You knew this was coming. In fact, I straight up mentioned in my last post talking about NES Mega Man, as by the time I made that post, I already had done the lap around MMX2.
So, what does this game do that gained the love of many, being considered one of the highest three next to X1 with an incredibly solid debut and X4 being the highest in quality of the PS1 entries between gameplay and love for the presentation?
Easy: It doesn't fix what's broken. If we were to make it a comparison game, it doesn't scramble the formula of basic progression [X5], doesn't throw random changes at you [X6], and doesn't have some hidden gotchas for the item game [X3].
But it is better to appreciate this game when you see what it managed to keep well from X1 along with what actually it managed to improve from it.
Funnily enough, my first two stages visited went horribly wrong - was trying to go for a certain pickup at Wire Sponge's level but in the wrong way so I died three times into spikes like an idiot, and then I was also folded in half by the first time fighting Overdrive Ostrich in years with only a single heart upgrade and not getting quite yet how to defeat him properly in that area.
So it was only when I went into Flame Stag's level where I could get my first victory against a Maverick, then got folded by Morph Moth once [ironic when Flame Stag's weapon is Moth's weakness...but I was trying to do all eight mavericks buster-only like in X1 so I ignored it] and then I got to defeat Overdrive Ostrich.*
Describing in-depth the rest of the stuff would be more of a play-by-play description of the game...which would extend this way further than how long it already is, so I'll instead go into those highlights of mine I wanted to bring up from my run
DISCLAIMER: There will be mentions of where a few of the upgrades and secrets of the game are in this post. If you'd like to play this game first, then I would recommend you to really go do it...it took me four hours to get everything without a guide [well, almost everything without a guide] but it is possible with patience and ingenuity.
But if you don't mind or already have more than played through this game already, then go ahead:]
Used to the Buster? Good, because you'll like it more here
This game feels more balanced in regards to how you can use the X-Buster for levels and bosses, most noticeably the bosses.
The harder ones aren't as much of a puzzle or pinpoint precision game as Sting Chameleon or Armored Armadillo if doing it buster-only, but they obviously can give you a good challenge you'll need to stay alert for. Using the weapons against them can help, but if you were to do it buster only [which I did for this, again], then it would still be fairly doable.
On the other hand, the easier bosses may be easier to predict and play with if you don't use their weaknesses.
One case is Wheel Gator, where the Strike Chain does more damage to it but loses you time overall because EVERY hit with it will make Gator go down into the swamp and force you to wait. Using the charged buster to attack him will not instantly make him do that every time, so you can hit him a few more times for each time it sticks out of the mud.
The other case is Bubble Crab: May look intimidating at first with a bubble shield and little crabs at the top of the water...but there is a very silly exploit that can be done easily with the buster.
! [Hidden Spoiler Text] If you jump over it, it will extend its horns then jump to try ramming you vertically.
...and it will do that EVERY time, so you can basically jump over him repeatedly to keep him doing the same thing while you hit him on the way down each time.
Using the weakness against Bubble Crab felt less reliable because when hit by it, it would instead bumrush you and use the horns attack whenever you jumped over it. I think that you can do the same strategy, but you have to react faster as the crab will go straight into you as soon as you hit it with the weapon.
But overall, bosses are balanced with the buster, and bosses are also balanced without the buster, as most only take some extra damage from their weaknesses instead of flinching for an easy stunlock combo like with Spark Mandrill, although the weapons are still pretty useful to attack them if they aren't cumbersome to attack with [or if they don't make the fight longer like Strike Chain vs Gator].
One thing I haven't mentioned though is the Buster Upgrade: Instead of a third charge that does an extra point of damage, it gives you the ability to charge TWO buster shots, and using both bypasses the usual boss invincibility frames...which means you do some good damage through it, making it even more useful for bosses than usual.
