meteor Herd[and a scuffle with Rouge I'll detail later becuase it repeats in Dark Story]
- A Tails level hovering around space and then fighting Eggman again after he sent Sonic to explode in a capsule [yes, he does that, but he gets better]
- And two Sonic levels where one involves a funky gravity flipping mechanic through the level [Crazy Gadget], then the last one where Sonic has to go through many floating rails in space [Final Rush].
You'd be surprised how many times I died at Final Rush because of messing up how to handle rails, losing speed and falling off fight after 😅
But at the end, I went into one last faceoff against Shadow, defeated him after a few minutes, and saved the day by jamming the cannon using the fake Chaos Emerald, or something.
It is funny that the game just ends without much conclusion after Sonic does that, but that is intentional...as once the credits finish rolling, you get an advertisement for the Dark Story and how you play as the bad guys.
So...
Taking on the egg-shaped shoes: Dark Story time
That's right, if you somehow didn't know already, Sonic Adventure 2 has this Dark Story mode where you play as the counterparts of the classic Sonic trio: Shadow the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman himself, and the treasure hunting Rouge the Bat.
But guess what, the one you'll have your hands on the most for this story is none other than Dr. Eggman, the antagonist of practically every other Sonic game up to that point, as he breaks into the base of G.U.N. to obtain a super secret weapon...which ends up being none other than Shadow himself.
After Shadow does a small boss fight to escape, then Rouge's first level appears - fairly simple at a first glance...but had me walled for a few minutes when one emerald shard was hidden inside a place I didn't get how to reach yet - as the only hint was to hold on a turtle but said turtle only let me switch between two different areas.
...Until I started swimming around the second area to see if I was missing something and noticed that there was ANOTHER turtle that I could hold on to and actually get where I needed to go. Whoops.
Okay, now let's go back to Egg-
...I think he will get better out of that.
IS THAT SHADOW'S...wait, no, that is just Shadow.
And as the cutscene before his level starts, with a vague flashback of this child named Maria and then wishing revenge for her, we finally get Shadow's first level of the game. Yes, it is the fourth level of the Dark Story instead of the first - I told you Eggman was taking the spotlight more than the hedgehog's new rival himself.
But what a first impression Mr. Hot Topic does in his debut level.
Radical Highway is pretty fitting of not only be considered iconic from this game alongside City Escape and Metal Harbor, but also fitting of Shadow himself when he's willingly crushing through G.U.N. forces on the highway, with industrial music playing on the background and...interestingly enough on second thought, the level itself having a lot of black and red colors like Shadow himself.
As he continued on his path of revenge- wait a minute what is he doing in the Chao Garden.
IS THIS THING HOPPING?
...That's adorable. I think it's even the first time I see a Chao do that out of nowhere.
That's Orville by the way - giving him a few more animals made his eyebrows be replaced with that thing on the forehead, but I'll definitely talk about what continued to be with the Chao once I'm done talking about the Dark Story.
So I go back to Rouge- wait isn't this just a variant of Death Chamber-
Anyways, probably what baffled me here wasn't even having a variant of Death Chamber appear early in in Dark Story, but more so this one emerald- I mean key [I forgot why we're getting keys here] that's hiding around this particular place of the wall for some reason.
Back to Eggman, we're now at Lost Colony, which admittedly feels pretty cool for a level, between the interaction with the enemies flowing better than usual and the colony itself being surprisingly dark in visibility when you aren't blowing up robots.
Cool to finally play this level in the original game it came from after racing on it at a different game altogether many months before revisiting Sonic Adventure 2.
Oh, hey, more free targets to combo at Weapons Bed! And Amy confusing Shadow for SONIC THE BLUE HEDGEHOG [his face is too funny though]. And fighting Tails as Eggman. Yippee.
Oh well, while Eggman did that distraction, Rouge's getting the Chaos Emeralds out of a vault - I've sometimes heard horror stories about Security Hall but I don't think it can be that bad.
Oh hey, it isn't being that bad - I'm running a bit thin out of time by the time I need to find the third Emerald, but nothing too bad-
Whoops, I died twice in this level [like, literally - got hit by enemies without rings instead of running out of time].
But hey, just two attempts to get it done, and keeping the emeralds and timer when you die after each one you collect was pretty nice. Although that's also my luck having me find those with enough spare time...as I can guess that you're actually screwed if you die after finding the first or second emerald with not enough time to even get the third unless you restart the whole level.
But uh-oh, after a small fight with an enemy boss, Rouge gets trapped in the vault while the island is set to explode by Eggman. However, the result of this is that we finally get another Shadow level - and a really cool one. Yippeeeeeee.
