Yeah, Blue Storm is far more finicky to control than Wave Race 64, and the sentiment of being seen as inferior compared to 64 isn't uncommon due to that. I still had a good kick out of it though, and makes sense when I had also went the extra mile to go for all the achievements in WR64 lol