Experiencing a blind scavenger hunt
I spent four hours when I played this because, again, I didn't use any guides beyond looking up the final super secret technique after I had everything else [as you DO need EVERYTHING else obtained for that]...so I spent quite a good while trying to figure out some things that looked out of reach, or even funnier, focusing on the wrong hint when the thing I looked for was ahead without any cryptic hints to be able to spot lol
Two stories I can talk about this blind scavenger hunt process would be:
The first one was with the Bubble Crab Sub-Tank: In one area where you normally just to left to right in a LARGE underwater section, I was trying to find where the one item I could have missed was, and after several minutes I started trying to jump high to see if the suspiciously high ceiling for that area had a reason to be.
And at some point while trying, I saw a little ledge appear up at one moment. That's where I started thinking there HAD to be something up there, but for some reason whatever I was doing to try and jump high wasn't even high enough to show me there actually were a few platforms to reach the suspicious ledge that had the culprit item.
So I started trying several charged weapons to see if any of them helped in some way [I thought I had chosen the right weapon out of the box...but turns out I was just trying every weapon]...
And Bubble Crab's weapon was the one that did the trick.
That was the big gotcha moment I had got there because it is quite the specific idea you have to try, but as soon as you can tell that Bubble Crab's charged shot gives you extra jump height underwater while active, you can now more easily get to those high moving platforms and catch the sub-tank.
But the second moment is what I would consider an even greater gotcha moment...if I hadn't just stumbled into it by a freak accident of attempts at trying to make something happen in an area that I was completely clueless on how to reach otherwise.
This was Morph Moth's health upgrade, the last item I needed to find to have everything on board as I had already got the rest, but every time I revisited the stage, I came up empty handed as there were no more extra hidden passages to find.
The Item Tracer, which most players write off as useless in reviews...mainly because if you already DO know where they are then it is [and it doesn't track EVERY secret - that Bubble Crab tank I mentioned before doesn't get caught by it], was actually the only hint I had of where the item was, as I kept using it throughout the stage to no avail...
...Until I tried using it somewhere around the start and did this.
I had never thought on it because I didn't see a way to get there, but now the game was flat out telling me that was the place. But at first it seemed really weird because no abilities allowed me to get a double jump over there, and a second horizontal air dash wasn't useful when my only jump didn't get me there vertically.
So I started trying weapons to see if, I don't know, something happened. This one weapon doesn't do anything, this one doesn't either, no, no, no, no- WAIT WHAT
And that's how I casually and accidentally discovered that Crystal Snail's weapon actually can freeze enemies in blocks.
THAT is how you can make yourself a platform to get to that ledge. I had often neglected using the weapons in X2 as they didn't have the same raw multihit power that Storm Tornado or Fire Wave in X1 did, but this was the one case where the developers had such a sneaky feature for one of them added and then left that up there expecting you to figure it out sooner or later.
I couldn't even be mad, but impressed. Despite the things I already knew about the game for the most part, that one detail was somehow completely erased from my memory since the last time I played the game [or maybe I never actually searched it or figured it out before].
With that done, I could now go to the final X-Hunter stages and face again the...oh.
I didn't explain the X-Hunters.
Three small fights now, or one big fight later
The X-Hunters are the antagonists of this game, followers of Sigma trying to bring back Zero after his demise in X1.
They have three body parts of his and after the first few Mavericks you defeat, they suddenly decide to let you know that you can fight the three of them in different stages to get the Zero parts back. But note that the only way you fight them is if you go into the stage they are and find the alternate path that leads to the door where they spawn.
If you go your way to find, fight and defeat all three of them, you should have Zero safe...but if you don't defeat all three of them [or just ignore them entirely], there will be a particular surprise awaiting for you.
So yeah, these three X-Hunters that you can fight or ignore in the Maverick stages do come back in the X-Hunter/final stages, with the first, Violen, being this guy with a mace that bounces around the screen...in both of the fights you find him. Although in the final fight, he can spawn blocks where the mace can bounce from.
Serges and Agile appear as normal opponents if you fight them in the Maverick stages, but are instead big mechs that you have to fight in specific ways in the final stages.