Shadow also gets the Light Dash upgrade here, so that's more routes open in a few other levels [as well as being able to finish this one]. I have to say that I've always really enjoyed White Jungle's theme - I don't know how to put it into words but besides fitting so well with Shadow running through a foggy jungle trying to rescue someone before the island explodes, I just enjoy the way the song sounds like.
And somehow got an A-Rank in this stage on my first visit, too. No continues, just running through the end and being surprised with being told that I did really well 😄

Bye Sonic.
After Shadow having another flashback of Maria, and Rouge letting Eggman know where the last Emerald is [Tails has it], Rouge heads off to the highway again. Yay, another driving section- WAIT THERE ISN'T A WALL OVER THAT TURN AHHHHHH
Surprisingly enough, we go into yet another Shadow level, Sky Rail - one that's also cool to play through, but has been theorized by some players that may have been intended for Sonic instead, between the more rock-styled theme that would fit a Sonic stage more than Shadow...and how Sonic was seen in it in a few pre-release trailers.
But anyways, cool rail level. Made me less nervous than Final Rush.
Something I forgot to mention in the starting Hero Story summary is that after Knuckles defeats the big ghost, Sonic has to fight Eggman's Egg Golem - a fight where you got to climb up to its weak point with rocks on its back.
But in Dark Story, this fight summarizes gameplay vs plot diffences: Sonic just leaps off and does a flying kick against the Golem's weak spot, instantly defeating it as the controls are broken.
Then Eggman starts insulting the Golem. And now it wants to fight YOU.
I died a few times to this, but it is as straightforward as shooting the weak spots with the normal gun and then locking in the exposed weak spots until it explodes.
Okay, now we're thrown as Rouge into Mad Space, which is noticeably larger in vertical space and has you traverse through planets with rockets. And the hints are kind of screwed up.
I played the game with a Retranslated Hints mod [and also a Retranslated Subtitles mod to play with the Japanese voice over - which is why some lines might read different in the screenshots], so these probably were more useful than what they were in the original game, but it was funny how the first hint is spelled backwards, the second hint is a lie, and the third one is a [it's absolutely not in that place] type of hint that is also a lie 😅
On the flipside, it somehow took me just around 5 minutes because, while I spent a good while going upwards trying to find the second emerald as I was hinted towards, I accidentally ran into the third emerald early.
While the emerald radar only goes from one to another when you get the piece before it, you CAN run into shards out of order if you are extremely lucky - which was the case when I found the third emerald shard casually floating in a planet I arrived at.
One fight against Knuckles later, where they fight for the Master Emerald...but eventually Rouge lets Knuckles have it, almost falls over the lava and Knuckles rescues her. This fight and cutscene is basically the same in both stories but with different music, which is why I only really detailed it here instead of doing so earlier.
This leaves me with the final stage of the Dark Story, Final Chase, which is similar to Sonic's Final Rush but with more emphasis on spinning gravity platforms rather than rails. And I somehow found Shadow's Mystic Melody here by accident.
And now, once again, the final showdown between Sonic and Shadow...but you're Shadow now.
You basically run in this long straight, being able to use the Light Dash to speed ahead if falling behind thanks to the ring lines that constantly appear, as you try to hit your enemy until it decides to not bounce you back.
One thing I skimmed over earlier is how Sonic DID get thrown into a capsule to explode in space, but in the Hero Story, he uses the Chaos Control with Tails's fake emerald he had to escape. So while Shadow could naturally do that since the beginning and he uses it to reappear on the front whenever he falls behind here, Sonic does the same...but it's somehow cooler to hear him yell CHAOS CONTROL to fight back.
Although it may be funny to see if you, for some reason, played Dark Story first and didn't even know how Sonic survived and what is he doing to use Chaos Control.
Anyways, pot meets kettle, Dark Story completed. Shadow fulfilled his revenge mission of enabling the cannon to fire and cause havoc on earth, Eggman seems like he's going to rule the world now through wielding the cannon in his hands...and Rouge earlier on was outed to be a government spy, but she is allowed to leave as she can't interfere anymore [but gets away with details of the ultimate lifeform...which doesn't seem to look like Shadow?].
But it also ends before we see anything truly happen - woah what is this?
Well, that's from the advertisement the game has included for the Last Story.
If you somehow didn't know already, this game had that awaiting once you completed both Hero and Dark Story, which is the entire reason why both endings felt like they abruptly ended - they weren't the true ending to the story.
Time for the Last Story
While I didn't get a proper clearance on which version of the events lead up to this [whether Sonic jammed the cannon succesfully or if Eggman did get the cannon to try firing], it seems that the canon finale was Eggman...actually attempting to fire the cannon?
Because what this story begins with is Eggman questioning why the cannon refuses to fire.
And then...something happens. Something programmed within the cannon causes it make it fall, with the plan of it CRASHING ON EARTH AND DESTROYING IT.
