Is Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag still worth playing in 2023?
Today I had the opportunity to play Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, a game I played years ago and it stuck in my mind in a very good way. In fact, if you look at the picture below, you can see that I played more than 33 hours on steam. Today I downloaded the game again and I just played it for a couple of hours. I think I can say that it was over 1 hour when I watched the cinematics.
So is this game still playable today, I decided to write to understand this question.
This game came out in 2013 and definitely doesn't deserve its current price. I can say that the game is worth 8-10 dollars at most. The current price is equivalent to 17 dollars. That's too much. There are much better games at this price today.
The first thing I want to analyze is the graphics.
Of course, it does not compare with the graphics of the games of 2023. It is important whether you feel yourself in a new world while playing. The answer is yes.
If we look according to its own year, that is, 10 years ago, the graphics of this game are really successful. Even when the cinematics intervened, they continued using in-game assets instead of making it like a movie. So the continuity continues. So you don't feel like you're watching something else while watching the cinematics. You continue to feel in the same game.
That's why, after a while, it's possible to play the game with the understanding that this world is a new world and it looks like this. I think the graphics are good enough, especially for a 10 year old game.
TLDR
Shortly after the game starts, we learn that we are playing a character named Edward Kenway. This character started his career as a sailor and continues as a pirate. After following him for a long time in the forest and understanding the simple gameplay of the game, he releases us into the open world. he actually teaches us a few more things before releasing us into the open world.
We learn things like how to fight, how to interact and jump with the environment, how to collect and peel the skin of animals. after learning the climbing mechanics, we fight this assassin.
Then, just as we are about to be released into the open world, we suddenly find ourselves in the real world in the present.
Animus
Before we start the game, we are given our animus table. Yes, as in other creed games, there are two stories here. Since I have played the game from the beginning to the end before, I know that the story that takes place in the real world, not in the virtual world, is not bad. Again you have to overcome a small and small obstacle. This is towards the end of the game. So you don't have to worry about that from the beginning. You can enjoy being a pirate and you can enjoy being an assassin.
However, when we look at the environment, we find ourselves in a developed center. After meeting a few NPCs, we learn what they do and then we go to our table. In the meantime, you can wander around to explore the surroundings. If you want, you can connect directly to the virtual world.
Music and NPC dialogs
Of course, you can't choose what to say because it's a cinematic, but the NPC conversations are nice. Whether it's the NPCs in the world or the NPCs in the cinematics, the voice acting is very good. This is to be expected from a game of this quality.
As for the music, if you ask me, if the music is too prominent in a game, it is not overly successful. They adjusted it well in this game. It doesn't stand out too much and doesn't drown out the game's own environmental sounds. Sometimes you may want to turn down the music and my suggestion would be to turn it down a click or two. Especially in the battle scenes it can be too loud and you can't hear the sword sounds or the reactions of the NPCs you are fighting. Maybe it has something to do with my sound system. But other than that, the music plays a big role for you to enter the world of the game. Successful.
Summary 7/10 By Today's Standards (but a little expensive)
As a result, if you have a moderately good computer and want to play both naval-ship combat and assassins creed war, this game is for you. Of course, as in a standard AC game, there are hiding mechanics and stealth killing mechanics. But the difference of this game from other games of its time is the ship mechanics. Yes, they used these ship mechanics in the new games by improving them a bit.
In summary, I recommend this game to you. I think it has a pleasant story that can be finished from start to finish.
Thank you very much for reading. I will try to share a game every week! Have a good game!