And while I can attest for Serges being an annoyance if you don't know the specific strats to cheese/speed up the fight [as you have to first destroy his four cannons and then jump between two moving platforms while he moves vertically firing a small beam - so you have to aim well at his face], there is a reason why I can't talk about Agile's second fight...
Going for the final dragon punch
Oh, apologies. I meant to say Going for the
SHOOOOORYUKEN
That's right baby, just like X1, X2 has yet another super secret Street Fighter move you can only find if you have every piece of upgrade you can get, and get to a very specific area with full health when you approach the capsule.
Only that this time...it isn't just casually sitting in a normal stage [even if you have to get there several times], but instead appears in the third stage of the X-Hunter levels...so basically you can only get it two stages away from completing the game.
But hey, at least here it isnt entirely cryptic...just more tight to get there.
The path starts with suspiciously out of reach stairs and...bat enemies nearby? I think we already know what to do, right?
But then you get to this area. Do that one party trick again and then get to the-
Oh.
You already know that a charged Speed Burner attack acts as an air dash, right? So you do have two air dashes [that and the leg upgrade's normal air dash] to get this done. But...you know. Be precise.
If you do that [and have full health], the last thing left is to...
! [Hidden Spoiler Text] ...Slide down the left wall, as you'll get into a fake wall that contains the capsule room. I don't know if you need to have full health for that to be a fake wall or if it only makes the capsule appear, but I'd use a Sub-Tank before getting to the room just in case.
...And that is where Light appears, tells you that you are too cool, and gives you a special surprise. So it isn't even a gift anymore or something that will "improve your situation" (thanks X3), but just "OH WOW YOU DID THAT SPIKE SECTION? TAKE THIS, KEN MASTERS".
With that, you get the signature move, the Brazil and Brazilian Ken special.
Now, remember that I mentioned that I couldn't talk in-depth about how the second Agile fight goes regarding patterns and how to beat it?
That's why.
One well timed SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORYUKEN and that thing died on the spot.
Real promising stuff, right?
The final fights
Well...don't get too cocky, because unlike the Hadoken in X1, this isn't an actual one touch instant kill move. But rather a move that does chunks of damage...that CAN instakill if it happens to go through the boss for enough frames [which is what happened with Agile, a huge ceiling boss].
If you look up Shoryuken runs, then you can see that a few of those bosses either need a precise position for you to one-shot with it, and if that isn't possible, then you just have to use it twice or thrice while avoiding losing health [yup, you still NEED full health to use it lol].
The way I found out though was when trying to cheese Flame Stag on the spot in the boss rush and instantly realize that it took out half of his health...but not ALL. And got damaged, so I ended up having to fight the old way.
But that was when I realized how balanced the bosses with the buster are in general, as it was fun to use it with most bosses thanks to the buster upgrade as well as a fully decked out healthbar and armor upgrade.
When that was done, it was Sigma time once and for all. And this final stage was...the first half of Magna Centipede's stage but with the intro music?
Yeah, I don't know. But at least that's all it takes to get to the final fight. Depending of how much you helped your old friend Zero. As you see: If you do NOT get all Zero parts before beating all eight Mavericks, you lost your chance to properly save Zero...and you'll have to FIGHT HIM, rebuilt but brainwashed by Sigma.
However, because the Zero parts are another requeriment for the Shoryuken to be obtainable [and I didn't want at the time to add yet ANOTHER fight to the final showdown], I got all of them, and what happens is tha Sigma will appear with a black Zero.
That gets instantly destroyed by the REAL Zero, rebuilt but still on the good side thanks to your efforts.
Whichever path ends up happening, it all ends with yet another fight with the old Sigma. Only that this time he sports crazy long claws from his fists.
Yes, everyone has already done Wolverine jokes about him.
He's actually pretty alright, and his second wireframe form is the first hint we ever get at him being less of a...constantly solid being but more so a virus that keeps resurfacing each time his body gets destroyed.