There's definitely quite the interesting spin with why all of this even happens, but I'll leave it in a spoiler tag in case you wish to watch the cutscenes or play the game yourself:
! [Hidden Spoiler Text] So...yeah. Eggman's grandfather shows up out of nowhere, and declares a death sentence on everyone with the programmed fall of the colony the moment the emeralds were activated.
He not only had made that giant cannon as well as Shadow, but also had programmed a few fake memories for him to engage in revenge for what happened to his granddaughter, Maria.
Long story short...50 years ago, G.U.N. was called to erase anyone related to that project and retain Gerald. And that's why Maria got shot. Therefore, he went insane and set the colony to crash whenever the emeralds were placed into it. And mind you, those are recordings of him, as when his message is ending, it is implied with the guards speaking at the end...but also confirmed by Sonic X's japanese dub, that he GETS EXECUTED after the recording.
So yeah, that is a long dead man wishing death on the planet for the loss of his granddaughter...by having a plan saved in the colony to destroy it. One that Eggman accidentally happened to trip upon without knowing.
But even without any of the deep story details...a space colony crashing into earth is BAD, even for Eggman [he only wanted to rule Earth, not DESTROY it]...so they actually team up together for the last stage of the entire game, Cannon Core.
Tails and the leap of faith
Tails is the first character in the stage, and while his section is relatively short while introducing the time stopping switches, there's this bit where you need to hover down to that door, lock-in and explode those two dynamites, and land inside when the door opens.
Before you fall into the pit. Because if you don't break the door open in time, you won't be able to land inside the room. And there is NOTHING to save you down there, so it is a mandatory stunt you have to do to continue the level.
Eggman and the moving blocks
Eggman's section is longer, having one checkpoint halfway through and adding a fun addition to the time switches: Having to use them to stop moving blocks in their way in order to use them as platforms at certain moments.
There's also this area where you can use it to fall upon a rapidly moving platform safely. And I bring it up because not only I died to this fall trying to guess the landing without knowing the switches were there, but also I realized afterwards that I could just...start hovering when I'm about to reach the open area right into where I have to go without even bothering with the platforms.
Rouge and the water draining switch
Just a pro tip: It is NOT in this hole. You'll die if you jump into it thinking it leads anywhere.
I spent a few minutes going around trying to find the switch to open up a path, but I eventually found a time switch that allowed me to go through a waterfall blocking a path, which led up to a little section where I had to time the time switch press for blocks getting in the way to leave me an opening to get inside and hit the switch that opens the capsule, going back and hitting the water drain switch inside the capsule.
Knuckles and the lack of infinite breathing room
So...if you enter this section without knowing that Knuckles has an infinite breathing upgrade, you'll have a bad time.
Putting aside that I was misguided on my first attempts of where I was even meant to go [I hadn't looked into the area blocked by a time switch at the start] and that there's a free 1-up capsule at the bottom of the flooded area, traversing through this section without the upgrade only seems doable after enough practice, knowing exactly where to go and where to grab the bubbles to be able to survive underwater.
But if you aren't willing to repeat Cannon Core MULTIPLE times just to keep trying this section, then the alternative is simple...just look up where to get the upgrade and get it.
That's what I did when not only it is hidden in Aquatic Mine [more ghosts? no thanks], but also as I didn't want to spend much time looking, I looked up the exact location through a video...and saw how specific of a hiding place it was. It's kind of ridiculous how well hidden an upgrade that is so useful for THE FINAL STRETCH OF THE GAME is.
But when you have the Air Necklace and figure out where to go, it isn't much of a hassle beyond avoiding the enemies and swimming fast enough to get through a specific area with time switches.
Sonic and the last little cheeky trick to go
Another case of a section that isn't too rough when you've learned the ropes already, but doing so is likely going to take you several tries when there's not only a little bit where you have to jump into an enemy and back to the platform where you stand as there is nowhere to land otherwise [Omochao DOES warn you of this...but be real, when do you usually listen to Omochao in Sonic levels?], but also this water/sand slide that suddenly throws you into a different camera angle...and will kill you if you think you're meant to just let yourself slide further off it.
When you know all of that though, it is only a matter of bouncing into the time switches and climb up the slide fast so that you're taken on the actual proper slide, which looks eerily familiar to the one at Lost World in Sonic Adventure. But at least, that is all what it takes to finally finish this multi-character gauntlet.
And no, Shadow isn't here, he isn't ready to help others save the world. Yet.
Shadow and remembering the promise properly
Amy shows up and asks Shadow to help. He doesn't want to at first, but then Amy's insistence makes him remember what his lost friend Maria actually wanted him to do. To give the people at Earth a chance to be happy.
So...he spent the whole game trying to do something she actually didn't wish to see him do until he actually remembered that properly [thanks Amy].
