We continue the series of "games I would have liked to play" with a game that I clearly remember playing, yes, back in the 2000s I was still a little kid with the first Playstation that did not understand the difference in quality graphics in video games, I just enjoyed them, from the cashgrabs that the studios released to promote movies to the instant classics like the one I'm getting excited to try today.
I have good memories of the first Crash Bandicoot, it was colorful, easy to understand and easy to play, perfect for a little me who just wanted to play something at the end of the day, I do not remember too much of its levels and I think I was not even close to finish it so today I will close all the curtains in my house to experience with an emulator a little of this magic of the 90s, I have already made a post playing ROMs of the Nintendo 64 (and several posts of these are coming) but this time I grabbed the nostalgia with this game.
Although first I had to configure the emulator to simulate as best as possible on my keyboard an original Playstation controller, luckily this is one of the simple games where you have few controls and only really need the jump and attack, so it was relatively easy.
It' s funny when you turn around and see what this game achieved in its time, Sony's Playstation was just getting a foothold in the industry, with a technology that they knew was superior and practices to attract the creators of video games that could not be matched, the CD and 3D graphics were the most important points of the console, but Sony also to put top studios to create a mascot, the Mario or Sonic Playstation, hence came this character.
I had completely forgotten what it felt like to play one of these classic titles, which are not really designed to be played with a keyboard but with some joystick control, because I had more problems than I thought just positioning crash in some jump, the keys are not precise enough and that is seen from the first level, even so I liked it, the first level is something more to get used to the controls of crash so I passed it relatively easy.
But the game has some surprises for me, some extra levels if you grab three items that are distributed by the level and in which they put you in environments much more similar to the standard 2D levels but always with a characteristic touch of this new wave of games in three dimensions, today we take it for granted but for the time this was the next big thing that was happening in the video game.
I didn't need an emulator to play this game, which surprised me a bit, it was just an .exe that ran directly on Windows, it runs pretty smooth and although I had a problem with the controls I was able to fix it.
My next step is to keep testing PS1 games, I haven't played too many, not that I remember, anyway I also don't forget to keep testing the Nintendo 64 emulator, I have some roms downloaded to test, something I've been noticing with these roms is that there are several geographic versions of each game, some are easy to run without any problem while others may have some bugs.
Anyway I will keep trying with some classics that I have there downloaded, also be aware of the games that are being given away on various platforms, it is likely that we have a free game for each day of December, I have already seen it from Epic Games but although they are still rumors I am certain that I will have something more than emulators to play at the end of the year.