As I was starting to run out of steam by that point as I wasn't trial-and-error testing for weaknesses against both bosses, after I lost all my lives against him on my first attempt, I decided to do for the cheeky path in the second one. The one I had gained my rights to use.
SHOOOORYUKEN on the first phase for half a bar of damage, finish him off with the Buster as he's pretty reasonable and readable compared to X1 Sigma being a constant wall leaper that could be exploited and X3 Sigma being...I'll talk about X3 Sigma when I talk about that game.
Then for the second phase, I flexed the ultimate privileges: After getting everything the game could give me and fill up my sub-tanks through a very specific secret in Bubble Crab before going to that final fight again, I just...
Used a sub-tank after the first phase to Shoryuken the second phase.
Did half a bar of damage, but I got hit, so I couldn't use it anymore due to that...
SO I USED ANOTHER SUB-TANK TO SHORYUKEN HIS ASS TO THE DUMPSTER AND THAT'S MEGAMAN X2 DONE WITH EVERYTHING
I personally like X2's ending the most - putting aside the whole text description of the events, X pondering about the future and whether he'll have to keep fighting [he will], the ending music is an alternate, triumphant yet solemn take on the third X-Hunter stage theme that makes the ending carry a musical reminder of the road to your new victory...even if the fight will inevitably come back later.
Then the credits music is definitely the most upbeat theme that can be heard in the franchise: A final ride through the desert while you basically take in that you just played through an AWESOME game. An AWESOME sequel of an awesome game.
And while no doubt Sigma would return, here it was unlike X1 where you had that final stinger of Sigma announcing he was indeed not dead, but rather see your friend Zero dash in and shoot in the final Thank Your For Playing message from capcom while the title theme plays.
Conclusion...or is it?
A seal of quality [or a sign of someone really liking the game] is to come back to it not too long after having played it just to see what other things you can try out. And as I played this with RetroAchievements, there were a few challenges I could willingly go for thanks to said site tracking them.
The first thing I went for was to boot a fresh game and repeatedly try to complete the Intro Stage without taking damage, and it took me several attempts but eventually got it down. After that, I went for the most busted upgrade you can get...in the hardest way possible.
There's an achievement for getting the Buster Upgrade in Wheel Gator's stage without the Strike Chain, Speed Burner or any upgrades [including the leg upgrade, which gives you an air dash]. One way to do that is to use the party trick I described for that one Morph Moth's item...but there's another method that requires NO items.
Just...a lot of patience and precision to get the strat down [basically getting a wall jump a few pixels away from sticking to the wall, as the game allows you to do it, but you need good timing for that to work].
But I got it.
The other achievement I got was going for no-damage Bubble Crab...and flexed in full force that one silly exploit I described for him with only the buster.
Then there's yet another one I went for...but was late enough for me to be unable to retry it after failning midway through: Beating all eight mavericks in the boss rush without healing and only using the X-Buster- no weapons and no Shoryuken.
Funnily enough, my first attempt at this I forgot the challenge was buster-only, so I was using the weapons against each one...and got the Magna Centipede no damage achievement by accident as he's really easy to cheese with his weapon 😅
My actual buster-only attempt at the boss rush, only helped by using a password generator for a password that has all upgrades active but also leaves me in the boss rush stage [because I tried using my generated passwords from playing...but they only warp me back to the first X-Hunter stage], which means I had the extra leeway of a larger healthbar + armor + buster upgrade to endure the grueling gauntlet, did go okay-ish even though I lost half of my life after five or six bosses...until I choked with Wheel Gator being the waiting and biting boss he is.
So whenever I try going for it again, I'll probably have to try Gator first just to get the most annoying and potentially run-ending boss out, then figure out a proper order to tackle the bosses knowing that some are easier than others.
But until then...that's all for now in this post about MMX2.
I'll probably prepare soon something for X3 as I finished it the night before finishing this post, and there's some ups but also some weird downs compared to the first two, although it also makes for the first time I beat the game with all upgrades due to how it is a bit more messy in that regard.