With that proper resolve, and how Sonic and Knuckles get ambushed by this gigantic lizard said to be a prototype of the ultimate lifeform, Shadow decides to finally give the rest a hand and handle the giant monster himself.
Shadow VS The Biolizard
Don't know someone went from this gigantic thing to a hedgehog, but oh well, the weak target is clearly at the top of that oversized turtle's back. But you'll have to jump or somersault/roll over the attacks it does until it leaves itself open to grind on the things it has attached to the mouth right up to the weak spot.
Damage it enough and will start using these orbs to attack you whenever it is vulnerable, but you can homing attack on those to get to the weak spot as well.
When the thing is on its last legs, it will do the orb thing again, but will also make you float while the orbs rotate around its weak spot. You can either risk going into it asap or wait a bit for some orbs to go away to try approach it, but you only can take two hits at most in this moment as rings will be out of your reach once you get hit once.
Don't screw that up, and that's the boss fight done. Not EXTREMELY complex but surprisingly competent for a Sonic boss fight when you have to not only use your reflexes to dodge the energy bal attacks correctly, but also weave through the orbs in the final attack carefully when you no longer have the [get hit, pick up ring] safety net at that point.
...Too bad the lizard didn't actually die and Chaos Control'd into fusing with the colony.
But you know what comes now. And I have screenshots of this moment, but there is nothing like actually watching it in motion as you should.
You know there is only one thing left to do at this point.
Oh, shit, I died.
...
No problem, entering Last Story again at this point will take you back to this fight. So, even if you don't get it done the first time, you are NOT to give up at this point.

And...that was Sonic Adventure 2.
Conclusion
You may be asking about something particular that I never brought up again of the game...
...What happened to the Chao?
Well, Shadow went back to the Chao Garden, of course.
You thought that you wouldn't keep any Chaos Drives you got from Cannon Core? But anyways, the screenshot below is from midway through the Dark Story, but hey, I gave Orville enough yellow Chaos Drive items for it to learn to swim properly. He won the first two Crab Pool events - the first one with ease [he was the only one who could swim] and the second one with some cheering on while managing his stamina.
Whenever I feel like playing more Sonic Adventure 2, either because of going for completing more missions of single levels [because there's 5 missions per level beyond just completing it on the first mission, like getting 100 rings andor finding a lost Chao] or just trying to give Ponche more attention again when I gave all the stuff I picked up to Orville instead to have him eventually evolve as the Dark Chao.
But in any case, while I remember having played segments of this game many years ago as a kid, most likely through a full save file I downloaded off somewhere, this is the first time I can say and write down without a shadow of a doubt that I played through and completed Sonic Adventure 2.
Finally getting this done for good after having watched the third Sonic movie at December 30th, and more so when I remember playing it a lot as a kid in the Gamecube but never completing it was certainly something to have closure on.

Echidna agarra coraje y golpea fatasmas
Cuando retomé el juego, estando de vuelta en Death Chamber, decidí tomarme un respiro y probar con el gran fantasma del centro si eran... pegables.
Esos fantasmas de cara cosida se convertirán en los agresivos de ojos grandes y sonrisa dentada si les das un puñetazo... pero adivina qué.
Pégales lo suficiente y desaparecerán. Así que me abrí paso a puñetazos entre las habitaciones y los fantasmas para deshacerme de una vez por todas de esos bichos molestos y acabar por fin con la Cámara de la Muerte.
Y el jefe justo después, King Boom Boo, no tenía el mismo efecto espeluznante que los otros fantasmas, así que simplemente usé el conocimiento que tenía de hace muchos años de él y... básicamente seguí corriendo de un lado a otro hasta que el pequeño fantasma con el reloj se soltó, le di un puñetazo, y perseguí al fantasma grande escondido en la sombra para desenterrarlo y luego darle otro puñetazo.
Aclara y repite hasta que desaparezca. Ese fue el último nivel de Hero Story que involucra fantasmas, por lo que fue que el miedo tonto finalmente derrotado para siempre.
Para resumir cómo fue la última parte de Hero Story:
- Hice un último nivel de Knuckles en el espacio en Meteor Herd [y una pelea con Rouge]
- Un nivel de Tails revoloteando por el espacio y luchando de nuevo contra Eggman.

Es curioso que el juego termine sin mucha conclusión después de que Sonic haga eso, pero es intencionado... ya que una vez que terminan de rodar los créditos, aparece un anuncio de la Historia Oscura y de cómo jugar como los malos.
Así que...
Tomando los zapatos con forma de huevo: Hora de la Historia Oscura
Así es, por si de algún modo aún no lo sabías, Sonic Adventure 2 tiene este modo Dark Story en el que juegas como los homólogos del trío clásico de Sonic: Shadow the Hedgehog, el mismísimo Dr. Eggman y la cazatesoros Rouge the Bat.
