My Web Slinging Adventure in Spider Man Remastered

There are games you play and forget, and then there are games that make you want to swing through virtual cities just because it’s fun. Spider Man Remastered on the PS5 is absolutely the latter. When I picked up this game, I expected a few hours of decent action and maybe a sprinkle of nostalgia. What I didn’t expect was to fall in love with a city, it’s people, and a red and blue suited hero all over again.

Insomniac Games truly outdid themselves with this one, and I’m excited to take you through my personal experience with the game from the jaw dropping visuals to the emotional highs (And Screwball Lows), here’s what made this game one of the best superhero experiences I’ve ever had.

First Impressions: A Love Letter to Spider Man Fans

The moment I booted up the game, I could sense the care and passion poured into every pixel. From the opening cinematic to the first time I leaped off a rooftop, I was hooked. It felt like Insomniac wasn’t just making a game they were crafting a tribute to everything Spider Man stands for.

Even if you’re not a hardcore Marvel fan, the way the game balances fun, emotion, and storytelling makes it a universally enjoyable experience. And if you are a fan? Prepare to get emotional the moment you unlock a certain classic suit or swing past a familiar landmark.

Swinging Through the Skies: The Joy of Movement

Let’s talk about the real star of the show, the swinging mechanic. I’ve never played a game where just moving around is this much fun. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve spent hours doing absolutely nothing but swinging through New York’s skyline. The controls are buttery smooth, responsive, and incredibly satisfying.

There’s a rhythm to it. You time your swings just right, zip through tight alleys, wall run on towering buildings, and pull off tricks mid air, it’s like a dance with gravity. You can feel the momentum and weight of Spider Man’s movements, and the animations adapt dynamically, which makes it feel so real.

Honestly, if someone asked me what i’d do to unwind after a long day, “swing through virtual Manhattan” would be a top answer.

Combat and Skills: Easy to Learn, Fun to Master

The combat system in Spider Man Remastered is where the game goes from fun to really fun. It’s not just button mashing, you’ve got to be smart. Dodging, countering, using your gadgets, and combining combos becomes second nature after a while, and the more you master the mechanics, the more you feel like Spider Man himself.

I played on the Amazing mode which i’m assuming is the hard mode ? and it never felt unfair. Challenging ? Yes. But never frustrating. Enemies become tougher and more tactical as you progress, and that’s where the skill tree really shines. You unlock a range of abilities that significantly alter how you fight some let you pull weapons from enemies, others let you launch them into the air for flashy finishers. These upgrades make combat feel fresh even towards the final missions.

A favourite move ? The classic web yank followed by a stylish air kick into the next guy’s face. It never gets old 😆

Storytelling That Hits You in the Feels

Let’s be real now this isn’t just an action game. The story is top tier, Period.

You start off as an experienced Peter Parker, juggling life as a superhero and a regular guy. What makes it great is how the game doesn’t treat Peter like a one dimensional hero. He’s vulnerable, overworked, and constantly making difficult choices. You feel every victory and every loss with him.

The supporting characters are equally strong. Whether it’s Aunt May’s kindness, MJ’s courage, or the emotional weight of Peter’s bond with Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus), everyone is fleshed out and feels real. By the time the story reaches its climax, I genuinely teared up. That ending ? Gut wrenching and perfect.

The City That Never Sleeps… Literally !

Here’s a bold claim: New York City in this game is its own character 🤌🏼

As you swing through the streets, you’ll hear civilians cheering you on, booing you if you’ve messed up, asking for selfies, or running away from chaos. The city responds to your actions. That level of immersion makes the world feel alive.

There were moments where I’d just stop and watch the city. A sunset over the Hudson, the chatter of people in Central Park, a jazz tune playing from a street performer. These little details elevate the game from being “a superhero simulator” to “a living world.”

Also, shoutout to J. Jonah Jameson’s radio show. His rants against Spider Man kept me laughing every time they popped up during a mission 😂

Suits Galore: A Fan’s Dream Closet

Okay, let’s talk suits. Because damn, this game spoils you with them.

There are dozens to unlock, and each one is crafted with insane attention to detail. You’ve got suits inspired by comic books, the MCU, animated shows, and even original designs. Some will make long time fans emotional, I’m looking at you, Raimi suit.

Not only do they look amazing, but some of them also come with unique suit powers. Whether it’s turning temporarily invincible, generating holograms, or delivering EMP blasts, these powers add extra flavor to your playstyle.

I honestly spent more time than I care to admit switching suits every hour, just to experiment with what would work best for me.

Side Missions, Crimes, and Collectibles: Worth the Detour

One thing I appreciated was how even the side content felt meaningful. Whether it was tracking down Black Cat’s clues, solving Harry Osborn’s science stations, or chasing pigeons (Yes, Pigeons 😂), it never felt like busy work. These mini stories added to the lore and gave me more reasons to explore the city.

Random crimes popping up while swinging also kept things fresh. I’d be en route to a main mission and suddenly stop mid air to break up a car chase. It’s exactly what you’d imagine Spider Man doing.

And the backpacks ? Those little collectibles gave beautiful insights into Peter’s life old gadgets, notes, even a recipe for Aunt May’s wheat cakes. They added so much personality.

DLCs: The City That Keeps on Giving

The three part DLC series (The Heist, Turf Wars, and Silver Lining) continue the story and are 100% worth it.

They’re not just tacked on extras. The character arcs especially Black Cat and Yuri Watanabe are taken in unexpected, emotional directions. Each episode has its own flavor and brings new suits, missions, and challenges to the table.

The difficulty is slightly higher than the base game, but the story makes it worth every retry.

That said, I need to get this off my chest: Screwball. She’s an influencer villain who makes you do timed social media challenges. I get what they were going for, but she was just too much 😑. I found myself groaning every time her voice came through the speakers. Not a deal breaker, but definitely my least favourite part of the game.

Final Thoughts: A Game That Swings High and Lands Strong

Spider Man Remastered on PS5 isn’t just a great superhero game it’s one of the best games I’ve played in recent memory.

The story is powerful, the gameplay is a blast, and the city feels more alive than most open worlds I’ve seen. It’s clear that Insomniac Games poured their heart into every aspect of this game. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just someone looking for a great action adventure title, you’ll find something to love here.

Even after finishing the main story and all the DLCs, I still fire up the game just to swing through Manhattan and finish up some left over achievements. That says it all, doesn’t it ?