Pondering whether to go and play X3 Zero Project, which I keep hearing is the best way to play it as a QOL romhack that fixes several things from the game, go give X4 a spin with Mega Man X after the last time I played it being a few years ago with Zero...or do a curveball and play Doom 2 due to its very recent 30th anniversary.
Or maybe I will finally stop ignoring Mega Man 2 after having wrestled so hard with MM1 and yet not diving into that while knowing that it HAS to be better than the first game even if I play it blind.
For now, take these writeups about X1 and X2 as pure encouragement for you to try playing these. Even when I did spend one or two extra hours with both games due to the exploration seeking for the things I needed without online guides [besides the Secret Techniques], it still was quite the experience to say that even in that condition, it was a blast to figure out things on the way out and use the prize I earned in both games.
Which is a contrast to my general frustration in Mega Man 1 where I resorted to looking up some stuff not too long after starting...and Mega Man X3 where aside from a few tough things to discover blind, it was more about certain things the game itself does in design where it feels rougher than this. But hey, that's a story for another day.

Este juego parece más equilibrado en cuanto al uso del X-Buster en niveles y jefes, sobre todo en los jefes.

El otro caso es el del Cangrejo Burbuja: Puede parecer intimidante al principio con un escudo de burbujas y pequeños cangrejos en la parte superior del agua... pero hay un exploit muy tonto que se puede hacer fácilmente con el buster.
! [Si saltas sobre él, extenderá sus cuernos y saltará para intentar embestirte verticalmente.
...y lo hará TODAS las veces, así que básicamente puedes saltar sobre él repetidamente para que siga haciendo lo mismo mientras le golpeas al caer cada vez.
Usar la debilidad contra el Cangrejo Burbuja resultaba menos fiable porque, al ser golpeado por él, en su lugar te embestía y usaba el ataque de los cuernos cada vez que saltabas por encima de él. Experimentando una búsqueda del tesoro a ciegas

Hay dos anécdotas que puedo contar sobre este proceso de búsqueda del tesoro a ciegas:
La primera fue con el Sub-Tanque Cangrejo Burbuja: En una zona en la que normalmente vas de izquierda a derecha en una GRAN sección submarina, estaba intentando encontrar dónde estaba el único objeto que podría haberme perdido, y después de varios minutos empecé a intentar saltar alto para ver si el techo sospechosamente alto de esa zona tenía alguna razón de ser.
Y en algún momento, mientras lo intentaba, vi aparecer un pequeño saliente. Ahí es donde empecé a pensar que tenía que haber algo ahí arriba, pero por alguna razón lo que estaba haciendo para intentar saltar alto ni siquiera era lo suficientemente alto como para mostrarme que en realidad había unas cuantas plataformas para llegar al sospechoso saliente que tenía el objeto culpable.
Así que empecé a probar varias armas cargadas para ver si alguna de ellas ayudaba de alguna manera [pensé que había elegido el arma correcta de la caja... pero resulta que estaba probando todas las armas]...
Y el arma del Cangrejo Burbuja fue la que hizo el truco.
Ese fue el gran momento de pillada que tuve allí, porque es una idea bastante específica la que tienes que probar, pero en cuanto te das cuenta de que el disparo cargado del Bubble Crab te da una altura de salto extra bajo el agua mientras está activo, ahora puedes llegar más fácilmente a esas plataformas altas en movimiento y atrapar al subtanque.
Pero el segundo momento es lo que yo consideraría un momento de pillada aún mayor... si no me hubiera tropezado con él por un extraño accidente de intentos de hacer que ocurriera algo en una zona a la que, de otro modo, no tenía ni idea de cómo llegar.
Se trataba de la mejora de salud de Morph Moth, el último objeto que necesitaba encontrar para tener todo a bordo, pues ya había conseguido el resto, pero cada vez que volvía a visitar el escenario, me encontraba con las manos vacías, ya que no había más pasadizos ocultos adicionales que encontrar.