Pero adivina qué, a quien más tendrás en tus manos para esta historia no es otro que el Dr. Eggman, el antagonista de prácticamente todos los demás juegos de Sonic hasta ese momento, ya que irrumpe en la base de G.U.N. para conseguir un arma supersecreta... que acaba siendo nada menos que el propio Shadow.
Después de que Shadow hace una pequeña lucha contra el jefe para escapar, entonces aparece el primer nivel de Rouge - bastante simple a primera vista...pero me tuvo emparedado durante unos minutos cuando un fragmento de esmeralda estaba escondido dentro de un lugar al que aún no sabía cómo llegar - ya que la única pista era agarrarme a una tortuga pero dicha tortuga sólo me dejaba cambiar entre dos zonas diferentes.
...Hasta que empecé a nadar por la segunda zona para ver si me estaba perdiendo algo y me di cuenta de que había OTRA tortuga a la que podía agarrarme para llegar a donde tenía que ir. Ups.
Y como la escena antes de su nivel comienza, con un vago flashback de esta niña llamada María y luego deseando venganza por ella, por fin tenemos el primer nivel de Shadow en el juego. Sí, es el cuarto nivel de la Historia Oscura en lugar del primero - ya os dije que Eggman estaba acaparando más protagonismo que el propio nuevo rival del erizo.
Pero vaya primera impresión que da el señor Hot Topic en su nivel de debut.
Radical Highway es bastante apropiado no solo para ser considerado un icono de este juego junto a City Escape y Metal Harbor, sino también para el propio Shadow cuando está aplastando voluntariamente a las fuerzas de la G.U.N. en la autopista, con música industrial de fondo y... curiosamente, pensándolo bien, el propio nivel tiene muchos colores negro y rojo, como el propio Shadow.
Mientras continuaba su camino de venganza... espera un momento, ¿qué está haciendo en el Jardín Chao?
¿ESTA COSA ESTÁ SALTANDO?
...Eso es adorable. Creo que es la primera vez que veo a un Chao hacer eso de la nada.
Ese es Orville, por cierto -dándole algunos animales más hizo que sus cejas fueran reemplazadas por esa cosa en la frente, pero definitivamente hablaré de lo que siguió siendo con el Chao una vez que termine de hablar de la Historia Oscura.
Así que vuelvo a Rouge- espera no es esto solo una variante de Death Chamber-
De todos modos, probablemente lo que me desconcertó aquí no fue que apareciera una variante de la Cámara de la Muerte al principio de la Historia Oscura, sino más bien esta llave esmeralda [olvidé por qué estamos recibiendo llaves aquí] que puede terminar debajo de una pared específica por alguna razón
Volviendo a Eggman, ahora estamos en la Colonia Perdida, que hay que reconocer que mola bastante para ser un nivel, entre que la interacción con los enemigos fluye mejor de lo habitual y que la propia colonia es sorprendentemente oscura en visibilidad cuando no estás reventando robots.

Oh bueno, mientras Eggman hizo esa distracción, Rouge está sacando las Chaos Emeralds de una bóveda, a veces he escuchado historias de terror sobre el Security Hall pero no creo que pueda ser tan malo.

Aunque también es mi suerte que las encuentre con suficiente tiempo libre... ya que puedo adivinar que en realidad estás jodido si mueres después de encontrar la primera o segunda esmeralda sin tiempo suficiente para conseguir siquiera la tercera a menos que reinicies todo el nivel.
Pero uh-oh, después de una pequeña pelea con un jefe enemigo, Rouge queda atrapada en la bóveda mientras la isla es puesta a explotar por Eggman. Sin embargo, el resultado de todo esto es que por fin tenemos otro nivel de Shadow, y uno muy chulo. Yupiii.
Shadow también consigue la mejora Light Dash aquí, así que hay más rutas abiertas en otros niveles [además de poder terminar este]. Tengo que decir que siempre me ha gustado mucho el tema de White Jungle. No sé cómo explicarlo con palabras, pero además de encajar tan bien con Shadow corriendo por una jungla neblinosa intentando rescatar a alguien antes de que explote la isla, simplemente me gusta cómo suena la canción.
Y de alguna manera conseguí un rango A en esta fase en mi primera visita. Sin continues, sólo corriendo hasta el final y sorprendiéndome con que me dijeran que lo hice realmente bien 😄.
Después de que Shadow tenga otro flashback de Maria, y Rouge le diga a Eggman dónde está la última Esmeralda [Tails la tiene], Rouge se dirige a la autopista de nuevo. Sí, otra sección de conducción.
Sorprendentemente, nos adentramos en otro nivel de Shadow, Sky Rail, uno que también mola jugar, pero que algunos jugadores han teorizado que podría haber estado pensado para Sonic, por el tema más rockero que encajaría más en un escenario de Sonic que en uno de Shadow... y por cómo se vio a Sonic en él en algunos tráilers previos al lanzamiento.
