Do you play Magic The Gathering?
I remember the days when I used to play paper Magic with some of my friends. Back there, I built a very annoying Zo-zu, the Punisher control commander. It was all fun for me! But nowadays, I spend my time playing Magic Arena since I have no money to get into MTGO.
One of the interesting things the people at wizards started to do some years ago was extending the Magic formula to other universes. First, they did it with Dungeons and Dragons. It was a no brainer since Wizards prints the D&D stuff anyways. However, the latest set is another one of this Adventures in other realms. It was the turn of The Lord of the Rings. And we got some really sweet cards to play with some of our favorite characters from Tolkien's works.
I've been trying to get a 7-0 in draft and I thought I wouldn't be able. My drafting skills were slowly building up since I had not played magic for quite some time. So one day I thought it would be fun to make a deck based on Halflings. And wouldn't you know it, it worked. Second breakfast too gud!
I splashed some black to use some powerful cards that served to keep my opponents creatures at bay. What I can tell you about this deck is that Meriadoc and Peregrin were the stars of the show giving me extra food tokens whenever a Halfling attacked and creating an extra one. Once I had 3, I could use them to draw a card thanks to Peregrin's second ability. A true display of synergy. The saying goes that if your draft deck plays like a constructed deck, you are in for some wins.
I even had one of the versions of Frodo to get some ring-tempting action a very cool mechanic of the set that gives you rewards by each stack of the ability. I'll be showing some draft and gameplay footage in the future before the set rotates from the events. I came with this prelude since all the other recordings sucked! 🤣
You can see the last results here. Not a single loss. There were some close calls during the games, but it turns out that when you stack a lot of food, you're very hard to kill. It's been a lot of fun to play Magic again and do it in such an amazing setting.
If you're interested, Magic Arena is free to play. It's available in both Steam and Epic Games. You can also download it from it's own webpage. However, to play drafts you'll need to grind for coins or invest a little money in it for gems. I've never put any money in the game, but that means I get to play drafts according to my skill level. Sometimes, I can play multiple in one day. But it is an interesting challenge, especially when you go in like a wrecking ball beating people while eating your second breakfast.