El rastreador de objetos, que la mayoría de los jugadores tachan de inútil en las críticas... principalmente porque si ya sabes dónde están, entonces lo es [y no rastrea TODOS los secretos: el sub-tank de Bubble Crab que mencioné antes no lo atrapa], era en realidad la única pista que tenía de dónde estaba el objeto, ya que seguí usándolo durante toda la fase sin resultado...
...Hasta que intenté usarlo cerca del principio e hice esto.
Nunca lo había pensado porque no veía la forma de llegar allí, pero ahora el juego me decía rotundamente que ese era el lugar. Pero al principio me parecía muy raro, porque ninguna habilidad me permitía hacer un doble salto hasta allí, y un segundo salto aéreo horizontal no era útil cuando mi único salto no me llevaba hasta allí verticalmente.

A menudo había dejado de usar las armas en X2 porque no tenían el mismo poder multigolpe que el Storm Tornado o Fire Wave en X1, pero este fue el único caso en el que los desarrolladores añadieron una función tan astuta para una de ellas y la dejaron ahí esperando que la descubrieras tarde o temprano.

Tres pequeñas peleas ahora, o una gran pelea después.
Los X-Hunters son los antagonistas de este juego, seguidores de Sigma que intentan traer de vuelta a Zero tras su desaparición en X1.
Tienen tres partes de su cuerpo y después de los primeros Mavericks que derrotas, de repente deciden hacerte saber que puedes luchar contra los tres en diferentes fases para recuperar las partes de Zero. Pero ten en cuenta que la única forma de luchar contra ellos es si entras en el escenario en el que están y encuentras el camino alternativo que lleva a la puerta donde aparecen.
Si sigues tu camino para encontrarlos, luchar contra ellos y derrotarlos a los tres, deberías tener a Zero a salvo... pero si no los derrotas a los tres [o simplemente los ignoras por completo], te aguardará una particular sorpresa.
Así que sí, estos tres X-Hunters contra los que puedes luchar o ignorar en las fases Maverick vuelven en las fases X-Hunter/finales, siendo el primero, Violen, un tipo con una maza que rebota por la pantalla... en los dos combates en los que te lo encuentras. Aunque en el combate final puede hacer aparecer bloques desde los que rebota la maza.
Serges y Agile aparecen como oponentes normales si luchas contra ellos en las fases Maverick, pero en cambio son grandes mechs contra los que tienes que luchar de formas específicas en las fases finales.
Y aunque puedo dar fe de que Serges es una molestia si no conoces las estrategias específicas para acelerar el combate [ya que primero tienes que destruir sus cuatro cañones y luego saltar entre dos plataformas móviles mientras él se mueve verticalmente disparando un pequeño rayo, así que tienes que apuntarle bien a la cara], hay una razón por la que no puedo hablar del segundo combate de Agile...

Así es nena, al igual que X1, X2 tiene otro movimiento súper secreto de Street Fighter que sólo puedes encontrar si tienes todas las mejoras posibles y llegas a una zona muy específica con la salud al máximo cuando te acercas a la cápsula.
Solo que esta vez... no se encuentra casualmente en una fase normal [aunque tengas que llegar allí varias veces], sino que aparece en la tercera fase de los niveles X-Hunter... así que básicamente solo puedes conseguirlo a dos fases de completar el juego.
Pero bueno, al menos aquí no es absolutamente críptico... solo que es más difícil llegar.
El camino empieza con unas escaleras sospechosamente inalcanzables y... ¿enemigos murciélago cerca? Creo que ya sabemos qué hacer, ¿no?

Las ultimas batallas
Bueno... no te pongas demasiado confiado, porque a diferencia del Hadoken de X1, este no es un movimiento de matanza instantánea con un solo toque. Sino más bien un movimiento que hace mucho daño... y que PUEDE matar instantáneamente si atraviesa al jefe durante suficientes cuadros [como ocurrió con Agile, un enorme jefe de techo].
Si echas un vistazo a videos que utilizan el Shoryuken, verás que algunos de esos jefes necesitan una posición precisa para que puedas pegarles con un instakill, y si eso no es posible, entonces tienes que usarlo dos o tres veces evitando perder salud [sí, todavía NECESITAS tener toda la salud para usarlo].