En cualquier caso, el nivel sobre raíles mola. Me puso menos nervioso que Final Rush.
Algo que olvidé mencionar en el resumen inicial de Hero Story es que después de que Knuckles derrota al gran fantasma, Sonic tiene que luchar contra el Egg Golem de Eggman, una lucha en la que tienes que trepar hasta su punto débil con rocas en la espalda.
Pero en Dark Story, esta pelea resume las diferencias entre jugabilidad y trama: Sonic simplemente salta y da una patada voladora contra el punto débil del Golem, instantáneamente derrotándolo ya que los controles están rotos.
Entonces Eggman empieza a insultar al Golem. Y ahora quiere pelear contigo.
He muerto unas cuantas veces con esto, pero es tan sencillo como disparar a los puntos débiles con el arma normal y luego bloquear los puntos débiles expuestos hasta que explote.
Bien, ahora nos lanzan como Rouge en Mad Space, que es notablemente más grande en el espacio vertical y te hace atravesar planetas con cohetes. Y las pistas están un poco raras.
He jugado al juego con un mod de pistas retraducidas [y también con un mod de subtítulos retraducidos para jugar con la voz en off en japonés, por lo que algunas líneas pueden leerse de forma diferente en las capturas de pantalla], así que probablemente sean más útiles que en el juego original, pero es curioso ver cómo la primera pista está escrita al revés, la segunda es una mentira y la tercera es una pista del tipo [no está en ese sitio] que también es mentira 😅
Por otro lado, me ha llevado unos 5 minutos porque, aunque me he pasado un buen rato yendo hacia arriba intentando encontrar la segunda esmeralda como me habían sugerido, me he topado por casualidad con la tercera esmeralda antes de tiempo.
Aunque el radar de esmeraldas sólo pasa de una a otra cuando consigues la pieza anterior, PUEDES toparte con estas fuera de orden si tienes mucha suerte, como ocurrió cuando encontré la tercera esmeralda flotando casualmente en un planeta al que llegué.
Una pelea contra Knuckles más tarde, esto me deja con la etapa final de la Historia Oscura, Final Chase, que es similar al Final Rush de Sonic pero con más énfasis en plataformas de gravedad giratorias en lugar de rieles. Y aquí encontré por casualidad la Melodía Mística de Shadow.
Y ahora, una vez más, el enfrentamiento final entre Sonic y Shadow... pero ahora tú eres Shadow.
Básicamente corres en esta larga recta, pudiendo usar el Light Dash para acelerar si te quedas atrás gracias a las líneas de anillos que aparecen constantemente, mientras intentas golpear a tu enemigo hasta que decida no rebotarte.
Una cosa que omití antes es cómo Sonic SÍ fue lanzado a una cápsula para explotar en el espacio, pero en la Historia del Héroe, usa el Control del Caos con la esmeralda falsa de Tails que tenía para escapar. Así que mientras Shadow podía hacer eso de forma natural desde el principio y lo usa para reaparecer en el frente cada vez que se queda atrás aquí, Sonic hace lo mismo... pero de alguna forma mola más oírle gritar CHAOS CONTROL para contraatacar.
Aunque puede ser gracioso verlo si, por alguna razón, jugaste primero a Dark Story y ni siquiera sabías cómo sobrevivió Sonic y qué hace para usar Chaos Control.
En fin, la sartén por el mango, Dark Story completado. Shadow cumplió su misión de venganza al permitir que el cañón se disparara y causara estragos en la Tierra, Eggman parece que va a gobernar el mundo ahora blandiendo el cañón en sus manos... y Rouge antes fue descubierta como espía del gobierno, pero se le permite irse ya que no puede interferir más [pero se escapa con detalles de la forma de vida definitiva... que no parece parecerse a Shadow...].
Pero también termina antes de que veamos nada realmente sucede - pero...
Si de alguna manera no lo sabías ya, este juego tenía esa espera una vez que completaste tanto la Historia del Héroe como la Historia Oscura, que es toda la razón por la que ambos finales se sentían como si terminaran abruptamente - no eran el verdadero final de la historia.
Hora de la última historia
Aunque no he podido aclarar qué versión de los hechos llevó a esto [si Sonic atascó el cañón con éxito o si Eggman consiguió que el cañón intentara disparar], parece que el final canónico fue Eggman... intentando disparar el cañón?
Porque esta historia comienza con Eggman preguntándose por qué el cañón se niega a disparar.
Y entonces... algo sucede. Algo programado dentro del cañón hace que lo haga caer, con el plan de que Caiga sobre la Tierra y la destruya.
