I´m looking forward to play Metroid Prime 4, the problem is, I haven´t played Metroid Prime at all, I mean, yeah, I played Metroid Prime 2 when I was a little kid, but at that time, I didn´t have enough neurons to actually understand what was going on, so you see, I was kind of worried, I don´t think it´s a good idea to play the fourth game of the franchise without having played the other games so I was relieved when I saw Metroid Prime Remastered actually existing for real in the Nintendo Switch, trust me, I have no other way to play Metroid Prime, it´s just perfect to me.
Like the title says, I´m speechless, this remaster looks fucking amazing, like, I don´t even think this is just a remaster, it looks more like a remake, and damn, I really must say it again, it looks so fucking awesome. First things first, the game is actually running at 60fps wtf lmao I can´t believe it, and I´m not saying it like an insult to Nintendo, it´s just nice they are actually leaving the 30fps comfort zone, even if it´s just little by little, and of course, you know how it works, 1080p docked mode vs 720p handheld mode.
Not gonna lie, I´m no expert when talking about technical aspects but one thing I loved how it looks is the lighting, when you enter to a desert area and you see the lighting, it´s just amazing, I don´t know how to explain it, let´s just say I found the lighting to be really nice, there are other things like air particles or shadows that look really good, all of these aspects had their upgrade, not just a retouch, I mean, when a company sells a remaster is just a resolution upgrade and maybe 60fps but that´s not just the case in Metroid Prime Remastered, every graphical aspect received a big upgrade regarding the original game, I even thought the game looked that good because they changed motor engine or something but I did some investigation and seems like that´s not the case, they are using the same motor engine from the original games.
I really love how this game doesn´t treats like you are a 5 yeards old little child, you know, it´s just one of these games that put you in desolated planet and just leaves you be, it doesn´t give you annoying exposition, boring and long cutscenes, or indications on the map, like telling you where you need to go, you have to explore and finding out things by yourself and that feeling is great, I really felt like Samus you know, the game absorbed me in its world so good that I just played non-stop for a long time without even noticing it, the way Metroid Prime absorbs you with its atmosphere is really good.
Metroid Prime doesn´t try to be a survival horror game or something like that, even so, I´ve gotta mention that the atmosphere can be really inmersive, the way Metroid Prime makes you feel like it´s you alone agains´t the world, with no NPC or things like that, well, it can be considerably opressive and that is great, I mean, there is a good quantity of monsters who can block your way, some of them with their own way to defeat. As I said, Metroid Prime is no survival game but it´s great that the atmosphere makes you feel all alone in an opressive world.
Exploring the world in Metroid Prime is really fun, as I said before, true, the game doesn´t give you annoying markers so at first you´ll feel like you have no idea what you are doing with your life but once you get to it, the game feeling is amazing, a game like this can get pretty boring but thanks to its level design, it never ceased to impress me, sometimes I got kind of lost because I have just one neurone actually, but I never got frustrated because of it, cool thing the game actually rewards you with cool things for exploring and taking your time, once you got rewarded you feel like a God.
If we talk about mechanics, well, I´m talking from my perspective and I feel like Metroid Prime has aged really good, I mean, let´s take into consideration that the original game was released at 2003, it´s been almost 20 years since its release and the game feeling is great, I don´t feel like it´s tough to play or like it has aged like bad, trust me, it has aged like wine, this was the first 3D Metroid game I think and it´s nuts, controlling Samus through a first person view feels natural.
I love the fact that Metroid Prime doesn´t need long cutscenes or things that slowdown the gameplay in order to tell a story, you can take a look at your enviorment and figure out more or less what happened or taking some context, and if you want more info, there is always the useful scanner which will give you details about anything, the scanner is a pretty useful mechanic too and it doesn´t slowdown the gameplay.
So, I´m having a blast playing Metroid Prime, I think I´m begining to understand why there is a huge fanbase, I mean, I´m loving the experience so far, also, this remastered version is awesome, it´s a great remaster, I´ll say it again, while playing I get the feeling that this is more like a remake, cool thing that it´s just 40$, I know they always overprice ports and remasters but this time they did an oustanding job, the price tag is more than enough.