La forma en que lo descubrí fue cuando intentaba golpear a Flame Stag en el momento en que el jefe se precipitaba y me di cuenta al instante de que le había quitado la mitad de su salud... pero no TODA. Y recibí daño, así que acabé teniendo que luchar a la antigua.
Pero fue entonces cuando me di cuenta de lo equilibrados que están los jefes con el buster en general, ya que era divertido usarlo con la mayoría de jefes gracias a la mejora del buster, así como a una barra de salud y una mejora de armadura totalmente equipadas.

Como ves: Si NO consigues todas las partes de Zero antes de derrotar a los ocho Mavericks, habrás perdido la oportunidad de salvar adecuadamente a Zero... y tendrás que LUCHAR CON ÉL, reconstruido pero con el cerebro lavado por Sigma.
Sin embargo, como las partes de Zero son otro requisito para poder obtener el Shoryuken [y no quise en su momento añadir OTRO combate más al enfrentamiento final], las conseguí todas, y lo que ocurre es que Sigma aparecerá con un Zero negro.
Que es instantáneamente destruido por el Zero de verdad, reconstruido pero aún en el lado bueno gracias a tus esfuerzos.
Sea cual sea el camino, todo acaba con otra pelea con el viejo Sigma. Sólo que esta vez luce unas garras locamente largas que salen de sus puños.
Sí, todo el mundo ya ha hecho chistes de Wolverine sobre él.
La verdad es que está bastante bien, y su segunda forma alámbrica es el primer indicio que tenemos de que no es tanto un ser constantemente sólido como un virus que resurge cada vez que su cuerpo se destruye.
Como ya estaba empezando a quedarme sin fuerzas porque no estaba probando por ensayo y error las debilidades contra ambos jefes, después de perder todas mis vidas contra él en mi primer intento, decidí optar por el camino descarado en el segundo. El que yo había ganado mis derechos a utilizar.
SHOOOORYUKEN en la primera fase para media barra de daño, acabar con él con el Buster ya que es bastante razonable y legible comparado con X1 Sigma siendo un constante saltador de muros que podía ser explotado y X3 Sigma siendo...hablaré de X3 Sigma cuando hable de ese juego..
Luego, en la segunda fase, hice gala de los máximos privilegios: Después de conseguir todo lo que el juego podía darme y llenar mis sub-tanques a través de un secreto muy específico en Bubble Crab antes de ir a ese combate final de nuevo, simplemente...
Usé un sub-tanque después de la primera fase para Shoryuken la segunda fase.
Hice media barra de daño, pero me golpearon, así que no pude usarlo más por eso...

Personalmente, el final de X2 es el que más me gusta: dejando a un lado toda la descripción textual de los acontecimientos, X reflexionando sobre el futuro y sobre si tendrá que seguir luchando [lo hará], la música del final es una versión alternativa, triunfante pero solemne, del tema de la tercera fase de X-Hunter, que hace que el final sea un recordatorio musical del camino hacia tu nueva victoria... aunque la lucha vuelva inevitablemente más tarde.
Luego, la música de los créditos es sin duda el tema más alegre que se puede escuchar en la franquicia: Un paseo final por el desierto mientras básicamente asimilas que acabas de jugar a un juego INCREÍBLE. Una secuela ASOMBROSA de un juego impresionante.
Y aunque no cabe duda de que Sigma volvería, aquí lo hacía a diferencia de X1, donde tenías ese aguijón final de Sigma anunciando que, efectivamente, no estaba muerto, sino que veías a tu amigo Zero entrar corriendo y disparar en el mensaje final de capcom de «Gracias por jugar» mientras sonaba el tema principal.
Conclusión... ¿o no?