Definitivamente hay un giro muy interesante con el por qué de todo esto, pero lo dejaré en una etiqueta de spoiler en caso de que desees ver las escenas o jugar el juego por ti mismo:
! [Texto oculto del spoiler] Así que... sí. El abuelo de Eggman aparece de la nada, y declara una sentencia de muerte para todos con la caída programada de la colonia en el momento en que las esmeraldas fueron activadas.
No sólo había fabricado ese cañón gigante al igual que Shadow, sino que también le había programado unos recuerdos falsos para que participara en la venganza por lo ocurrido a su nieta, María.
Larga historia corta... hace 50 años, el G.U.N. fue llamado para borrar a cualquiera relacionado con ese proyecto y retener a Gerald. Y por eso le dispararon a María. Por lo tanto, se volvió loco y configuró la colonia para que se estrellara cada vez que las esmeraldas fueran colocadas en ella. Y ten en cuenta que son grabaciones suyas, ya que cuando termina su mensaje, se da a entender con los guardias que hablan al final... pero también lo confirma el doblaje japonés de Sonic X, que él ES EJECUTADO después de la grabación.
Así que sí, es un hombre muerto hace mucho tiempo deseando la muerte al planeta por la pérdida de su nieta...teniendo un plan guardado en la colonia para destruirlo. Uno con el que Eggman tropezó accidentalmente sin saberlo.
Pero incluso sin detalles profundos de la historia... una colonia espacial que se estrella contra la Tierra es MALO, incluso para Eggman [él sólo quería gobernar la Tierra, no DESTRUIRLA]... así que forman equipo en la última fase de todo el juego, Cannon Core.
Tails y el salto de fe
Tails es el primer personaje de la fase, y aunque su sección es relativamente corta mientras introduce los interruptores que detienen el tiempo, hay una parte en la que tienes que planear hasta esa puerta, bloquear y explotar esas dos dinamitas, y aterrizar dentro cuando se abra la puerta.
*Porque si no rompes la puerta a tiempo, no podrás aterrizar dentro de la habitación. Y no hay NADA que te salve ahí abajo, así que es una proeza obligatoria que tienes que hacer para continuar el nivel.
Eggman y los bloques móviles
La sección de Eggman es más larga, tiene un punto de control a mitad de camino y añade un divertido añadido con los interruptores de tiempo: Tener que usarlos para detener bloques móviles en su camino y así poder usarlos como plataformas en ciertos momentos.
También hay una zona en la que puedes usarlo para caer sobre una plataforma que se mueve rápidamente de forma segura. Y lo saco a colación porque no sólo morí en esta caída intentando adivinar el aterrizaje sin saber que los interruptores estaban ahí, sino que también me di cuenta después de que podía simplemente... empezar a planear cuando estoy a punto de llegar a la zona abierta justo hacia donde tengo que ir sin ni siquiera molestarme con las plataformas.
Rouge y el interruptor de drenaje de agua.
Pasé unos minutos dando vueltas tratando de encontrar el interruptor para abrir un camino, pero finalmente encontré un interruptor de tiempo que me permitió pasar a través de una cascada bloqueando un camino, que me llevó a una pequeña sección donde tuve que cronometrar la pulsación del interruptor de tiempo para que los bloques que se interponían me dejaran una abertura para entrar y golpear el interruptor que abre la cápsula, volviendo atrás y golpeando el interruptor de drenaje de agua dentro de la cápsula.

Dejando a un lado que en mis primeros intentos me equivoqué sobre adónde tenía que ir [no había mirado en la zona bloqueada por un interruptor horario al principio] y que hay una cápsula 1-up gratis al fondo de la zona inundada, atravesar esta sección sin la mejora sólo parece factible tras la suficiente práctica, sabiendo exactamente adónde ir y dónde agarrar las burbujas para poder sobrevivir bajo el agua.
Pero si no estás dispuesto a repetir el Núcleo del Cañón MÚLTIPLES veces sólo para seguir intentando esta sección, entonces la alternativa es simple... sólo busca dónde conseguir la mejora y consíguela.
Eso es lo que hice cuando no sólo está escondida en la Mina Acuática [¿más fantasmas? no gracias], sino que además, como no quería perder mucho tiempo buscando, busqué la ubicación exacta a través de un vídeo... y vi lo específico que era el escondite. Es un poco ridículo lo bien escondida que está una mejora tan útil para LA ETAPA FINAL DEL JUEGO.
Pero cuando tienes el Collar de Aire y averiguas por dónde ir, no es muy complicado más allá de evitar a los enemigos y nadar lo suficientemente rápido para atravesar una zona específica con interruptores de tiempo.
