I just want a colorful space adventure with an open world and a good story. Is that too much to ask?
This seems to be one of the most difficult posts I have had to write in Hive because it is a topic that touches so many passions for someone like me who loves video games and since childhood plays many titles every day, and that is where I emphasize how difficult it is to choose the perfect game, I like all kinds of genres, from the simplest simulators like The Sims, experimental games that propose to transport the experience to the player using other resources, to games as philosophical and insanely complicated as The Witness. There is a lot to choose from and that makes it a difficult task for me to choose between all the experiences or put them all together to make my perfect game.
But let's give it a shot, let's start with a simple question:
How is a videogame composed?
We could start by saying that the game mechanics and everything that defines the playability of a game and that is one of the initial stages along with the artistic design and it is here where I can establish my gameplay tastes. Since my childhood I've had an affinity for platform titles like Sonic or Mario so let's add that to the list, but I also like adventure games in open worlds as Zelda does in its latest installments... I also recently started to like Walking Simulator games that were sold as an experimental game and as works that transcended the medium, I think this is getting complicated so let's do something quick, let's talk in detail on each of the elements. what would my perfect game be like?

Recently we have seen this trend of the video game as an author's work, something like an Oscar nomination and are these video games that aspire to tread strong in the AAA field and attract another type of audience, either by its gameplay, its themes or its script, it must tell a story in a retroactive and neat way, have human characters that have credible development arcs. I'm also going to add a personal touch and say that I love games that adventure us in space or across planets in the style of Star Wars or Star Citizen so let's put as a first rule that the video game must have a space theme. So let's start there:
My game must be an adventure with an excellent script and a story that resonates either by its complexity or sensations, it must deal with human themes and the more it relies on charismatic characters with defined personalities the better. I don't want a game about too big conflicts, I want small stories that can develop our main character and get us into some topic, maybe in a philosophical way. It must also have a complete worldbuilding full of history both in its main characters and in the locations we find.
Since I have recently had very good experiences with third-person games we will say that the camera will be like this, we will see our character from behind also to show off the cinematic scenes of the game because I want it to have those areas of the Uncharted games that combine the cinematic experience with the gameplay in a sublime way, we already have a worthy story, some charismatic characters and we have just added the player's camera.
Let's talk about specific mechanics, what will the game be based on? I really like the idea of a third person shooter in the style of Gears Of War but I want something more dynamic in the style of games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or the aforementioned Uncharted, there are other games like The Last Of Us that meet many of the characteristics that I love when it comes to choosing my perfect game. Let's choose a third-person shooter with an open world, or rather, a galaxy open to us to explore at our leisure.
Let's talk about graphics, although I like the hyperrealism that is a trend in the industry today, I prefer designs that sacrifice realism to have illustrations with more personality and are much more iconic, I have a weakness for Guardians of the Galaxy (yes, the movie) and how it uses colors to give it that touch that makes it stand out, I want just that in a game, it should not necessarily be realism, but it should cause an immediate impact, to the point that just seeing the color palette I can recognize the work. For now we are going to choose whether it can be realistic or not, but with designs that make the game an icon.

Let's get into the sound, the soundtrack or OST, is one of the most subtle mechanics that a video game has to resonate in the head of the players so as the theme is space and is a shooter I can think of some good examples that I can use for this section, John Williams with his Star Wars masterpiece that defines (literally) the Space-Opera genre is my favorite, a soundtrack that is epic, is mostly composed of orchestras and replicates the sense of adventure and story that adventures like Mass Effect or Halo have.
I know there are many games that meet these characteristics and I have been naming them as examples but what I want is a game that does not have a main plot focused on the war between species or for the domination of the universe, I want reduced but well written stories in space, that is something very different from what is on the market, maybe if tomorrow comes out a Star Wars where it is not focused or in the time of the empire or the republic and we go a little deeper into other types of stories is that I can say that my perfect game has already been made.
Another thing I want to add is spaceships and flight mechanics, because no game in space is complete without spaceships and that's a fact, I really like the flight mechanics of games like No Man's Sky (next review probably) that propose that there are no loading screens between space and planets but we can see first hand how we get out of the planets atmosphere into space, as for the handling of the ship I would like it to be as technical as Rogue Squadron that gives us full control of all functions of the ship so we can experiment with it plus the feeling of flight in this game is sensational (in the special using VR), besides having our ship we could also customize it with different gadgets and combine various weapons and ship structures, the idea here is that each ship can be unique to the user.

Let's talk about multiplayer, although I am much more attached to solo games I think there is a spectacular online mode hidden behind this game, after all it is located in space with thousands of planets, it would be logical that there were more players in the galaxy so my perfect game would have the ability to run shared missions or meet other players at any time, although it would not be a mandatory option because I think that the solo experience already makes the game a complete work, let's say that the multiplayer is a complementary, we can do battles in our spaceships and join in alliances, it would be a mode in which the plot would take a back seat but it would be very fun to play.
I would also like to integrate the function of an information collector, since on each planet we visit we will have a small ecosystem, we can also investigate the area and collect samples of animals, flora and even the ruins of other civilizations that we find, this as a collectible would also be a complementary function, something to do between each mission and with what we can go knowing secrets or extra features on each planet with what we can have advantages in certain scenarios.

So in summary, my perfect video game is a Cowboy Bebop game lol , ok seriously speaking I have spent hours thinking about what I really want to see in a game, I am a hardcore fan of the whole Star Wars world and I would kill for a studio like CD Proyekt Red to make a Star Wars game with all the specifications I have given in this post, it's a feat to achieve even for the biggest studios but I think with time we will start to see many of my ideas in development for next titles, maybe even Star Citizen if it is finished and made playable will become everything I always dreamed of in a videogame, I don't think I have anything else to add to this post but if I think of something I'll leave it in comments as a personal note.
Thanks so much for visiting my post and thanks to @pusen and @hivegc for doing this initiative, it's been an intense morning and I'm writing these lines at 2am in the morning, I'm going to be a while longer in Hive before going to bed so if you have comments about how your perfect game would be I'd love to read them! Thanks for stopping by!