Un sello de calidad [o una señal de que a alguien realmente le gusta el juego] es volver a él no mucho tiempo después de haberlo jugado sólo para ver qué otras cosas puedes probar. Y como lo jugué con RetroAchievements, había unos cuantos retos que podía superar de buena gana gracias a que dicho sitio los rastreaba.
Lo primero que hice fue arrancar una partida nueva e intentar repetidamente completar la fase de introducción sin recibir daños, y me costó varios intentos, pero al final lo conseguí. Después de eso, fui a por la mejora más reventada que se puede conseguir... de la forma más difícil posible.
Hay un logro por conseguir la Mejora Buster en la fase de Wheel Gator sin la Cadena de Golpes, el Quemador de Velocidad ni ninguna mejora [incluida la mejora de piernas, que te da un salto aéreo]. Una forma de hacerlo es usar el truco de fiesta que describí para ese objeto de Morph Moth... pero hay otro método que NO requiere objetos.
Sólo... mucha paciencia y precisión para conseguir el strat abajo [básicamente conseguir un salto de pared a pocos píxeles de pegarse a la pared, ya que el juego te permite hacerlo, pero se necesita una buena sincronización para que eso funcione].
Pero lo conseguí.
El otro logro que conseguí fue ir a por el Cangrejo Burbuja sin daño... y usé a fondo esa tontería que describí para él con sólo el buster.

Curiosamente, en mi primer intento olvidé que el desafío era sólo con el buster, así que usé las armas contra cada uno... y conseguí el logro de Magna Centipede sin daño por accidente, ya que es muy fácil de engañar con su arma 😅.
Mi intento real de buster sólo en el boss rush, sólo ayudado por el uso de un generador de contraseñas para una contraseña que tiene todas las mejoras activas, pero también me deja en la etapa boss rush [porque he intentado usar mis contraseñas generadas de jugar ... pero sólo me devuelven a la primera fase X-Hunter], lo que significa que tenía el margen de maniobra extra de una barra de salud más grande + armadura + mejora buster para soportar el agotador guantelete, me fue bien aunque perdí la mitad de mi vida después de cinco o seis jefes... hasta que me ahogué con Wheel Gator siendo el jefe que espera y muerde que es.
Así que cuando vuelva a intentarlo, probablemente tenga que probar primero con Gator para acabar con el jefe más molesto y que puede acabar con mi carrera, y luego buscar un orden adecuado para enfrentarme a los jefes sabiendo que algunos son más fáciles que otros.

Probablemente prepare pronto algo para X3 ya que lo terminé la noche antes de terminar este post, y hay algunas subidas pero también algunas bajadas raras en comparación con los dos primeros, aunque también es la primera vez que me paso el juego con todas las mejoras debido a que es un poco más lioso en ese aspecto.
Estoy pensando si jugar a X3 Zero Project, que me han dicho que es la mejor manera de jugarlo como un romhack QOL que arregla varias cosas del juego, darle una vuelta a X4 con Mega Man X después de que la última vez que lo jugué fue hace unos años con Zero... o hacer una curva y jugar a Doom 2 debido a su reciente 30 aniversario.
O puede que finalmente deje de ignorar Mega Man 2 después de haber luchado tanto con MM1 y no haberme sumergido en él sabiendo que tiene que ser mejor que el primer juego aunque lo juegue a ciegas.
Por ahora, tómate estos comentarios sobre X1 y X2 como un puro estímulo para que pruebes a jugarlos. Incluso cuando pasé una o dos horas extra con ambos juegos debido a la exploración buscando las cosas que necesitaba sin guías online [además de las Técnicas Secretas], fue toda una experiencia decir que incluso en esas condiciones, fue una pasada averiguar cosas a la salida y usar el premio que gané en ambos juegos.
Lo cual contrasta con mi frustración general en Mega Man 1, donde recurrí a buscar algunas cosas al poco de empezar... y Mega Man X3, donde aparte de unas cuantas cosas difíciles de descubrir a ciegas, fue más por ciertas cosas que el propio juego hace en cuanto a diseño donde se siente más áspero que esto. Pero bueno, esa es una historia para otro día.