Sonic y el último truquito descarado para terminar
Otro caso de una sección que no es demasiado dura cuando ya te has aprendido las cuerdas, pero hacerlo probablemente te lleve varios intentos cuando no sólo hay un trocito en el que tienes que saltar hacia un enemigo y volver a la plataforma en la que estás ya que no hay donde aterrizar de otra forma [Omochao SÍ te advierte de esto. ...pero sé realista, ¿cuándo sueles hacer caso a Omochao en los niveles de Sonic?], sino también este tobogán de agua/arena que de repente te lanza a un ángulo de cámara diferente... y te matará si crees que simplemente debes dejarte deslizar más allá de él.
Sin embargo, cuando sabes todo eso, solo es cuestión de rebotar en los interruptores del tiempo y subir rápido por el tobogán para que te lleven al tobogán propiamente dicho, que resulta inquietantemente familiar al de Lost World en Sonic Adventure. Pero, al menos, eso es todo lo que hace falta para acabar por fin con este guantelete de varios personajes.
Y no, Shadow no está aquí, no está listo para ayudar a los demás a salvar el mundo. Aún.
Shadow y recordando la promesa correctamente.
Amy aparece y le pide ayuda a Shadow. Él no quiere al principio, pero entonces la insistencia de Amy le hace recordar lo que su amiga perdida María realmente quería que hiciera. Dar a la gente de la Tierra una oportunidad de ser feliz.
Así que... se pasó todo el juego intentando hacer algo que ella en realidad no deseaba verle hacer hasta que recordó eso correctamente [gracias Amy].
Con esa resolución adecuada, y cómo Sonic y Knuckles son emboscados por este gigantesco lagarto del que se dice que es un prototipo de la forma de vida definitiva, Shadow decide finalmente echar una mano al resto y encargarse él mismo del monstruo gigante.
Shadow VS El Biolizard
No sé alguien pasó de esta cosa gigantesca a un erizo, pero oh bueno, el objetivo débil es claramente en la parte superior de la espalda de esa tortuga de gran tamaño. Pero tendrás que saltar o dar volteretas/rodar por encima de los ataques que haga hasta que se deje moler con las cosas que tiene pegadas a la boca justo hasta el punto débil.
Dáñalo lo suficiente y empezará a usar estos orbes para atacarte cada vez que sea vulnerable, pero también puedes atacar en ellos para llegar al punto débil.
Cuando la cosa esté en las últimas, volverá a hacer lo de los orbes, pero también te hará flotar mientras los orbes giran alrededor de su punto débil. Puedes arriesgarte a ir hacia él lo antes posible o esperar un poco a que desaparezcan algunos orbes para intentar acercarte, pero sólo puedes recibir dos golpes como máximo en este momento ya que los anillos estarán fuera de tu alcance una vez que te golpee una vez.
No la cagues y ya está el combate contra el jefe hecho. No es TAN complejo, pero sí es competente para un combate contra un jefe de Sonic, en el que no solo tienes que usar tus reflejos para esquivar correctamente los ataques de los balones de energía, sino también entrelazarte con los orbes en el ataque final con cuidado cuando ya no tienes la red de seguridad [recibir un golpe, recoger el anillo] en ese momento.
...Lástima que el lagarto no muriera de verdad y se fusionara con la colonia.
Pero ya sabéis lo que viene ahora. Y tengo capturas de pantalla de este momento, pero no hay nada como verlo realmente en movimiento como es debido.

Tal vez preguntes por algo en particular que nunca volví a mencionar del juego...
...¿Qué pasó con los Chao?
Bueno, Shadow volvió al Chao Garden, por supuesto.
¿Pensabas que no te quedarías con ningún Chaos Drive que obtuvieras de Cannon Core? De todos modos, la captura de pantalla de abajo es de la mitad de la Historia Oscura, pero bueno, le di a Orville suficientes Chaos Drive para que aprendiera a nadar correctamente. Ganó las dos primeras pruebas de la Piscina Cangrejo: la primera con facilidad [era el único que sabía nadar] y la segunda con algo de animación mientras gestionaba su resistencia.
Cuando me apetezca jugar más a Sonic Adventure 2, ya sea por ir a completar más misiones de niveles sueltos [porque hay 5 misiones por nivel más allá de completarlo en la primera misión, como conseguir 100 anillos y/o encontrar un Chao perdido] o simplemente por intentar volver a prestarle más atención a Ponche cuando en su lugar le di todas las cosas que recogí a Orville para que evolucionara eventualmente como el Chao Oscuro.
En cualquier caso, aunque recuerdo haber jugado a partes de este juego hace muchos años cuando era niño, probablemente a través de un archivo de guardado completo que descargué de algún sitio, esta es la primera vez que puedo decir y escribir sin ninguna duda que he jugado y completado Sonic Adventure 2.
Después de haber visto la tercera película de Sonic el 30 de diciembre, y más aún cuando recuerdo haberlo jugado mucho de niño en la Gamecube pero nunca haberlo completado, era sin duda algo con lo que cerrar el círculo.
