... and now I'm finally in the right year for the Humble Bundle write ups! And this January 2025 drop was an awesome drop... if I hadn't already picked up a few of them on Steam sales! But for everyone else, it would have a great time to jump into the Humble Bundle goodness!
Leading the Humble Bundle drop is the city-builder Rogue-like, Against the Storm. When I first heard about this game... well, I was a bit dubious about the mixture of genres. But I was immediately onboard, just because it was published by Hooded Horse, which often has the tactics/sim games that I really enjoy. And so, I had picked up on a bundled Hooded Horse sale on Steam.... but I have had a huge amount of time on it now, and I have to say... it works! Plus, it also is pretty easy on the CPU/GPU too... and it works well on the trackpad as well, with no need to plug in an external mouse. So, a great game for travelling on a modestly powered laptop, or relatively easy on the battery of a gaming laptop! So, this will go to the key store... but I have to say, it is really awesome!
Next up, Jagged Alliance 3... and this is an amazing sequel to the amazing Jagged Alliance 2. Jagged Alliance was such a defining game for me... and of course, I had to pick up Jagged Alliance 3 as soon as it released. So, I've already got this one in my library as well! And I had started it... but it had dropped by the wayside, I will have to start it up again now that I'm reminded of it!
Blasphemous 2 is next on the list... and this one is a pass for me. Platformers generally are a hard pass for me, unless there is something really really amazing about it. But I don't think that Blasphemous 2 is going to be the one that does it... so, straight to the key store.
Beneath Oresa is next up... and I am pretty damn partial to deck building roguelikes. I have quite a few of them, and even though they all seem to start feeling the same with different artstyles... I still keep picking them up! Sigh... and I couldn't resist again, and I picked up Beneath Oresa as well! It currently lives on my Steam Deck, and I quite had a few good runs at it... but eventually lost interest. I guess that is the thing with roguelikes in the end... the grind and the feeling of being stuck in a hamster wheel starts to be a bit too much!
Fort Solis... a narrative game by the looks of it. And it does seem curiously interesting... and it does have a swag of indie awards as well as the Steam Deck verified tag as well. So, maybe this is worth playing... but I do see that there is a review that has about 3.5 hours game length, and that the game finishes before it really starts to get going. Ah well, I'll probably end up claiming this... that is the beauty of the Humble drops! Cheap and just a single game claimed makes it worthwhile!
Boxes: Lost Fragments is a puzzle box game... my kids do like these sorts of games, I'm a bit less keen on them. I like physical puzzle boxes, and I'm quite partial to locks and picking even if I'm not really that good at it... but digital simulations of puzzle boxes, not really my thing!
Dordogne, oh my gosh... wow, this looks so amazing. And it has a batch of indie awards as well. I would have picked this up on the visual art style alone!
And finishing the line up, Pegasus Expedition. I do love my 4X games... and this story based one has been on my wish list for quite some time. But the reviews have been so mixed that I just haven't had the courage to buy it just because of that... even on the countless Steam sales! So, I was pretty damn chuffed when it appeared in the bundle! Immediately claim!
